circusoflife comments on Colombians have small feet and random thoughts on MDE

Quite possibly, the cheapest place to have an IMPORTED BEER at a nice atmosphere is HAPPY HOUR from Monday to Friday, 4pm to 7pm at El Corral Gourmet in CC Oviedo. Amstel Light or Heineken for only 3.000 COP! Great prices on all other drinks and snacks too.

circusoflife comments on Colombians have small feet and random thoughts on MDE

goin_south, I am the large blue Napoleon Wrasse fish. That is my human friend. I´ve waddled ashore in Colombia. I live in a lake just outside of Medellin. The girls dig my scaly skin. I´m half-fish, half human. Amazing things one can do when you know the secrets to evolution. You could become a fish like me!

Tijuana, Nogales, Nuevo Laredo. Good to know. They must have avoided me --- I only went late at night to suck blood!

circusoflife comments on Racism, seeking answers

elmo - here is your answer-- http://www.circusoflife.com/2012/about_pride.htm Pride - sin of Lucifer. Cause of all suffering according to the teachings of Buddhism. SO why is it all over the world. You want to be not racist, you have to get to the reason you are racist. We ain´t born that way.... http://www.circusoflife.com/2012/who_related.htm http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/11641621/ Buena suerte.

circusoflife comments on Countries that dont need a visa

Here are some additions using www.projectvisa.com and other sources...(Actually planning a RTW trip with a possible Colombiana...so it matters!) It would also be prudent to make the list either Visa free or Visa on Arrival (VOA) FSM- Federated States of Micronesia Hong Kong Romania Philippines - VOA (Clarification of above) Cambodia - VOA Mozambique - VOA Tanzania - VOA Kenya - VOA what is with Palau and PBH? I was there for a couple weeks too a few years ago! Kayaking is good there too!

About CONsumerism - does "anyone" really care? About CONsumerism and CONsuming...and palm oil plantations, etc.....NO WORRIES DUDE. Disfruta ahora.

You can't talk sense to prideful people about climate, chemicals, etc.."for the most part" - nobody gives a hoot. I mean enough to actually effect change. That's ok though. What comes around - goes around.

CONvict, CONdemn, CONfession, CONgregation, CONvent, CONsecrate, CONclave (where popes get elected in secret), Emperor CONstantine (Put Popes on map), CONfucius, CONvert, CONsensus, CONcubine, CONspiracy...

CON artist / man
CON = lie - to self or others, trick, secret

CONfidence Man (Look up on Wikipedia)

circusoflife comments on Seasons in Medellin - Not just the City of Eternal Spring?

No weather forecast on the news? That...is different. And perhaps refreshing.

I have yet to watch the tv news though...so I guess it makes no difference. Enough from the Internet.

Thankfully there are many big trees and taxis in the event it does rain really hard and I have no umbrella on me.

All empires fall. All empires suck. I'm not proud to be an American. I just come from that piece of landmass. Not proud of anything. oh yeah...all the patriotic hoes....pride is the sin of lucifer. Time to pay the piper soon....just a few years to go...

hola - fin de calendario de Maya.

circusoflife comments on Meeting up with people in Medellin

you think you are a minority -- you have no f'ing idea. I am a gringo...but I am ABC (American born Chinese). In two weeks here...I met one Japanese guy - at a hostel I stayed in for a few days. Since then (2 weeks) ...I don't think I've seen ANY Asians - man or woman. But you know...I don't remember for sure...since my mind tends to focus on the native female upright, bi-pedal variety.

circusoflife comments on Seasons in Medellin - Not just the City of Eternal Spring?

FWIW - the LP Colombia shows that MDE has the most rain in April, May, and October (The most) - 8 inches. Temperature graph looks stable year round - but doesn't reflect humidity or wind speed.

March shows to be low at 4". January and Feb near 2".

I bought an umbrella on the street for 5k COP. (Alot cheaper than Exito at 15-20k!) Same type it looks.

Thanks. I'll probably won't even notice it that much after awhile. I used to live in Orange County, CA, USA - I seldom tracked the weather because it was so predictable. If it looked different, well, I guess I would know when I went outside.

circusoflife comments on SEARCH: self-storage

Thanks tejasmarcos! I just found that yesterday as I was leafing through the yellow pages. --- Trasteos. Will pay them a visit on Monday perhaps.

Been able to find alot of things both on the Paginas Amarillas book and online! I guess it takes a little while to realize one can do some things the same way as back home...

Not sure what you mean wireless via mobile SIM.

circusoflife comments on supermarket / supermercado girls

It's said that communication is 50-80% unspoken. Body language. And a happy smile, and looking someone straight in the eye - if they can hold it. Would I walk straight up to a sm girl and say what I typed above...umm no. Maybe after some chatting about whatever she was selling. And a few things about her and/or myself. That's what I'm thinking, but I wouldn't think a long drawn out talk in the grocery aisle is the best thing.....but I was getting chummy with the girl at the book store today....but this is about the supermarket!

As for communication - that applies in forums and emails too!!! Even more so! :0

circusoflife comments on SEARCH: office chairs - rolling in Medellin

It turns out a live real close to a few office furniture stores. One of them is literally kiddy corner across the street - I didn't see it because it is in a home and there are lots of big trees here. But, I was looking for it after checking the phone book. Some amazing and pricey chairs.

Here are some more options:

www.easysystemcolombia.com - look under accessories. Find it at Centro Monterrey. I think I'm going to go with one of these. Around 400k. I think all these are made in Colombia.

www.compumuebles.com.co - on Avenida Poblado. Amazing German office chair (Chicago) - but at 850k + IVA I will pass. Maybe if I buy a place and get a dedicated office. Adjustable lumbar support and head rest!

www.metalicasjep.com - one of the chairs, an Italian one is 2 million pesos...but it is very slick.

www.linasydisenos.com.co

Found a couple of these places by just walking by, others under muebles de oficina.

Chairs are important to me, I have an excellent one ($600+ back then) I bought back in the US - 10 years+ ago...still looks almost new, and going strong. I think I can say that after a week I am a semi-expert on where to find office chairs in MDE! One or two more places to check out.

A "hot chair" it almost like a "hot MDE chica!" :-0

May others find this useful.

circusoflife comments on supermarket / supermercado girls

excellent. Now I know the official name. :)

I'm 32...but can pass for mid 20s (Although one person in Miami area while I was traveling through thought I was 50....very strange. That has never happened. Its always the reverse.)

Ok, next time the opportunity presents itself, I am going to try for the digits. Pomona or Carulla might be easier as Exito Poblado is just too chaotic. But, I guess it doesn't matter.

"Quiero encontrar mas paisas. Puedo llamada usted en la futuro?" (sp?)

after asking about the product of course. That's the 30 second icebreaker. I wonder what would happen if one ended up dating girls promoting competing products. Doh! :)

circusoflife comments on SEARCH: RF Modulator in Medellin

Thanks for the feedback. My taxi went by CC La Cascada- but it was closed - Sunday. I will go Monday.

These big malls with a bunch of little stores reminds me of similar markets of stalls in Asia - Bangkok or Taipei come to mind. In the US the superstores are too big and here there are too many small ones carrying the same stuff. No middle ground!

bradyvicky - thanks for the offer. If I can't find one tomorrow I will send you an email about it. They are about US$10-$20. I will send you an email with photos of my apartment too and some more rental property weblinks. It would be good to meet up regardless - as I am closing out my 1st week here (2nd time in Colombia - last year was 1st which was 2 weeks touring country) and always good to make new friends in an unfamiliar world.

circusoflife comments on SEARCH: office chairs - rolling in Medellin

Thanks for the tip on Makro. I checked out their selection - pretty good based on what I saw elsewhere. Never had heard about Makro before...looks like a Costco type setup.

I also rechecked Exito and Carrefour and they have a small selection - but no arms on most of them. They do indeed look like they would fall apart and give you a back injury at any time! :)

The other place I went to is Home Center next to CC Monterrey (Didn't go to the one next to Makro). The selection there is pretty good. None of the faux black leather ones - but a few candidates from a company called: Industrias Rod
http://www.industriasrod.com - click Sillas, then Sillas Giratorio

Alejandria - 170k.

Gorgonabob - which Marion store is large that actually carries chairs?

Saw a couple of small furniture stores that might have more options by Home Center Poblado. I'll check those in the next couple of days then make a choice.

circusoflife comments on ApartStudio Information out there????

Hi Bradyvicky,
I just rented Hi Bradyvicky,

I just rented an apartastudio (Here for 6 months+) that I found through a real estate agent that I met randomly last year during my first visit. It is a few blocks up hill from the Exito Poblado mentioned above - Patio Bonito area. 10-story building (On the 4th floor with good views), 6 months old or so. My unit is about 600 square feet / 56 square meters. Very open design.

I will be posting some photos soon - stylish furnishings!
Price 1.4 mln pesos - all included. US$645 / month. Cable TV, Cable Internet included. If I bargained harder maybe I could have got it for $50-$100 less. I'm happy with the place.

circusoflife comments on Organic food in Medellin

I certainly wasn't thinking Trader Joes, etc...LITERALLY. I have managed to find some more items after pecking around - but not a flood. Oddly enough...there is a Colombian system for ecologico / organic food. There is a display in Pomona and Carrefour.

Which begs the question - maybe there is more usage of pesticides, etc...than previously though. I generally don't go to Farmer's Markets - here or US (Not many and infrequent). I'll look around here more.

The comment on most Colombian food is organic...so if I go to the store and buy some bread (Bimbo, or otherwise) - is this organic? WHere does the wheat come from? US/Canada? There is "assembled in" vs "made in" vs "packaged" etc..Colombian potato chips (potatoes are one of the top 10 for pesticides)

..eating some organic Colombian pineapples (From a jar) as I type this...
