Chapin comments on What's the deal with Spirit Air and their alleged $88 flights???

I managed to score tickets on Spirit to Cartagena. It came to under $300 roundtrip. I also manage to get tickets to Guatemala when it was $1 each way tax = less than $100 roundtrip. Only few dates available on both occassions but my schedule is open, specially traveling to those two places that I love.

Chapin comments on Anywhere in the US to Cartagena $88 each way + tax... Spirit Air.

I don't pay the insurance or the travel club, I just wanted to leave it there just to show people. I've flown Spirit when they began LAX-GUA last year and managed to score $82 total roundtrip tickets. Don't expect food and baggage is limited.

That previous video reminded me of this one...

Chapin comments on Anyone knows the areas to stay in Buenos Aires?

Thanks for leading me back to my post :) Thanks for the links, I will start researching the info provided and will probably order the book Mike recommended. Is it true that a lot of people in Buenos Aires leave to the costal areas during the monts of January and February? I would like to feel a vibrant Buenos Aires and was wondering if is better to travel in march/april.

Chapin comments on Anyone knows the areas to stay in Buenos Aires?

Is it possible to go see River play? Big fans of River... Some electronic clubs. good restaurants and shopping places. I actually prefer an apartment as I am traveling with g/f. Thanks for the links Lucas.

Chapin comments on Anyone knows the areas to stay in Buenos Aires?

Thanks, any of you know any websites to look up some apartments. The one given earliers is about $150 a night for a one bedroom in Palermo Soho.

Chapin comments on Bringing booze to Colombia...

On my last trip I made a stop in Guatemala before continuing to Colombia. I loaded up on Ron Zacapa Centenario (highest rated). Took 4 bottles plus one of Vodka that I purchase at the airport. Was never told anything when I got to Bogota.

Chapin comments on Anyone knows the areas to stay in Buenos Aires?

Thanks for your help, keep it coming! What activities can I do in a full 7 days, is it possible to travel to Punta del Este for a day or so? I would like to visit a vineyard, nightclubs and some really good steak restaurants. Recommendations to everything is really appreciated as it would help me a lot to plan my trip for the short time available. It will be the first trip to Argentina for my other half and myself. P.S. Podborski, I see your boutique hotel is close to the street named after my country :)

Can I have your contact information for the Dentist that you recommend on this forum? What kind of work has she perform on you or any of the members of this forum that you are aware of?

Chapin comments on Colombia has the best healthcare system in America

I had a few friends have plastic surgery done at both Clinica del Country and Clinica Santa Fe, both were really good hospitals. No doubt that people go to Colombia because is less expensive. On the other hand for serious stuff the U.S. Hospitals are very good if you can afford it or have the insurance. I currently work for the third hospital on this list http://health.usnews.com/usnews/health/best-hospitals/honorroll.htm The hospitals on that list get (rich) patients from all over the world.

Chapin comments on Hotel Recommendation (Bogota)

I recommend you stay in LA FONTANA.

Chapin comments on how much alcohol can I bring INTO Colombia?

Last year I took a total of 8 bottles (750ml) of rum from Guatemala. Including Ron Zacapa Centenario(the best and only rum in the Rumfest hall of fame) as gifts for my friends and they love them. I wasn't even asked about the bottles at all. To the USA is only three liters, but you can pay two dollars extra for each additional bottle. Not bad!!!

Chapin comments on Is there such thing as VISA just for a TOUR?

Thanks Gator. That means that she might have in fact gotten a regular tourist visa...now the wait for the passport and hope im right on that.

Gator is there a way I can send you an e-mail?

Chapin comments on colombians in mexico city

Colombians are third in amount of permanent residencies given in Guatemala. Only behind Salvadoreans and Chineses. They are only third in visas given.

Chapin comments on US Companies in Colombia

Wow, even for US citizens working for US companies those are some low paying jobs...anyone has recommendations on jobs abroad with a US company?

Chapin comments on Visa for minor

Thanks Gator, your always great at answering these questions. Well my friend's stepfather is infact her sister biological father. So I don't know which is the best way for them two or one to get a visa... So ofcourse there would be permission by both biological parents. Supposedly it is to spend time during her vacation with her sister (citizen) in the states.

Chapin comments on Is Columbia Really Happiest Country??

You guys should check out this website http://www.419eater.com/html/trophy_room.htm No wonder they are at the top of the list.

Chapin comments on Immigrating 15year old sister? Whats the length?

Well, atleast they are trying to come to the US legally. So I really don't know what's wrong with that. If all three can't come at the same time, they won't loose any sleep over it. They rather wait that leave a family member behind.

Chapin comments on Immigrating 15year old sister? Whats the length?

WOW that is going to be a little painful for that to happen. I really doubt that her parents would want to leave her sister in Colombia.

Is it better for her sister to try to obtain a tourist visa, o whatever kind of visa that is easy to obtain?

My friend sees everything she has done as a sacrifice for her and her family to live here. Now that I told her that her sister might have to wait a minimun of 4 years. I feel she will be depressed knowing that

Any other recommendations will be appreciated.

Chapin comments on Immigrating 15year old sister? Whats the length?

After talking to her today she has decided not to petition for her father. Her father had some legal problems in Colombia, so she is thinking that it is in her best interest to petition for her mother, stepfather and sister first. She might petition for her father after the others are first approved.

The package she has to file are

I-130 for each one.
Biographical form for all 3.
Proof that she exceeds the poverty line by 125% (If she files for her taxes jointly with her husband, should that be included?
Proof of divorce of her mother
Proof of marriage between mother and stepfather.

What am i missing?

Chapin comments on "el chico district" in bogota

I just stayed at the Bogota Plaza for 7 days. It was a good hotel, the area might not have clubs or good restaurants nearby but you can easily go to Zona Rosa, Parque 93 and Unicentro by Taxi.

Chapin comments on Here's the most comprehesive Hotel List for Medellin

Were you staying in a private room at Casa Kiwi? I called to get a couple of private rooms 2 months in advance but they have people that are staying there long time. I had to look elsewhere!!! But there is always availabity for rooms with 4 beds.

Chapin comments on Business opportunities in Colombia!!!

I have read some messages and found some concepts interesting.. There's is one problem that I have yet to figure out; How do I bring the capital to the Colombia? This business would involve an American Citizen and a Colombian. Do you how would the Colombian government tax the business or what percentage in a strato 6 and what part does the IRS play in this? Is their a need for the other investor to obtain a business visa? If anyone can point to websites or places in Colombia where I can find out this information it would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone that can give me the basics to develop a business plan is welcome to PM.

Chapin comments on Business opportunities in Colombia!!!

I don't have any knowledge in textiles or research!!! :p

August 1 to 4 - Cali (duggersandsomething hotel)more recommendations under $60.00

August 4 to 8 - Medellin (Casa Kiwi) More under $60.00?

August 8 to 10 - Cartagena (Hotel 3 Banderas) Pretty good right?

August 10 to 11 - Barranquilla (have no idea on hotels here) Anyone?

August 11 night arrive in Bogota.

August 12 first friend flies back to USA.

August 13 my friend and I fly back to USA.

I don't know much about hotels in Barranquilla or Cali. There seems to be a lot of info on Medellin Hotels on the posts here. If someone can help with the those two cities?

Is most of the nightlife in Cartagena in the old city? (Trance, Salsa)
Thanks

Is it easier to go to EJE CAFETERO from Bogota? I could possibly add two more days to Cali, that's why I need help from those that have traveled or lived in Cali.

Thanks ahead of time!!!

Chapin comments on Help me with my Itinerary!!!

Any help? Anyone?

Chapin comments on Help me with my Itinerary!!!

For Bogota im leaving the rest of the time. If recommended I can add more days to other cities by taking away from Bogota.

Chapin comments on Why are Colombians so addicted to soap operas?

Well tonight I show up to work at the hospital and happen to see a couple of Hollywood Reporter magazines, I decided to pick them up and who was on the cover? Betty La Fea, it talk about how the soap has taken over India by storm. It was a pretty amuzing article!!!

Maybe I'll post it later.
