I wore my "NO MAS FARC" t-shirt in Skagway, Alaska today........

Yes, I wore my t-shirt that I wore in the Feb. 4th march in Medellin up here in Alaska today. It was my way of celebrating the success of Colombia. The news of the hostage rescue was all over the news the night before and as I walked through the tiny town of Skagway, I recieved many long stares. I heard some people in the background translating the words on my shirt to their friends as I walked by. Believe it or not, I was a approached by an ederly couple from Bogota and they were curious where ...

How do I convince my son?

My son, who is 24, is having a difficult time believing me that Colombia would be a nice place to visit for a few weeks or so. He is an ex-Marine and has spent time in Japan but I tell him that he needs to come to Colombia. I have refrained from telling him about this country as I don't want to glorify someplace that may not be suitable for him, but I do want him to at least give Colombia a try. I know my son. I know he would love Colombia. But, I'm dad. What the hell do I know? So, what would y ...

Bancolombia now changing dollars

BanColombia will now change up to $3,000.00 US for Pesos. The rate is not the best but better than what the crooks are giving at the other exchange places. Western Union was offering to buy dollars at 1,840 and BanColombïa's rate was 1,930. There is one catch. You must be a tourist here on a tourist visa. You must bring your passport. You will also need a photocopy of your passport's information page and your visa stamp. ...

Missing that "cluck" sound.

Just curious, has anybody noticed the missing cluck sound when opening a jar of something you just bought from the supermarket? I have had this happen to at least one food item every time I go to Pomona here in Medellin. The jar caps are clearly designed for vacumn but no cluck. A cluck concious concerned consumer Ok, I'm bored...... ...

How would you describe your passion for Colombia?

I have read many posts on this site for a couple of years. I enjoy reading all of your experiences. Many I can relate to. For me, Colombia has felt like home from the minute I landed and left the airport a couple of years ago. It is my home. Maybe this subject has been brought up before but what would you tell a newcomer what Colombia means to you? What keeps bringing you back to Colombia? What is it that you find here that you do not find anywhere else?

When I'm not in Colombia ...

Shipping personal items to Colombia

I know this is a long shot but does anyone have any experience shipping personal items to Colombia? I have several average size boxes to send from either Argentina, Chile or Uruguay. I'm thinking of using DHL unless someone has a better solution.

Thanks ...

My first exposure of the wonderful people of Colombia

About a year after I moved to Florida, I became friends with the cashier at the local 7-11 type store. I was attempting to learn Spanish at the time and he would only speak to me in Spanish and I always try to follow through and respond to him in Spanish. Of course, I would screw up and he would correct me. We both always got a good laugh at my Spanish. But his command of the English language always amazed me. He had only studied English two years at the time. I asked him how he studied and he s ...
