Schengen Visa in Medellin - don't want to go to Bogota!

Does anyone know if any of the consulates in Medellin will process a visa application (For Colombiana) without one having to go to Bogota for an interview? I just tried Spain, no luck. Calling some of the others - inconclusive or no answer. These consulates have the most ridiculous hours (Like only in the morning, some for 2 hours!) ...the voice message for France seems to indicate that one needs to go to Bogota. Belgium / Belgica - Bogota only? - 112k Germany / Alemania Austria ...

fireworks in Medellin

I am sick of hearing early morning fireworks in Medellin! Pop-pop-pop-pop-pop. Occasional BOOM The peak was Xmas Eve (So much for Silent Night) ...but now I am hearing and seeing them this morning -- and it is 10am on Jan 6th, 2008. I can see the wisps of smoke from a distance...emanating from somewhere up the hill above CC Vizcaya / Parque Lleras. Is there no ordinance against this? Not that I expect it could be enforced. Aiiiee! ...

Colombians have small feet and random thoughts on MDE

I´ve been living in Patio Bonito, Medellin for 4 months so far...and here are some random observations. - Yes, Colombians have small feet. I wear 10.5 or 11 2E (Wide), EU 45. I have looked at quite a few Colombian made shoes and many of them do not go beyond European size 42. None of them have wide sizes. If there are any labeled wide, they aren´t the same 2E wide I expect. I have found New Balance (What I buy in the US) 2E but they are a bit more than in the US, and alot more than the C ...

Does anyone know under what header I would look for in the Yellow Pages for self-storage places? Similar to Shurgard or Public Storage in the US. I looked under almacenamiento with no luck.

Seasons in Medellin - Not just the City of Eternal Spring?

Yes, Medellin is the City of Eternal Spring, but does anyone know more specifically -- the variances in weather from "quarter to quarter?"

Even a microclimate may have micro-variances. Or maybe certain months tend to have more blue sky days than others - even if total rainfall is the same.

How wide is the radius of similar weather? Any good maps?
On that note - what is the best place in MDE to buy maps and guidebooks.

It seems like this topic must exist as a thread before, but I couldn't find it. Has anyone ever gotten a date with one of those cute girls marketing some company's product at the supermarket?

Medellin (Dance) Night Clubs

Starting this thread to talk about the nightlife options in Medellin. No place in particular. I've been to Mango's before and find it well...a bit too out there. The decor struck me as a bit odd and over the top. Very loud too. --- The dancing is top notch and entertaining though. The multiple dance platforms is interesting, though I am more for something a little smaller.

Does anyone know where I might find rolling office chairs in Medellin? I've been to the furniture places in El Tesoro and also a Home Mart (Not Home Center yet). ALso Carrefour and Exito - no luck.

Standard fare at any Staples or Office Depot back in the USA.
Say..is there any equivalent large office supply store?

I've been to a Marion chain, but that looks like small Kinkos+ type stores.

Does anyone have any idea where I might find an RF Modulator in Medellin? (For a DVD hookup to old TV in my rental apt)

Just today - I found the Centro Monterrey 2nd floor - lots of small computer stores.

I've checked the big places and didn't expect much - Exito, Carrefour, and small shops at El Tesoro.

One man recommended I go to La Cascadea (In Belen?) where alot of small shops are. Can anyone verify this?

Organic food in Medellin

Hello - in Medellin now and this is my 2nd time here. Planning to stay for awhile. Interested to know where people go to buy organic food in Medellin.

So far at the - Oviedo Pomona - I found:

A good selection of organic ground coffee (Juan Valdez, others)
Spaghetti (Only 1 Italian brand)
Small selection of vegetables
Various Jams
President's Choice (American!) cereal- wheat squares.
