Catfish35 comments on Airlines Many if not all the flights still have translators, however it is not a law to have them which I thick is ridiculous. They do not have to be say Colombian but you should atleast have 2 linguistics onboard for safety. IMHO...Pero they are cutting back on this though and this is a fact. They all used to fly with 3.

Catfish35 comments on Airlines It is NOT a law that any international flights of any american owned and operated airline have onboard any linguistic people. Believe it or not but this is true. They are on these flights now because the AFA or other unions have negotiated this. There are many reasons why translators are suffering on USA owned and operated jets. But the bottom line is about money. They are paid more than the average flight attendant.

Catfish35 comments on health condition of the hostages a surprise I say I must agree that for being chained to a tree and having all the trials and tribulations of jungle captivity they did look a little snappy. That Stansell (gringo) guy actually looks better than before he was caught...Maybe I should head back over to Angostura and stash a few hundred Euros in my Tommy Bahama shirt pocket and hang a cheap camera from my neck to see if I can lose this beer belly and brush up on my spanish in the jungle a few years. God knows its gotta be better than sitting her in the USA watching three restaurants you have worked and owned go down the toilet with everything else here...in the economy!

Catfish35 comments on Airlines Jenny, Can't help you with the ticket much however, I urge you to write the company. Please tell them your concerns. I also would urge you to write the FAA in the USA. many flights now are being stripped of the LODO's or Language interpreters in cost savings measure. I have personal knowledge and experience with this. This is very unfortunate and very dangerous what the airlines are doing. If they choose to fly to foreign countries then they should have sufficient linguistic staff onboard to deal with that in the name of safety first and customer service second! If you need any info to write to anyone please advise me. I was going to post something about this awhile ago but just have not gotten the chance. Good luck and peace

Catfish35 comments on Three americans thanked the colombian military "THEY" never forgot about us...In my opinion are in two different contexts...In Ingies case "they" were the people AND the government. For whatever "THEY" did for her "THEY" did a helluva lot more than "THEY" did for the 3 mericans. I will concede that the almighty US military dilly dallied into the whereabouts...butt, I think we are talking that the "THEY" never forgot about us are the people of the countries, be it France, Colombia, or USA... So yes, I still believe americans never even knew or remembered that "THEY" had 3 people in the jungle of Colombia..

Catfish35 comments on Three americans thanked the colombian military United States? No one ever heard about these MoFo's in the States when they were down there. As I stated before about these guys. They were not innocent gringos waltzing down the street in Anywhere, Colombia feeding the poor and hungry. They were military connected guys engaged with flying over drug crops. What the hell do you think may to happen to you in this job? I can bet you that they get a hefty pay check or reimbursement. What will the others get? cept, Ingie and a run for the presidency again. It is unfortunate that any of this has to happen, but it does, and when you sign up to mingle and dangle and earn the big bucks because your dingle may get wacked and it does, well....take it to your sponsor..

Catfish35 comments on From what I have learned in Colombia a wedding ring or anything else means doodley squat! If the woman has a heartbeat and a free hueco they will be pestered to engage in sex whether she has a ring on her finger and bells on her toes! My friend is asked all the time to have sex by complete strangers multiple times per day. It does not matter if she says she is married or not interested, or has some STD, they will return time after time and ask again. I have witnessed this many times first hand. It is just brushed off as a cultural thing. So, to your Ring question.....not sure what the fuss is over if your not around or if you are. She should wear it because it pleases you. Do not expect it to be some type of garlic necklace to the hombres...aint gonna happen!

Catfish35 comments on Safety in Guayaquil Thanks Sam I was just in Ecuadoe for sometime. Guayaquil is not a great fav tourist attraction. It is hot and what is the real pisser is the humidity..it makes it very unbearable at times. Aside from this and it being a port city in Latin America, it is relatively safe. In the day you cantravel anywhere, by night, stay away from centro and port side. You will gett rolled there very easily. I found the comparison between Quito and Guayaquil very inaccurate. Quito is a very nice city and much more cleaner and friendlier. More professional and polite. Guayaquil is dirty and hardworking backbone type. Exactly what you would expect to find in a crowded South American WORKING port city !

Catfish35 comments on Colombian Department Store Wage I find it interesting you mention "store" if you walk into a typical grocery store you will find many more employees than it is typically necessary as compared to the USA. on top of the actually store employees you find company representatives standing in each aisle. Young girls dressed up in their Gillette, Nivea, Johnson & Johnson, Colgate, Bayer, clothes or name tags. The efforts to employ or offer employment are interesting. I am still aware that they are far from perfect!
|
|
Catfish35 comments on Colombian Department Store Wage From what I have learned recently.. believe the minimo is around 400 to 500 cop per month give or take. Employers pay empleados insurance and so forth. They are entitled to 1.5 pay on Sundays and holidays (of which Colombia is one of the most holiday riddled countries in the world). Although the employees do not earn a whole bunch, if they work for a decent company or decent people they are not "shaken down" actually they are afforded quit a few rights and protections some of are more than what are given in the USA.

Catfish35 comments on Who is or are your favorite posters that you have had over the years here on PBH ? I agree with UTC...it is obvious that certain people have a wider swath to talk crap than others do on this board. Although it has calmed down within the last couple months certain people are able to personally attack others but when you attempt a retaliatory strike your immediately squashed and threatened.

Catfish35 comments on Intal Driver License Colombia-USA As former Law Enforcement in Maryland. I would urge you to understand that if you choose to drive on this type of license AND break any traffic law you are most likely going to be detained and forced to post a bond usually in the amount of the violation before a District Court commissioner. The reason for this is because states do not have what they call a reciprocal act with any foriegn countries as they do with other states in the USA. This reciprocity insures that you will appear and or even pay the fine. So in other words if your caught speeding and get pulled over, if the officer decides to prosecute, he is going to make you post if not and he writes you a ticket you can just throw it out and return to Colombia and there is nothing anyone can do to you..unless your caught driving again here because you will most likely have a warrant for failing to appear. Just be careful, besides most officers do not know what the hell an International Drivers License is let alone ever seen one.

Catfish35 comments on Quito hostels emptier? I am in Quito right now. I have a condo in new town near the mall. I have not been here for sometime. Things are normal here. Seems like the day I left. I bought this place from Japanese Oil men in 1989 believe it or not. It was a steal. As far as the post Peter, still see many trekkers as normal, have not actually checked any hostels. More so Europeans than Americans, has always been that way tho. If I get a chance I will give it a gander. Peace to all..
