carter comments on Business visa o Temporal visa

found my visa on that colhouston website let you know about it later

carter comments on Business visa o Temporal visa

I know a lot of people owning businesses in Colombia on this visa. When I applyed for the visa in Venezuela I had to prove that I already owned my business ie DIAN, Camera Commercial etc

Im not sure if were getting the same info because this visa has been granted to people I know in Ecuador, Venezuala and Denmark all based on the idea that we have businesses.

A have also been told that I am not able to get residence til after 5 years on a Temporal visa. Its seems everyone has there own version.

I find it hard to believe that I could never get residence if i owned a business here.

Just to make one thing clear, he suggested that you get a work visa to work for the company you own???????

so you can own your own company on a work visa and draw a salary?

send me a reply to my email address if thats ok

Shaun

carter comments on Business visa o Temporal visa

shaun lots of thanks

carter comments on Business visa o Temporal visa

thanks Miguel The Temporal visa does allow you to own and run your own business. This is what Ive been using for the past year to run my business. i went to merida requesting the visa for business purposes and showing the camera commercial, DIAN and starting balance of my business.

Didn´t have any problem getting it and my business is restricted in no way other than the fact I need to get ity extended each year.

I was sure if there was any other benefit in getting a business visa

carter comments on Planning on a visit to Bucaramanga

just an add on to Zuans comments Bucaramanga is also blessed with some beautiful surrounding towns which are also safe to travel to.

A good place to take the lady is Barichara a colonial town 30 minutes from San Giul and 2.5 hours from Bucaramanga.

San Gil which is where I live and a one gringo town is a place to visit if your into activities like rafting, caving, paragliding, walking to waterfalls etc.

All towns in the area have ferias (festivals) so try and find out when each is on as they are a good time to visit. Especially if your a big drinker. The people here are very friendly and love a drink outside which we have the perfect weather for.

If you plan on visiting any towns let me know and I´ll give you any advice you need.

carter comments on I'm tecno's girlfriend & I'm german !!! should I move to Colombia?

do what all the other foriegners do in Colombia Party like crazy and if you ever get out of bed in time teach an English class

carter comments on Good Itinerary

Caslug surely your not saying that a weekend in Medellin is better than a weekend in a small town like San Gil.

You don´t know how to party.

carter comments on Good Itinerary

depends what your interested but thats the pretty stock standard trail.

I recommend atleast one small town, have a look at
Salento
San Gil
Barichara or
Villa de Leyva

as possible sites

if you have any questions let me know

carter comments on Chicas Aguila 2006

I just asked the local tienda and they gave me free posters.

they ussully have a new one each month

carter comments on Homeless in Colombia Finding a Way

Credit is the norm in my local tienda I do find that Colombians tend to pay back money to those in stores etc but think that I being a foriegner don´t really need the money so don´t pay me back.

that said I payed my friends University fees at the start of the 2nd semester and since the start of holidays he has worked hard and paid me back yesterday.

carter comments on Homeless in Colombia Finding a Way

POCO sorry I wasn´t talking about those with down syndrome or mentally retarded they do get well looked after in the town I live in.

I meant those with psychiatric problems who live in the streets.

I apologise if my post suggested that Colombian families don´t look after those members of there families with physical or mental disabilities.

carter comments on Homeless in Colombia Finding a Way

Sounds like the problem is that people think that handing out money is the only way to address the situation.

I think more people in this country need to invest more time into the homeless issue. In my town I find that the homeless (or should I say the poor because they may have a hut somewhere but no money to eat) get well looked after in regards to the fact that most restaurants give out free meals.

Besides why bother with a house when the weather is so nice and you can sleep by the river.

The one problem I find here is that the people have little time for people with mental illness. They are thought of as druggies, locos or just rude. But this is a problem in a lot of western countries Ive lived in as well.

The cities in the world that I have seen that are best dealing with there homeless problems are the ones with well organised volounteer groups and people willing to put in time. Obviously there are many other factors including the size of the problem, government etc.

I find one problem in Bogota is that people are scared of the homless, actually now that I think of it people in bogota are scared of everything.

carter comments on Story about drugs & breast implants

I feel sorry for your niece I would even go visit her next time Im in the city if she needs it. But please do not generalise about people in a country you know nothing about.

I think you´re trying to find someone to blame because you feel guilty about putting your niece in the position that she is in.

carter comments on Dumb questions about Colombia

GIB - Thanks for proving my point No I have never been to Island but have visited Ireland on occasions and use to live on a big Island called Australia.

And please don´t start on this culturally diverse USA crap Im from Melbourne, have lived in Toronto and London and spent time in US cities including NY, LA and San Fransico.

I know which cities are more multi cultural and which ones have the greatest understanding of the cultures which exist in it and which expect others to assimilate.

I will say though that the US has a greater understanding of Latino culture than Australia

carter comments on Story about drugs & breast implants

Biggest rule when travelling on a plane (this and don´t say bom Never carry a package for someone else. They ask you this at the check in desk, very clearly to every customer.

Did you pack your own bags?
Are you carry anything for anyone else?

I took a package home for a Colombian friend once. I trust the person but still I went through the package thoroughly. then when checking my bags in I presented the package and said that it had been given to me by another person and that I had thoroughly searched it but there could be a 1% chance something is in it. They checked it again and said it was All clear.

Under no circumstances take a package for anyone and not search it your self and have authorities search it as well.

Im sorry this has happened to you and your family but don´t say that all Colombians are untrustworthy due to a few bad people.

That would be like me saying that all Americans are stupid because your niece did a stupid thing.

carter comments on Dumb questions about Colombia

sorry GIB But from all my years of world travel I think the people in the US have been the most ignorant Ive met in regards to world issues.

I don´t mean to be bagging the US your education systems aims at educating students in other areas and you only have to look at what the countries achieved to see it obviously has many intelligent people.

My main point was to say how suprised I am about Colombians world knowledge. (Although they do still seem to think that Miami is the greatest place on earth, beats me)

carter comments on Dumb questions about Colombia

ohhh and for your gringos yes I use to ride one everyday to work

carter comments on Dumb questions about Colombia

Im surprised how good Colombians world knowledge is compared to people from the states. There was a girl here from the states the other day who was shocked at how good my English was, I told her i was Australian.

she then asked a dozen stupid q´s about riding kangaroos etc. before getting back to wanting to know who had taught me English.

after she walked away my Colombian friends (not highly educated and living in a small town)asked if all gringos were that stupid. I had to laugh because I think I have been asked more stupid questions in the states ten fold than any of the other countries Ive visited. (and thats alot)

carter comments on Colombia Trip

I don´t think its a bad thing excpeting to get robbed once or twice only a fool would come here thinking there is no chance that anything would happen to them and even though the chances are light at least if you do get robbed you put it behind you and keep travelling.

Pahlke, Im sending you aprivate message

carter comments on Crepes & Waffles and Single Mothers

tips included in bill I wouldn´t always trust tips that are included on the bill. I have a number of friends that tell me where they work the staff do not get the included tip. For example Carnes y Carnes (or whatever its called) in Chia. A tip of around 10% is included on the bill but doesn´t go to your waitress who is earning minimum wage. Its goes to the restaurant. the thing that suxs about this is that most people think they don´t need to tip because they are already paying one.

carter comments on Different routes to do the real travel, by road

nice one webmanco maybe GIB can edit it and have littl guerillas attacking the cars as they come through the mountains

carter comments on Tourists Held Near Park Tayrona

GIB A useful note would be who these 4 gringos who have been kidnapped are?
what were they doing here?
Do they have both US and Colombian passports?
do they have family here?
are they military?
do they work for the Government or Oil companies?
where were they taken?

This would be helpful information for travellers here as what there interests in Colombia are make a huge difference to why they were taken and how safe it is for backpackers here.

carter comments on Tourists Held Near Park Tayrona

Colombians don´t go to to Tyrona? Last time I went there it was so full they had a one out, one in policy. we waited in a line all day waiting for people to leave so we could enter.

In total there was 6 foriegners in the park but its hard to tell when a place is so full of colombians. As for the wealthy not going their most of the people we meet were students from wealthy families.

carter comments on Tourists Held Near Park Tayrona

Platano never said it was a good thing that the paras ran the place. I am well aware of what they do and what peoples opinions of them are in this country.

But it is a very strong rumour that Paramilitaries recieve money from the lost city trek and from the running of Park Tyrona.

it was reported that they killed the people who committed the last crime there and then murdered the innocent people living with them.

Believe me Platano I have no support for this group.

carter comments on Tourists Held Near Park Tayrona

yes those events did occur. they were locked in a hut for around 8 hours before letting themselves out. No one was hurt but lots of valuables were stolen.

This is a paramilitary controlled area and the rumours that i have heard since is that the paras killed those involved. (but thats only a rumour)

3 years ago 2 girls (Colombians) were rapped and killed in the park and the paras revenged there death by killing the men and there families.

carter comments on Bogotá-Cali by bus?

Desi try Salento
A friend Tim has a lovely house there aimed at foriegners. small town and on the edge of the national park. if your interested let me know and I´ll send his info

carter comments on Safety in Colombia

Muggles as a fellow aussie who lives here I say come along and have a blast.

The homestay will give you a better understanding of the country and the people and if rules are to strict you can always move to one of the backpackers in Cali where you will find plenty of foriegners partying. I recomend Iguana Hostal (SAFE).

Private message me if you want any more info

carter comments on Bogotá-Cali by bus?

Altrevido Can you please tell us more about these two dutch friends who were kidnapped.
Were they released?
how long were they held for?
was it reported in any press?
What was their business in Colombia? (tourists, Volounteers or business)
when did it happen?

carter comments on Travel in Colombia by overnight bus

Saritafercho The ciudad perida trek is one enjoyed by two groups of gringos a week of around 12 per group. Just prior to the kidnapping the Colombian government made a commercial encouraging people to travel in Colombia featuring shots of Ciudad Perida.

If the government is advertising it as a safe travel destination are these people really that INSANE to have gone there? Of course they did a full back flip on this after the fact and said people had no right to go there. I was in the TV commercial by the way so thats how I know about it.

As for how many foriegners are travelling per day by bus my prediction based on the current occupacy of the hostals and how often everyone is moving around is over 30 backpackers per day catch a bus. For the Platypus in Bogota alone there is over 10 people coming and going today and that is only one of four places filled with backpackers in Bogota.

currently in Colombia there would be over 250 backpackers not including Isrealis who I guess would make up another 100 (atleast)
all travelling regularly. I´d say most would take a bus every 5 days so on that prediction you´re looking at around 50 - 70 foriegners travelling by bus per day. This isn´t even the high season.

carter comments on Travel in Colombia by overnight bus

Lozza 0 reported cases since 1991 when a English backpacker got caught in a cross fire at a roadblock and was killed. Not a kidnapping attempt but a sad incident.

people on this site say that kidnappings go unreported but I personally believe that if a foriegner was killed here it would be in the international press and if someone was kidnapped they would tell there story once they were at home safe and sound.

carter comments on Bogotá-Cali by bus?

as a foriegner working in the tourist industry in Colombia a regular bus traveller and a person who meets around 5-10 foriegners who are travelling by bus on a weekly basis.

I can tell you that Litost is correct that there has been only one case in Colombia (Choclo) of a foriegner being killed on a bus ride after being caught in crossfire. Other than that there has been 0 cases of foriegners being kidnapped off buses being reported in the media.

Now GIB may go on about how things go unreported but what about after the event? If a kidnapped victim eventually gets killed it makes the international papers especially in his home country. If he makes it out alive he goes home and tells his story and I have never heard these stories in the media and the large varity of nationalities that I meet on a regular basis have never read these stories.

i advise the bus ride Desi unless any events occur in the area between now and then.

GIB, I do not advise hiring a car and driving as a foriegner if you are pulled over you will be valued a lot higher than a gringo on a bus. I have heard more cases of foriengners in cars having problems than those travelling by bus and I really think you may be going the wrong place for advise.

carter comments on CONGRATS AUSTRALIA!

we did it sorry its taken awhile to post but Ive been celebrating for the past two days. Actually back in Australia this week but couldn't get to the game. Im glad it wasn't Colombia we were playing in the end but it would be nice to have us both at the world cup maybe in the same group as the USA (hah that would be the easiest draw ever)

we should do alright at the cup seeing I rank Uruguay a better team than half the clubs that made it. Don't think will win it of course but if Korea can make the semis and Greece can win a European title anything is possible.

On behalf of Viduka, Guus and the boys thanks for all the PBH members who had faith in us.

Atleast with Uruguay and Turkey out it will be a much cleaner cup.

carter comments on for those interested in Football

Australia 0 - Uruguay 1 for those that are interested. Australia looked alright early on and had more of the ball but one lapse in concentration means we have to score a goal on Wednesday if not 2.

Recoba was easily best a field and was the only player really troubling us especially from set plays.

the last 15 minutes were a bit nervy for the aussies but our goalie was never really stretched except for the goal that was out of his reach.

The much talked about Cahill on this site didn't get a game for Australia and maybe selected in a more attacking team on Wednesday.
Hopefully Bresciano will be fit for that match aswell. Also Harry Kewell played 90 minutes but didn't have a huge influence.

carter comments on A second dead Italian?

Im a foriegner here for 2 years I have no family here, never came for love, am not in love and not here for the drugs. You people that say that those without family shouldn't come to Colombia, that think this is all Colombia has to offer don't know the Colombia that I know.

Its quite sad then when you claim yourselfs experts on the country without having any real understanding for the people and culture.
If you can find no other reason to be here than family then take your families and go

carter comments on A Play-Off? Australia is NO Match for South American Teams

No match In the four games Australia has played against Uruguay we have won one, drawn one and lost two.

In 94 they scrapped through by a goal, and in 2002 they had to fight after losing the first game and being out played by Australia in the first half.

So although Uruguay have been the better team in the last two qualifiers and have deserved to win. I wouldn't say Australia hasn't been competitive.

Its no sure thing Uruguay will qualify and again they will have to be at there best to beat an even better Australian team. Although they do deserve to start favourites.

I do admit that Id love Australia to be lining up against Trinidad and Tobago or Bahrain in the other repecharge. Australia is improving though and with the likes of Cahill (Everton), Viduka (Middlesborough), Breciano (Parma), Grella (Parma), Emerton (Blackburn), Kewell (Liverpool), Kalac (inter), Skoko (wigan), Moore (Newcastle) we probably have a better team than we did in 2001 although we have a few fitness issues with Kewell, Cahill and Moore looking ordinary.

Should be a good match.

carter comments on Lonely Planet Author's Blog about Colombia

new author Mike will be doing the book for this edition as the other guy decided to take a year off. The book will be reduced by 2000 pages per chapter and I would blame lonely planet more than the authors for the lack of information.

carter comments on Human Maggots in Colombia

maggots and leaches Leaches are still used in hospitals in Australia mainly after amputations I believe.

I had maggots back in 2003 after a trip to the Amazon this guy really needs to get tests for Leishmaniasis which the maggots carry.

If you want to see good live music Go to Melbourne.

Pub rock is alive and well. A few make it on the International scene ie: Jet. but most of the best ones are still working the bars playing for crowds of 50 to 400. Dallas Crane, You am I, Daughter Boy Jao, Pitchers and our next big export Airborne (those boys know how to rock)

G5 I thought I answered your question last time about why US gets no respect by other countries. But you never followed up with a reply Its because they have only beaten 1 (none CONCACAF) Top 20 team since the turn of the century.

The fact is that Australia has a better record than USA against top 20 teams but is ranked 54. If USA want respect in Europe they need to beat European teams.

If rankings were only based on results against top 20 teams USA would be lower than Australia and nearly every team in Europe there record is a disgrace.

want respect win games against opposition.

carter comments on what is Santander like?

Santander is the best department in Colombia Crazy Eagle Ive sent you a few private posts about other stuff and then found this question floating around.

That town I mentioned I live in is in santander 2 hours from Bucaramanga. Bucaramanga is the capital of Santander 8 hours Nth of Bogota on the same road to Cartagena and Sta Marta.

This area is among one of the safest in Colombia (not to be mixed up with Norte de Santander which is the next province up)

Tourist highlights include Barichara a beutiful colonial town, Extreme sports including good rafting in San Gil, Giron another colonial town and the Cañon Chicamocha one of the biggest in the world which they are currently building a cable car for.

The biggest highlight for me is the people extremely friendly and safe to sit down and have a beer with in every small town. The climate here is nicer than Medellin although Bucaramanga can get a little to hot somedays.

Another postive is that it doesn't have as many gringos as Medellin and the women are just as beautiful.

We eat fried Ants, we listen to vallenatos and like to dance. There are many small towns to visit. Bucaramangas about 1.5 million and is well developed and cheaper than the other cities. It has nice restaurants, good clubs, a good University, good shopping centres, public transport etc.

Any questions in particular let me know. I have lived in Bogota 6 months and been to Medellin many times and have now been in Santander 11 months

carter comments on Football

I believe Uruguay has a few more big occasion players. Plus Australias past history against them isn't great.

carter comments on Football

BJB I was just trying to rev you up with the Everton to get relegated talk.

But if Cahill needs a rest maybe his manager can give him one if its in the club and countries best interests. I think our last training camp is very important before our Uruguay match all players should be released, you have to take into account that our last big hitout otherwise was Solomon Islands.

Most Australian players only get called up for duty around 5 games a year and we have moved our home games to England or Holland to keep club managers happy. I could understand him being pissed if we dragged him to Sydney for a weekend but a couple of days in Amsterdam to talk tactics isn't much to ask of a manager.

carter comments on Football

just having a whinge how much better would it be for Australia if we had one of the other 2 repacharge teams.

Bahrain or Trinidad and Tobago.

I would be packing my bags for Germany now and Cahill could take a vacation.

I blame FIFA for Cahills ridiculous work load there the ones that give Australia the shit deal.

carter comments on The myth of traveling by bus

Juanalego San Gil Tourist capital of the world.

We always get documentary teams coming here but Ive never seen any of the documentaries. Ohhh wait i don't own a TV maybe the problem.

Quite a few of these film crews do come directly to San Gil via Bogota o Bucaramanga. But why waste your time anywhere else in this country its a shit hole and bloody dangerous. Santander is the only place worth visiting.

Barichara festival this weekend followed by the San Gil festival on the 5-7 November. Unfotunatly i will be in Australia for the month. boooo. damn family weddings.

went to a nice spot near Mogotes, Its a hole 100m deep that leads to some caves and is about 30m across. Inside the climate is quite unique and it is filled with tropical plants. at 4am everyday and 6:30pm every night thousands of Parrots swarm in and out and its quite beautiful. Also some really nice waterfalls in the area. Im planning on setting it up as a mountain bike 2 day tour for my clientes.
