chispajuisiosa comments on Who Knows The Name of This Song and Who Sings It (Please!!!) It's a male artist who I was told is from Venezuela (if that helps). Thanx!

chispajuisiosa comments on why dont the colombians say "salud" when someone sneezes? This is the craziest coincidence...I have very bad allergies after it rains, especially now that it's been raining now in 'Quilla (I am constantly sneezing until my "antihistamines" kick in) and last night I noticed that my friend NEVER says "salud" or "God bless you" or whatever, every time I sneeze. I expect it because I suppose it was how "I" was raised; good manners and all that. Also, as a child I was led to believe that for that one second that you sneeze, your heart stops or skips a beat...and that was why you said "God bless you"...or "salud" to your good or continued health. I never looked into that, but how true is that? Speaking about manners (good or bad)...and not to get off the subject...but I've noticed too that when I'm out shopping and someone bumps me or brushes by me, they don't seem to excuse themselves. I've been practically run over and no one seems to say a word without me saying something to them first; I've even gotten angry and say something to where they see what they did wrong and apologize. Or how about when you are in a conversation with a salesperson and someone just rudely interrupts you as if you aren't even there? I see this ALL the time here. This happened to me last week and I finally told the person "HEY, can't you see we were talking to him and tending to us first?" The person turned red and couldn't say a thing...she knew she had been rude. I don't know, I live in Barranquilla and in a very good area, and it's what I've observed so far since I moved here...excuse me if I'm wrong.

chispajuisiosa comments on Ingrid to leave Colombia within the next few minutes Lcacique: "And what is heroic or intelligent about being a military contractor in a dangerous country taking part in controversial operations that have historically been proven to fail in curbing the overall level of narcotics that enter the US? These "dumb asses" put themselves in a position to be kidnapped or killed for a drug policy that is absolutely useless. A drug policy that most Colombians do not support (aerial fumigation)........" I remember about that time the US had a "NATIONAL WARNING" against any "American/US/officials/employees" from traveling into Colombia.

chispajuisiosa comments on Need anything? Lisa Zee: I also use a sweetner called "Dulcyl Stevia Natural" which "es una agradable formulacion a base de Stevia, un producto natural extraido de las hojas de stevia. Que es 300 veces mas dulce que el azucar." I sprinkle it on all my fruit salads y jugos! You can find packs of stivia here in just about any grocery store. This is a far better product because is it all natural (the main ingredient in Equal is Aspartame...Sucralose, the high intensity sweetener used in the SPLENDA® Products is not natural. It is a no calorie sweetener that is made from a process that starts with sugar. Although sucralose has a structure like sugar and a sugar-like taste, it is not natural. The advertising and packaging for SPLENDA® Products or Equal do not represent the product as “natural")...

chispajuisiosa comments on LilaM Hi Lila: truly, truly...MUCHAS Gracias for your feedback. I will let my cousin know what you wrote me. He IS one of the "good" ones...he truly LOVES those kids...he would die for them. He just happened to get hooked up with a miserable/insufferable woman from some "pueblo" (enough said)!!! I wish you the best with your situation. TC & GBY

chispajuisiosa comments on Need anything? twmcm: "x-nay" on the KFC bucket order! I went out last night (first time out all week, from that miserable stomach-bout). Had to go get a B-day present and went shopping at the "Buena Vista Shopping Center" here in 'quilla and "'lo and behold"... what do I find at the food court??? The ONLY KFC restaurant here (I asked)! I couldn't believe it...ordered a 5-piece combo (original recipe) and WAS sadly disappointed! The gravy was definitely NOT the same taste as I remember it...and the Colonel's multi-million-dollar secret recipe (patented ingredients/spices) also lacked (somewhat) in flavor. My guess..."no aguanta" due to the weakening of the USD...how could they do this to me??? The friend who was with me, actually gave the Colonel rave-reviews...after eating at every imaginable "pollo" joint in 'quilla (uno, PikoRiko, KokoRiko, PuroPollo, ComePollo, Pollos Arana, etc), he commented that KFC had a very "distinct" taste to it...and liked it, ALOT...we ordered more! billyb: I hate you! (jejeje...J/K...only jealous!!!) carolva: "tranquis, paisana!" El Corral "here I come" y te dare un brindis!!! :)
|
|
chispajuisiosa comments on Need anything? billyb: I guess I had that coming! Been sick all week with this stomach virus that is going on around here and your suggestion truly made things worse (talk about mouth-watering)! Thanks ALOT!!! Maybe I should be asking twmcm to bring me back an econo-size bottle of Pepto-Bismol! ;)

chispajuisiosa comments on Gay/Lesbian Marriage (Legal) in the USA Hi CG! I read your post when you first wrote it on Wednesday, but did not comment on it. It is definitely a very controversial subject. I know I am new to PBH, but, after reading almost 100+ comments on this topic, I would like to ask: of ALL of you who have commented/opinionated on this post, how many of you are truly gay or lesbian and have/had first-hand experience living IN this "lifestyle"?

chispajuisiosa comments on Need anything? carolva: Actually, MY favorite burgers in the US are In-n-Out burgers (double/double with grilled onions and a glass of ice-cold green tea). I eat McDonald's burgers HERE because the taste "seems" authentic enough for me to bring back some ol' reminiscing feelings from back in the US (you know, like the thread began: There's always some little thing I am missing or need or wish for...). El Corral, huh? I'll humor you on this, first chance I get! ;) Thanks! BTW: please excuse my ignorance, you really AREN'T Colombian, right? Your profile says you were born and live in Afghanistan; you also have no listings of the places you have traveled...HAVE you ever been to the US and indulged in their food? J/C

chispajuisiosa comments on CatGirl CG: thank you for your response...I'll give it a try too. My cat's name is Meeshu. He is a 10-year old Persian Tabby w/White and unfortunately, I don't have him here with me! My son takes care of him (they're brothers) and I'll be damned if I take him away from each other. He's not an "ordinary" cat. He was raised with a Peke, named Milo (yes, Meeshu & Milo) who is no longer with us (I gave him away). They used to play eat, sleep together, and Meeshu thinks he's a dog (he even knows how to fetch and guards the front door). All our friends are amazed by him; he's HUGE and everyone is scared of him. He's gotten grouchier in his old age, but he really IS one big "pussy", once you get to know him. I miss him...TERRIBLY!!! I'll try to get the pix up ASAP...for your enjoyment. TC

chispajuisiosa comments on Need anything? carolva77: Actually, I found Splenda, Equal (my favorite), Sweet-n-Low and various other (Colombian-type) "zero-cal" sweetners here in Barranquilla at a supermarket called CARREFOUR (Cada vez mas Chevere...don't ask). You just have to look. I also found Lawry's Seasoned Salt, A-1 and Heinz Steak Sauce, Ranch, Cesar, Dijon/Honey Mustard, Italian Vinegarette dressings at a little specialty market here too. There's also a store here called "FedCo" which carries ALOT of American products. You have to pay a million times more...but to me...worth it (I just don't have the patience to wait for family and friends to send it to me)...I crave things from the US...ALL the time! When I was in BOG I was able to find "whipped-cream"...you know, the kind in the spray can. I can't seem to find it here in Barranquilla. Also, McDonald's burgers and fries here (Barranquilla) are definitely on the money (am I wrong?)...I eat NO other burgers here...and of course, who can beat them fries...seems they don't lose their taste any part of the world...God bless Ronald! I didn't get a chance to eat at KFC when I was BOG, and haven't seen one here...twmcm, can you please bring me a bucket of the Colonel's original recipe on your way to BOG? I am soooooo craving that famous gravy on them 'mashed potatoes! I will reward you handsomely!!! jejeje Thank you for offering, that was an awesome gesture! GBY

chispajuisiosa comments on CatGirl Hi Catgril! I am not really sure which "Latin-American" you are talking about...sorry. But I have always been told that I look like "someone" they know or have seen...I get that ALL the time! I was wondering, how do I send you a pix of me and my cat (and/or how do you insert emotions, video clips, etc. on here too)? I have a cat who is like my other kid and can't live without. I'd like to share him with you. Let me know and I'll send it to you soon! Thx!

chispajuisiosa comments on LilaM Hola Lila: Thank you for your comment on my post. I wanted to ask you if what you wrote is "always" the case...for example, wouldn't my cousin have the opportunity to have at least 50% custody of his children? Or are you saying that the mother "always" gets the kids and the father is only there for financial support? Aren't there any cases where the father is allowed full custody when the mother is incompetent or abuse? There relationship is unhealthy and he wants to stay a part of his children's life as much as possible. Have you any experience on this subject you can share with me? I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

chispajuisiosa comments on An Unhappy Father NEEDS Help! CatGirl: Thank you for your comments and advice! Today, we found an agency here in Barranquilla called "Comisaria de Familia" and we have scheduled an interview for intervention. Witnesses are not going to be a problem...he has an entire neighborhood that can attest to this woman's behavior against him. Webmanco: I support my cousin 100% because I know what it feels like to have a "deadbeat" father. My cousin may not be some "macho-type", but he genuinely loves and supports his children...which I find commendable...given his situation!

chispajuisiosa comments on dwmte7 Douglas: "Yes" ... I have a 25 year old son. I got divorced when he was 5 years old and the nature of my sentiments derive specifically from this experience with my ex-husband. I raised him as a single-mother and he my son never regrets my decision for divorce at his young age...in fact, he grew up to learn "why" we divorced and is grateful he had two loving parents...although they lived separately.

chispajuisiosa comments on Joel y Luza Joel and Luza: Yeah, I agree with you too, but it's not that simple here to take the children away from the mother, that is what we are trying to find out. That he has equal rights. And yes, he is in a common law marriage. I just found out that according to article 154 of the Colombian Civil Code, the divorce is a way to end the link created by the marriage. The law 25/92 explains which the causes are: 2. violence, cruel behavior or injuries to the partner. I believe he has grounds for a good case in court against her. He has lots of witnesses of her bad behavior towards him and in front of his children. It's the reason why he left her now, to prevent the children from continuing to endure it.
|
|
chispajuisiosa comments on CatGirl CatGirl: I also agree with you. The children are NOT stupid and they see and hear everything. This is very depressing for them and can do a lot of damage, especially at such a young age. I don't know why people think that if they stay together "because of the children" when they DON'T get along, that they will hurt the children, when, in fact, they are hurting them even more living in a loveless (sometimes violent) environment. I feel children would rather have two happy parents living separately than having them live miserably "together"!!!

chispajuisiosa comments on morphus Morphus: He actually makes $235K pesos bi-monthy and brings home $120K /-...the majority of the deductions from his paycheck are life insurance, health insurance (aporte ordinario, seguro de vida colectivo, AMI (children's emergency care/at-home and ambulance service), colseguros, comfamiliar, recordar (this is like in case of death a deduction to help with the funeral costs), Colmena ESP and pensiones y cesantias). The house they live in belongs to his mother who is letting his family (her grandchildren) live there rent-free. There is a small apartment next door which they collect $200K pesos in rent monthly for utilities and other expenses. Education here, even for a child of three years is NOT free or public schooling like the US...you HAVE TO pay for your children's' education which isn't cheap here either. There is no doubt that he needs to get a better job and believe me, he is trying to find something better, but good jobs here are hard to come by for someone with barely a high school education. Her taking the children away from him will kill him, he lives for those kids and they love him equally. It would be unhealthy for those kids for her to take them to Bogota...away from him. She is using the kids to get him back, and now the he refuses to be get back with her, she wants to hurt him by taking the kids from him.
