Bloody Hell Kernow, you must have plenty of spare time on your hand. Doing this must've taken ages!!
Goosekirk had some good photos, not sure where they are though.

I was bored, I was waiting for a program to finish what it was doing so made a pot of tea & just searched a few member's pages for photos while I was waiting. It actually only took about 15 minutes.

Cheers Kernow. A good idea on your behalf.
How do you add links to your posts? I've tried Control C but it just comes up with plain txt no a URL (think thats's the right term)

Also what tea are you drinking? I work for Twinings so i'm just curious.

kernow62 says on Jun 24, 2005, 05:57:

Fosth you have to use a bit of basic HTML code, as an example to link to my site www.gringoincolombia.com I simply add the tags needed to make it an active hyperlink. In this case it is a href="http://www.gringoincolombia.com"www.gringoincolombia.com

You must enclose the text in bold with an opening to make it work.

Hope that is clear enough.

I drink Lipton Yellow Label loose tea.

Desi... If your pics are too large it may be because they are Bitmaps (.bmp), or Tagged Image Format (.tif);
try saving them as JPEGs (.jpg).

P.S. If you mean they are too large on the screen, then either crop or scale them smaller...

kernow62 says on Jun 24, 2005, 08:11:

Desi you can download a freeware program called Irfanview, do a GOOGLE for it. You can then open a photo and resample it (you don't want to resize) this will then result in a smaller photo both in pixels and file size. You can further increase compression in Irfanview to make the file even smaller. The new PBH forum has trouble handling photos that the old one didn't.

kernow62 says on Jun 24, 2005, 08:18:

Ja ja Fosth, I like strong tea and I can't abide most of the fancy blends, I do like Twinings Irish Breakfast, but I am not paying the price they want for it.

I like that Liptons Yellow Label which I get imported from India directly to Orlando simply because it is strong enough to make me sit up and take notice! I don't care for any other Liptons teas, but I grew up on PG tips and the like and that is the taste I am used to. By the way I don't strain it, I drink the whole lot! And I slurp it and drink it out of the saucer too!

I know this must all sound like heresy to someone who works for Twinings. Of course if you want to send me some free samples, Indian teas only I would gladly accept. Heck I will even take tea bags.

The CRC tea isn't much good for reading tea leaves though. ;-)

Thanks Lionheart & Tinto.

I will consult with Gomezman and see what royalties we are due. ;-)

Actually because one of my little sideline businesses is a publishing company; I must keep updated on copyright laws as they are constantly changing. They also vary from country to country, although now US convention follows that of Europe which is a bit of a bugger as they are stricter and more restrictive than the old US laws. I have to make certain that the author of a work I wish to re-publish has been deceased for 70 years +1 year for good measure, and I must work from an edition of said book that is also older than 70 years. The one I am working on tonight should present no worries, the author is not known and the book was printed in 1769!

Nice tea talk, but let's not forget that we are posters to a Colombia oriented website.

According to a well documented study released a couple of weeks ago, "coffee provides more healthful antioxidants than any other food or beverage in the American diet." "In February, a team of Japanese researchers reported in the Journal of the National Cancer Institute that people who drank coffee daily, or nearly every day, had half the liver cancer risk of those who never drank it." "Last year, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found that drinking coffee cut the risk of developing the most common form of diabetes."

I've yet to see similar claims in support of the consumption of tea?

If the world's tea drinkers could divvy their daily consumption between tea and coffee, (granted, this is treasonous talk for tea lovers) it would increase world market prices for coffee, which in turn could have a positive effect on farmers choosing to cultivate coffee over poppies?

You can read the Washington Post article at:www.medellininfo.com/coffee.html

And while your at it, feel free to check out our new website: www.medellininfo.com

which is dedicated to promoting Medellin. We welcome constructive criticism with your understanding that the site "in process", and now is the time to incorporate your good ideas, which Kernow has done....thanks Kernow!

Thanks, from Juan Valdez, and:

Great site! Any chance you will do one on Bogotá? Not many of have the skills for such an undertaking.

An idea. Why not make a Colombian site with subheadings(menu)of major cities?

0 funny, 0 helpful.

jmbone says on Sep 10, 2005, 14:36:

Thanks aztec..the problem is time.
We have about 20 top level domains registered for the five major cities as well as Colombian "cover sites" which would include the city sites.

The problem is time. The fact that my work is not profitable also slows things down a bit.

At 67, I wonder if I'll ever finish my efforts here in my adopted Colombia. Don't wonder long though, for I'm enjoying myself as opposed to drinking crappy u.s. beer with my stateside friends and watching them, one-by-one, take the last voyage.

Life's so short, but spending it here in Colombia is a good investment in comfort and enjoyment.

After we complete Medellin, next up is Barranquilla, then maybe Cali and last (it's a bit cold for one used to living in Cartagena) will be Bogota......if I'm lucky. Any constructive input and ideas from PBH's are always welcome.

regards,
Jim

Jim, of course tea especially green tea has been proven beneficial to one's health. Tea also has a an effect on one's mental well-being, it is a comfort when things aren't going well. Your ancestors would turn over in their graves if they knew you were talking about coffee. ;-)

Interestingly the Cornish eschewed sugar in their tea to protest the slave trade, a tradition our family still honours.

Rural Colombia I've been uploading my photos from my last visit to Colombia to my Photo Blog

Cockney Colombian

It's been a long process seeing as I took a zillion photos and because I work long and antisocial hours in my job I don't really have a lot of time to get online.

Skip back to October which is where they start. Hopefully they will form a little bit of a narrative if you work your way forward. There's a few photos of Bogota but I mainly spent my time in my mothers home village, a tiny little place nestled in the Andean mountains of Cundinamarca.

Perhaps like the A Normal Day thread, it will give a glimpse of everyday life away from the big cities.

More photos to come.

Enjoy

    Dangerous to take photos? Hi,

i will be in one week the first time in Colombia. Travelling around Medellin, Pereira, Cartagena etc.

    I´m also a photomaniac :-)

Is it dangerous to take photos of buildings and people?
I would like to use a big SLR-Camera to get maximum quality. But with that camera i do look very touristic and get robbed!?

    kindly regards

Cartagena Lodging-Reasonable Hey. My wife & I (we're fiftish & have been traveling in L.A. since '75) are going to be in Cartagena after the 10th of January. We're coming off a long flight & need a decent place to stay & relax for three night. We're looking for something in the 120,000COP range. It appears that there is an awful lot of accommodation on the pricey side (more than 200,000 COP) & some in the back pack range (less than 20,oooCOP) but not much in between! Crazy. Plus the prices seem to rise by the month in addition to "temporada alta" that appears to extend out 6 months. Footprint Guide 2007 for So. America recommends a place North out near Playa Marbella (i think) but i can't get through on their phone line. For all you guys that have been in the city in the last month or so...do you have a suggestion for something we can prebook before hopping on the plane? Cheers!

For you men, The women are the most beautiful and in the right place with the right person, it could be magic.

Yeah maybe a moderator could edit the original post and whilst not deleting anything could always add in brackets which one is a dead link or a live link.

For example my photo blog is listed in the original post but it doesn't exist anymore, not because I didn't want to maintain it, but because the website it was hosted on closed down.
