as i mentioned in previous posts, i am moving to bogota in mid june with my fiancee. my future father in law, who is a bogota native, has spoken with the consulate's office in washington dc and he was told that my fiancee and i need to get a student visa to live in colombia. i am curious about the process to obtain a colombian visa; ie, i am an american hoping to move to colombia for a few years in june. does anyone have any advice on 1)how long it may take to obtain a colombian visa from the consulate in the US, 2)if i get a resident visa but do not have a job in colombia, will i still be able to get a teaching or some other sort of job with the resident visa after i move there, 3)will there be a problem obtaining a visa with a "criminal record"...i have 3 misdeme ...
does anybody have any info about the safety in bogota for gringos? my colombian fiancee and i are moving to colombia in june '04 and i have been doing research. her mom says that bogota will likely be the safest place for us to live, but that is where her parents are from so they are probably biased towards bogota. anybody agree/disagree on the safety??? obviously, we want to be the safest. thanks for your time, any responses will be appreciated. ...
