I know it is early but I am looking at taking the family(wife, 16 & 11 year olds)to Colombia for sping break in 2009(early April) I have been to Bogota and Medellin and will be in Cartegena in November. Want to decide on a location soon so I can keep an eye on airfare promotions. Just not sure which would be the best for a family. Have thought about Cartegena with a side trip over to Santa Marta, but living in Florida, visiting a beach is not a big priority on vacation. Would be there ...
Just wanted to say thanks for all the suggestions. Got back Friday after a quick 3 day trip to Medellin. Should have been back Thursday but problems with Aero Republica(breakdown) Although all I heard were positive comments on Medellin before I left(from people who had actually been there)I was still a little concerned. I came away quite impressed with the city, it was much more cosmopolitan than I expected. I stayed in Poblado, great area, traveled downtown(Centro) rode the Metro out to ...
Will be in Medellin next Monday thru Thursday, could use some recommendations: Restaurants-(will be staying at the Shertaton) looking for good local food, within walking distance of the hotel. Bars - have seen posts on Mango's, actually looks a little like Mango's on South Beach, maybe looking for something a little more sedate, any recommendations for a bar with live music where a Gringo who speaks limited Espanol will be comfortable. Casino- are there casinos in Medellin? Would just l ...
Will be there next week, how is the water to drink? Always drink tap water in Panama & CR, believe I drank bottled water in Bogota, was playing it safe. How about Medellin? Thanks.
Have gotten several recommendations directly about hotels in Medellin. One of them seems to be a bit different. An email recommended the Medellin Mansion, was able to find 2 reviews that said it was in a good location and nice rooms. But.... I apologize if I am sounding a bit naive, but is this a hotel or brothel? I appreciate the recommendation however I am going to have a lot of explaining to do if I stay at a cat house. Am I misreading this?(their website has the best looking employees o ...
Was planning on checking out Medellin early next year, but turns out I have a bunch of vacation days to burn before the end of the year, so I will heading down in 2 weeks for a few days , a couple of quick questions: Hotels - where to stay where I can walk to restaurants(and nightlife & music). (I am a Gringo that speaks limited Spanish)Budget would be in the $75-$120 range. Taxi from airport - how much? how long does it take? Close in neghborhoods to check out, looking for safe area t ...
Need some advice, have been looking at property(apartment) in Panama City however before I take the plunge I would like to check out Medellin, I have been to Bogota and really enjoyed the city, however the climate is a little cool for my tastes. Everytime I run into a Colombian either here in Florida or in Panama they always make a point to tell me to check out Medellin. It always goes the same way,"Bogota is nice but Medellin is beautifull and the weather is much warmer" I am never ...
I have been talking with a Colombian woman here in Florida about a finca she has for sale outside of Bogota, I believe it is about 60kms but not sure of the direction, it is outside of the town of Mesitas del Colegio.
Any info on the area would be appreciated.
I have done a lot of work and have traveled to Panama extensively. I have been considering buying property there however it is being overrun with investors/realtors.

I understand Zona Rosa is where many of the restaurants and clubs are.
Good bar for drinks, music and pretty girls(women). I should state though that I am in my forties so clubs that get hopping at 2am are a little late ...
