I left Australia 2 years ago. I lived there for 40 years. Compared to here (Colombia) the cost of living is expensive, and earnings are heavily taxed also. For good universities I would say Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne, RMIT in melbourne or Monash in Melbourne.

Since you are probably from the warmer regions I would suggest Brisbane as the other 2 cities have cooler climates.

You will need to earn a lot of money to live in the big cities in Australia. Rent, food, drinks and entertainment are very expensive compared to Colombia. As a foreign full fee paying student it will be very expensive. You will need to earn 3-5 times more than you do in Colombia to enjoy a similar lifestyle. If you have any specific questions let me know.

capitan_centella,

if you can give us an idea of what sort of thing you are looking ie.

Big City, smaller regional center, inner city or suburbs
What sort of design degree are you doing? Industrial design, interior design ,graphic design?
Near the beach , other geographical or climate related considerations?

I'm not aware of any dedicated site for that. But then again, never really looked.

You can work 20 hours per week on a student visa. This gives you a chance to offset some of your living and study expenses. The job market in Australia right now is red hot, pretty much anyone who looks for a job is finding one. English competency can be a barrier, yours seems pretty OK, however.

Having said that, I chatted with some Brazilian student friends in Australia to find out the profile of international students who are in Australia. I asked them if any of the international students they knew were from a poor or humble background and doing the trip to make money. They said that absolutely everyone in their class and social circle came from money in Brazil (family owns businesses etc). You will need a fair bit of money behind you to get the visa in the first place, pay for the flights and up-front university costs.

que nota!

Life in Australia probably isn't that great at the moment, at least not in the sporting world ;)
