* I am leaving poorbuthappy

and i'd firstly like to say that I don't expect anyone to care, nor do i particularly care to read any snide comments posted to me in this respect. I am only writing this because the moderators should take note.

The reason is that this site is no longer enjoyable for me. There are a few rude and obnoxious people on here that just detract from the site. My opinions are 99% garbage? fine. i won't waste my time here. Stick to your cyberworld Utopiacowboy, i hope you drive away enough people so that you get banned from this site that you enjoy so much.

Honestly, I LOVE Colombia, the people, the culture, perhaps it's the reason I would post so much here recently. It has a lot to add, but overall, i just can't be arsed anymore, nor do I find this site particularly Colombian. Too much bollocks. Sure i've thrown around a few insults, but only when I have found someone to be particularly offensive. It can be entertaining at times, but enough's enough.

Gracias a la gente que me cae bien :)

You seem like a nice fellow, manINred. But rude and obnoxious people are everywhere. Best to read the threads that interest you, such as Colombian culture, and ignore the folks who think they know everything. Not worth getting upset over anything here -- and if you do get upset, I agree, what's the point?

People often criticize PBH and CB as being "not Colombian enough". I don't understand this criticism, which I presume could be applied to any English discussion of Colombia or to any site where many of the members are not Colombian, or don't currently live there. But in Colombia broad public discussion of problems is not always possible, and while Colombia has a great many positives it clearly has problems worthy of discussion, and resolution. I enjoy hearing positive things about Colombia, but the real Colombia includes surrealism and conflict too. I don't mind the insults on this board, nor the fact that the quality of discussion is often juvenile. It often is in real life too. Even in Colombia. Go in peace, don't worry about things you cannot change, and don't get upset by the idle musings of strangers.

juancho, when have I ever censured (not promising, however, that I won't) Elmo's posts?

I don't think he provides much "insight" to everyday Colombian life, however. His sphere of interest is way too narrow for that and he's geographically way too limited. Barranquilla barrios bajos yes, but that's not very helpful for a young woman from Cincinnati who wants to study Spanish in Bogotá or a guy from Holland with relation problems with a caleña. ("What Cali? where the fok is Cali? That's just jungle out there and cachacolandia".

Anyway, I believe that Mr. Defoque is here, like so many others, just to kill his boredom with too much time in his hands sitting in a boring executive office in Manhattan. He's here to entertain, be entertained, to socialize and kill time, not offer any useful, vital information to a tourist or a traveller going to Colombia.

Cheers,
Desi

I note that sometimes the moderators will allow hours of silly childish posts to exist then immediately delete a post that shouldnt be deleted. It can be confusing sometimes.
I have accepted the fact that you have to tolorate the childishness and hope to occasionally read some quality and informative posts, you have to sort of read between the posts to get the good info.
Good luck in your travels, hope you will return someday to PHB.

Wise words, I do enjoy PBH and learn a lot. What I don´t enjoy so much is people crying all over the place, most of the time without reason. Here at PBH when people get at each other they do it one by one, but elsewhere it is a gang against you. (i.e. established members)

And about offensive words and threats, well who likes them? 99% of the time I don´t pay attention to them even when done by people that know my whereabouts, much less from Internet Rambos.

And in respect with new software I would not get too high of expectations, I know there would be people crying again, not matter what software is used. As a matter of fact, Even sites with supposed better software had downtimes (quite often) problems login in etc..
I had learned that if you want to be patted in the back and been kissed all over, PBH might not be the place for you, if you want everyone to agree with you, then again here is not the place for you, and that is one of the beauties of PBH.

I do believe Elmo has good interventions and do contribute here. I know there are many people lurking (just reading) that could contribute to PBH but rather stay away. Elmo shares and that is important. Lurkers don´t share.

Juancho, I have to agree.... with Desi. While Elmo's writing is incredibly entertaining, his insight into Colombia in general is almost non-existent, that is unless you are discussing (as Don Imus would call them) nappy headed Hos in south Barranquilla. Not that I have a problem with that subject either. People need to chill, this is the internet so you can't take it too seriously like Kat1 said. If you (not you in particular ManLred) are so thin skinned that you get so easily offended and rattled by what some annonymous jerk says on the internet, it makes me wonder how you deal with contratemps in real life.

Lostgringo says on Apr 11, 2007, 06:50:

Immune Without going into details there are a few posters here who are immune to having their posts deleted. They are immune to having moderators step in and tell them they are personally attacking others. They have free reign here. PBHR's know how they are. I can't wait until new software comes here where we can put the ignore button on these creeps. manINred is right when he describes some of the people here as being rude and obnoxious. I wonder if they conduct themselves that way when they are in Colombia. That begs the question, "how long would they survive in Colombia if they expressed themselves in the same manner?" I think most Colombians are positive thinking in nature and not like some here who only think in negative terms. I mean how boring is it to hear someone talking negative all the time?

It has been my experience so far that Colombians are for the most part very polite and friendly. I don't think too many of them are miserable people like some here on PBH. It seems like some posters here are, well, very childish on top of being rude and obnoxious. Yes I know you need a thick skin to really enjoy this sight. But wouldn't it be a better place to visit if people were actually thoughtful here and respected each other? Wouldn't it be better if people could have a good discussion without being crude and obnoxious. I can only wonder how enjoyable these people would be to be around and how many friends they must have. Don't think for one minute that there are no boards where this kind of candor does not exist. Some of the boards on Thailand are designed just this way. They have a huge following and are really enjoyable to read.

It will never happen here and those who think otherwise have their heads buried in the ground. Some of the most avid posters here are obnoxious, rude, thoughtless and enjoy attacking others. Because they post so much they are immune from criticism of the moderators. We all know who these individuals are. It has been my experience in life that many of these people are cowards in real life. If they were really confronted with a real threat in person they would run away with their tails between there legs. They are insignificant people who lack social skills needed in the real world and hide behind their computers making ridiculous comments on things they know little or nothing about.

They can brag and show their bravado all they want here, but I know them for what they are. It is kind of funny when I think about it. What manINred needs to do is take the advice given to me by Gringo in Bogota/Don Diego/Don Gringo/????. He once noted that sometimes he makes a post and never goes back to that thread. Like now. I will post and not go back to this thread.

PBH is a great source of information on Colombia. There is much more good here than bad. There are posters like MiamiMike that is always trying to help others. Personally think that if a few posters here were banned the board would be a much better place to visit. But then I think hey, shit happens.

Have we ever deleted a good, informative post in any thread that hasn't been started by a troll who got his account deleted? Have we ever deleted any post that did not have ad hominem attacks, foul language, inquiries about where to find prostitutes, aggressive-passive pharising etc.; a post chockfull of information about weights and measures, money exchange, local customs, tourist destinations? Have I ever (even if I found them extremely annoying or distasteful)delete any of the pictures of low-life prostitutes and skanks published by several members?

Ninty-percent of my posts had some very interesting and informational material. Either it was because G5 used some leverage on someone or a Bush Lover got so offended at my irreverance that they thought that by zapping my entire existence it might improve the economy or our standing in the world. Neither which has happened or will happen, at least for the next couple of years or so.

Yes, strobers, I recall it now and yet neither tinto nor I had anything to do with it, so it was not a problem with the moderation but rather with the site owner. I was right in the middle of it, as usual, trying to find out what happened. You had your account deleted by Peter which made all your post disappear too. I consider it most unfortunate and I was the one who took it with Peter, immediately. The problem was some kind of misunderstanding and the posts could not be retrieved afterwards. It was a mistake and we regret it.

No, I don't consider you a troll and never did. I have already apologied to you even if it was not me who made the mistake.

Chucha in all flavors... Peruvian also say, "la chucha de su madre"
In Colombia there are different meanings for chucha and here are some more from Colombia and from other countries.

BxUnika says on Apr 11, 2007, 22:02:

To Those Who Are Leaving I don't like to see people go, but I can understand why you're leaving. I started reading PBH when it first started. It was quite small, the information was easily accessible, and to the point, and you did not have to sift through threads and threads of sometimes unrelated posts.

Some say put up or shut up. Why don't I participate as much on the ste as I once did? It is getting very old hat. Out of the posters, maybe 20% are actually from Colombia, most live abroad, and teh rest are pretty much non-Colombians and the occasional Colombian-American(-Canadian, -Brit, etc.) who are pretty far removed from the Colombian experience. Poor but happy? More like Upwardly-Mobile and Bitter or Living-like-they're rich and clueless. It seems like an awful lot of the people here are not living in reality. The fact that most of us have internet in our homes to begin with is quite telling. Most Colombians are not schmoosing around Andino and Atlantis Plaza or El Poblado all day nor are most spending countless waking hours in cyberspace arguing trivial matters on a messageboard with strangers.

In the "rules" (I use quotations because the rules here are clearly a f'king joke) here it states that personal insults and attacks, talking about off-topic subjects (i.e., which women are easiest to bed, sexiest, where to score the best hookers, etc.), and the like were prohibited. Why is it, then, that about 75% of the posts here are along the lines of just that? You have Morphus and his 13 year old girlfriends, Poco and his cereal box-shaped, cellulite-ridden behinds, and Don Gringo and his daily horror stories about Bogota and how he and his relatives stay locked up in their houses after 6 PM for fear of their lives, and countless other sad stories.

My question: Where are the moderators here? What are they doing? Does it make sense to erase a post taht was accidentally placed in the wrong category yet not all the posts regarding prepagos, sex, hookers, drugs, insults towards woman (esp. American ones), cliche sob stories, and insult-fests? I don't get it, I really don't. Who is this board geared towards? 35-60 year old gringo losers who don't have the looks, social skills, or confidence to meet a woman in their own turf? People who have no social lives and rely on a fantasy cyberspace board as their sole form of socializing? Bitter, angry American men who were burned by their 19 year old prepago girlfriends? Sexual and drug tourists?

I am am wrong, somebody please set me straight, but it seems this forum has been all but lost to the lowest common denominator. Those who have great ideas, info, and insight such as Colombiche, my pal Webmanco, often Desi, Kat and the like, please keep up the good work and fresh blood.

The OP, I ManlRed, you at least added some decent content to this forum. We used to have a guy GrigoDeluisa or RingoD - I forget his name, but he had a reposnse in every post and never said anything and never really knew anything. I thought that this guy would be here forever.

So it seems we lose guys who actually contribute and we lose guys who flood the board with crap. Knowing how to seperate the two saves a lot of time. Also knowing how to seperate the bashers or having a thicker skin helps a great deal. I have not read this thread at all but someone probably already said this.

Lastly there's little information that can be gained from this site as 90% of the active posters live outside of Colombia or have only been there once or twice to pick up a wife.

I just counted 8 posters who actually a clue and I'm not one of them!

RE: BxUnica I used to be an active poster here about a year or so ago, but I got bored of reading the same material time after time (threads are regurgitations of one another) and 95% of the topics here don't fall within my range of interests anymore.

I totally lack the threestoogeish ability to laugh at the same jokes over and over again or to enjoy being repeatedly told off by Moe from Titiptawawa or threatened by Mr Siriri who is resentful at my lack of "colombianidad" (that term is such an abstract, I don't know how anybody could ever think they have it pegged).

Most of the colombians that seem to survive on this site are the overly patriotic ones that have made it their mission in life to blindly worhip everything colombian (even if it is a stale, backward, mysoginist, homophobic religion that had us in the dark ages for 5 centuries) to counter the ethnocentric Colombia bashing (which is also quite rampant). Every action causes an equally intense reaction but I am not a believer in countering stupidity with stupidity (Forget de La Hoya and Mayweather, we have Mr. amarilloazulyrojocoloradotengoesteojo vs Wide eyed pasty who thinks the third world is his playground). I am also not overly patriotic - I'd rather focus on the individual than on the herd and I can do a heck of a lot more for my country in real life than I can by hurling virtual insults at Larry and Curly.

I enjoyed exchanging opinions with posters like sr Tertius, Rubito, Strobers, Toneloc, Cerealkiller, Mario, BxUnica, Qubo and many more who are very scarce these days anyway.

Mind you, the site does contain some valuable info, but you need a percolator to retain what is useful and let the rest go. As Bxunica said, the site has regressed into one that caters mostly to the lowest common denominator. That is fine for some people, I suppose, to each his own, bacano el parche.

the list goes on ad nauseum.....yes, DG, you have an opinion based on what you have experienced there. But, as i know this will be an affront to your overinflated ego, leave the conclusions to be drawn from all that is posted here to the reader. I dont think anyone here needs to have our minds made up for us.

and i dont need to attack your credibility all that much, as you seem to do more damage to it on a daily basis than anyone else could hope to do.....i guess that is the consequences of a split personality?

wow, and now you claim to be a psychologist/psychiatrist/sexologist all wrapped up in one neat tiny body or screen name? Pathetic, delusional, sad. But, normally people who talk like that reveal their own inner deficiencies....its a Fredian thangggggggg.....

Dont let your frustrations in life make you forget that one day YOU will be that 80lb EVIL abuela or abuelo......like i said in that post...what goes around comes around....

and it seems that i am not the only one who challenges your conclusions with regards to security in Colombia...if you care to read BxUnika accurate assessment of PBH.....i would have to add to her post, that for some of the "Good Ol Boys Club" members here, it is obvious that some are so intimidated by female posters here, as there is such a blatant effort on some select individuals to run any female posters off of PBH....and they have been quite successful here at running new female poster off by attacking everything they post, and by usually resorting to crude sexual innuendos and comments...funny, i never noticed that this site was named "PoorButHappyMalesOnly.com".....

Who talks about themselves in the 3rd person? Your opinions are just that, opinions. However, you like to present simple conversations with some people in your little world as fact, as something more credible than gossip. You seem to hang your hat (support your claims) on the fact that you live in one city, Bogota, for what, 4 years? Well, i put as much credibility and credence in your posts as i would an arrival to say, Los Angeles, who has completed 4 years in the US. Would living in LA make a foreigner an expert in all thing LA or the US? Would his conversations with other Los Angelesinos give his opinion and experiences more value and credibilty7? Hardly, and probably more like Not Even. SO to hang you hat on your living in Bogota hardly qualifies you as an expert or someone who has invaluable information to share with the rest of the world. Just trying to keep your postings in perspective. I know that kind of hurts your inner sensitivities, but so be it. And if i wanted to know what real colombians think, why would i rely on information provided by a non-Colombian? should not i seek out a Colombian to learn about things Colombian? Wow, that is a no brainer, right?

Thank you for making my point for me. btw, its cells not sells at least i am not a another gringo who wants so much to be latino.....and the term Don is earned, not simply given to oneself.....but, after 4 years in Colombia, you knew that right?

as for in person vs screen name personalities....WYSIWYG..if you dont know what that means, I am the same in person as on the internet...nothing to hide...and no reason to run..

internet tough guy? tells me that you used to get your lunch money forcibly taken from you as a child in school...probably by the girls....jajajaja...

Change of site name So all we've got left here on PBH is a bunch of dudes making bawdy jokes about chasing Colombian tail?

Maybe it's time for a change of site name.

I propose "Pasty, Bald and Horny".

que nota!

Get out of here, Don G was banned by tinto, out of all moderators? I cannot believe it.

I like this site to pass time or find out info also to read about other peoples opinions. Criticism and insults are a fact life.

Smile if you are a thinker!

Both Tinto and Desi deny any banning....They have more credibility and integrity here than DG, so i know who i would believe....and, those nasty cookies are always part of the usual suspects....=)

I've never been to Colombia. I just had an inflatable doll Fedexed to me. And in Monteria it's chucha.

What I find interesting is that the Colombians always like to make their snide remarks here in Spanish. No estoy seguro si ellos piensan que no los entendemos o es más fácil para insultarnos?
