More bloody statistics for what they are worth from our friends at Mercer provide Cost of Living ratings.
In 2004 Bogotá was ranked 139 out of 144 cities worldwide slipping from 142 in 2003. I expect it might slip even further this year.
The cities that were less costly to live in were Buenos Aires 141, Santo Domingo 142, Montevideo 143 and Asuncion 144. For comparison Mexico city was 84, NYC the baseline was 12, Chicago 35, London 2, and Tokyo 1.
Surprisingly expensive cities included. Beijing at 11, Istanbul 18, Abidjan 24, Douala 25, Ho Chi Minh 36, Hanoi 29. The last two are actually vast improvements over the previous year when they both were in the top 20 most expensive cities.
Let the debate begin.
