CaritadeAngel comments on Aguardiente

Kalder, aguardiente is on my Banned List. It was the only time I was ever truly defeated by a hangover. My head felt as though someone was stapling planks of wood to it. I will never do it again. Aguardiente is in my top-five list of liquors I will never do again. It's number 4. I never drink much these days. But when I was an undergrad, I complied a little list. (1) Jose Cuervas (my reasons shall remain nameless, but let's just say the largest regrets of my adult life involve this. No hangover, unless you count the emotional kind). (2) Khoddays Indian Gin (also bottled as nail polish remover). No hangover because I never drank it. But it does the job nicely on the nails. (3)Korean soju ( like crack, but more addictive, and much cheeper, at $1 a bottle. The only time I ever ended up on the wrong side of Korean law after J-Walking under the influence of it in-front of six cops). (4)Tesco Superplonk, ostensibly masquarading as red wine which we drank as students because we couldnt afford anything else and didn't like beer. (I woke up and found I had enlisted in the Officer's Training Core, and sported an unmentionable tattoo etc etc. They stopped making it. I was hungover for 72 hours. (5) Aguardiente ( makes you want to sing cheep boleros while drunk on it, and gives you the hangover from hell). I had my first hangover for 3 years this weekend.

Because up north the girls know EXACTLY what they are getting. Dude, you drive a truck in Arkansas. Would you stand a chance REALLY if they knew where you actually came from? Fortunately, where you don't speak the language you can reinvent yourself. None can play the exotic, sexy, cool, or rich card ( they aren't rich, or they would be in Monaco) but a girl has to dream right. In an nutshell, the answers to the question are "accountability" and "opportunity". The surfeit of the latter and the lack of the former.

CaritadeAngel comments on feeding the bugs HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Timefor, can you put some info on where to get that patch?

I use the natural mossy-guard with citronella - I hate using DEET-based formula sprays. I found that the Barranquilla mosquitos tended to bite me through my clothing though - the locals advised me not to wear dark clothing.

Does anyone know WHY mosquitoes prefer some people and not others?

CaritadeAngel comments on Do Mail Order Husbands Exist? A question over farewell ice-cream.

Yeah, I've seen the Caribbean islands, Those boys didn't look like they needed that much "protection". Other than the obvious, latex kind. Cuba was my only direct insight into what it myst be like to be a guy in Asia or Latin America: to be constantly offered sex for a price. I must have been the only gringa on that island who didn't go there to get laid.

But I am not speaking of cougars: they don't need agencies. I'm speaking of women who want to get married. Arranging their own marriages so to speak.

Hey Jaime, I want that job! Give me the job! I'm sure the gentlemen here will be happy to provide you with a reference: I'm just perfect for it.

Poor Ethics, no problem - nothing compared with what a chick has to put up with teaching in Asia - and I have my own, SPECIAL ways of making sure you pay me.

Once you've done white ... ... you've done it right.

As long as Rey knows, for him, he'd have to be once rich "modefoque" to stand any chance with me.

Like most professional ladies here in Barranquilla, I have a surcharge for gringos, and a further surcharge for HPs.

CaritadeAngel comments on The Liberation of Municpal Coconuts

DILLIGAF? No Rey Unless you are prejudiced enough to think that all males in Colombia are sex tourists, and are projecting your predjudices on to me? Oh yeam thats right. All women who ask for justice are feminists right? All women who disagree with the actions of SOME gringos here are bitter and lonely, right? And probably a communist. Hell, Rey what a narrow little brain you have.

You know damn well that my criticism of the actions of SOME foreigners (male and female) here, (not all) is not a criticism of all, and certainly not aimed at one particular gender. I expect though that you will conveniently ignore that as well along with an other rational argument.

As for being a one trick pony, I do post on other topics as well.
But continual mis-representation of the "target" is one of the hallmarks of a bully, Rey, is it not? Diddums, its never really worked with me, so I understand why you are sore about it

CaritadeAngel comments on Colombia To Recognize Gays As Couples Today; Prez Uribe Supports Gay Unions

Well, its ok for Gays in Colombia
But not journalists or trade unionists. Funny ol' world, isn't it?

Gay marriage is basically a legal contract for the sharing of property: tehcnically speaking, I could get together with a female pal and do the same thing, and we wouldn't have to have sex with each other to make it a valid contract. In no way is this kind of arrangement (in my mind) anyway, the same as a heterosexual marriage, which is bound up with the creation of life and spiritual unity.

I agree with Kalder: kids need a mum (they also need a dad). I would never consider having kids if I wasn't married to the father. Children need a good male-female balance (just my humble opinion). I would adopt kids by myself, but I would never give birth to my own. We do not have the "right" to children: they aren't things, they are people.

Colombiche and Kat This thread, is NOT about sex-tourism or any other "substantive argument". It's about cowardice, about the fact that some of these guys are quite happy to threaten and send abuse in private, or gang up in public. It isn't me that's repeating the same old crap. Its them. Don't fall into the trap of letting the usual crap from a few guys blind you to what's really going on. But anyway, this has served it's purpose: it has indeed, changed the unchangeable. No more hate-mail to my personal in-box. Now, I wonder why that could be? Could it be that when you meet aggression head on, the cowards retreat?

I think it will also cut down the number of abusive PMs sent to others as well, since you all know that when you receive one, you can forward it to me, and into the public domain (with my comments) it goes. There, unchangeable has been changed. There's no such thing as the unchangeable.

My only "moral judgements" (we all make them) on pbh so far have been about sex-tourism - that is, the actions of foreigners in Colombia. If anyone else says anything different, they are lying through their pearly-whites. The reaction disproportionate to the amount of bitterness produced by some of the gentlemen here, all I can say is your consciences must really be bugging you.

Of course, instead of gang-banging and throat-slitting, why not burning at the stake? That's the time honoured tradition for ridding your community of a girl...and I'm sure that the more skilled amongst them can even manipulate the other women into throwing the first torch.

Now, for the last time, lets take it outside, or are you chicken?

CaritadeAngel comments on My second day in Curramba

Damn, lads You need to come to my country. Talk about uninhibited. Secretly, Elmo enjoys the chase.

Inhibitions (by the way why isn't their a word "hibited"?) are necessary for conquest. Or its not a "conquest".

Passion, that's the thing. All my life, I've been searching for a place with a few more inhibitions than home. Some tension that reverberates like a plucked guitar string between men and women.

Thats why I love Barranquilla so much.

The inhibitions.

Ahhhh.

CaritadeAngel comments on There's a rumble going down, and gentlemen, you are invited...

That is not fair comparison What does that have to do with "objectifying" people? Or aren't you going to admit you misrepresented me (again)?

I don't think defining a sex tourist as someone who travels for sex (duh) as "so broad as to be meaningless". I am also not the first to use this broader definition. I fail to see your logic. Just because "cat" normally means domesticated felines, it can also mean Scottish Wild Cats, Lions, Tigers etc. You are not wrong for using teh word cat to describe them, but you do need to clarify which kind of cat you mean. Same with tourists. Same with sex tourists. A term can have several meanings, or several sub-categories in the English language. But then you know this.

There isn't a country in the world that has a problem with "bad" sex tourists, Pod, which didn't have a problem with "good ones" first. After all, there are many more "good ones" than bad. Tourism caters for "all tastes". Tourism is always tourism. Sex is not always just sex.

But we've done it to death here: if you want to talk more about this, come over to my place (virtually speaking, of course).

Now let him speak; 'tis charity to shew."

CaritadeAngel comments on There's a rumble going down, and gentlemen, you are invited...

Objectivity. You didn't have to post it, since I have already said this many times here, but I appreciate it. Cheers.

I have never, ever used the term "objectifying someone", Pod, these are your words not mine. Please stop misrepresenting me. The word is clumsy. I don't understand what you mean by it either.

All straight men have looked at women as "objects" (and straight women look at men as "objects" too: the object of my lust, yeah, but also the object of my affection, the object of my love, the object of my desire ... if you are the object, in a subject-object relationship, you are the one experiencing the "subject's" action ...

Right now, I am the object of your annoyance.

Mary lusts after John: John is the object, Mary the subject.

John loves Mary: Mary is the object, John the subject.

As in grammar, so it is in life.

You just have to look at it objectively.

CaritadeAngel comments on There's a rumble going down, and gentlemen, you are invited...

Pod, I'm surprised Given how educated you are in political economy. You know darn well I never said or implied any such thing. The expanded definition of sex tourism has been around for a while, I assure you.

By clicking on this link, you can find what I have ALWAYS thought, and said, on the subject. Nothing there about you guys being paedophiles. So engage me on that, by PM or on my blog, centring on the core elements of the argument, and quit trying to misrepresent me. Its a low tactic for a gentleman as intelligent and compassionate as you are.

By clicking on this lin, Podrowski, you can find my response to your mumbo-jumbo. I really expected better by now.

But I put it to you that men have been "objectifying women" (your words, Pod, not mine,) since Adam first saw Eve and asked her to stand back.

Sorry I dont know why its doing that Rey. I haven't put any tags or anything. My com won't cooperate today, having all sorts of trouble with it: if this doesn't post in normal type face I'll have to see about fixing it tomorrow. I'm only interested in exposing cowardice, and occasionally, injustice. Its you, not me, confusing sex tourism with prostitution.

I never said anything about stopping prostitution, Rey. Where in this thread have I said that I wanted to stop it. Hell, I'm all for it. I'll even do you Rey, for 17 million dollars, and if you rubber up. Every girl has her price.

I'm sure YOU would never volunteer to slit my throat ... so, for a good time for ALL your multiple personalities, PM me, Rey, but make sure your PM is switched on so I can get back to you with my price list for "extras".

CaritadeAngel comments on There's a rumble going down, and gentlemen, you are invited...

No Liza, but, Well, I have reason. But you are right to wonder. Here's why.

I'm sorry if you find this post too long, but you should remember I am replying to several people at once. And not all are as reasonable as you, Liza.

Its like this. Since Pariah has outed himself I have no problem mentioning his name. He is by no means the first though.

He writes to me with several paragraphs of hate and one valid point worthy of discussion. He then turns off his PM facility. Now, its possible that his PM facility was turned off by accident, but, after reading that he wanted to personally slit my throat on principle I was somewhat disinclined to believe the best of him. So I answered his valid points - and SOME of his insults (omitting the throat slitting and a couple of other comments for neutrality's sake) on my blog and posted the link here. Publicly. And I invited my detractors to come and meet me, in public, but off site (since they clearly want to discuss things which are not on the topic of Colombia). Now he's here, whining because I placed a PM discussion in the public domain. Not my problem. His problem.

The best way to meet bullying is to come right out and tackle it. Cowardice, you see, being the order of the day. They throw down the gauntlet but I name the time and the place and they back out like the cowards that they are.

Now I'll give you an example of Rubito, who is not a coward. Rubito has disagreed with me many times here. But Rubito is a logical, rational, man, so he writes with an "I disagree with such and such of what you said" in private, and agrees that I can publish his comments on my blog if I want, being actually interested in a real discussion. Rubito and I may never see eye to eye on many points, but he has not sent me PM hate mail. He has sent me an argument. Its also clear from his emails he as actually read the substance of my argument properly: not just assumed. He's fairly perceptive, so we should have a good discussion – I'll post the highlights on the blog.

Finally, I don't want to repeat myself. One of the reason why when all this started was that because they continually ignored my arguments (too busy attacking the person) I made the mistake of repeating consistently held views on prostitution , sex tourism, and international marriage brokerage.

The best way is to write this once – my views don't change, and post a link. Those that are interested in discussing the argument or issues will read it. Those who are not will keep on trolling and flaming by PM: incidentally, so far, no more flames by PM. I wonder why THAT could be? Tell you what, I'm in generous mood. If anyone else receives hate mail from PBH posters, forward it to me and I'll pin it up in the hall of shame with my comments. They will stop. Eventually.

Essentially, I don't cast pearls before swine. Instead, lets see how many times the gentlemen sling ad nauseum the lables of leftist, feminazi, bitter man-hater around. So much more fun than actually applying the brain God gave them (I predict further abuse on grounds of religion very soon).

CaritadeAngel comments on What's in a name? : Are latin cultures like Colombia really so machista?

Well anyone who has really studied Racism KNows that multiculturalism doesn't work. Proximity, you see, does not necessarily lead to understanding. Better to live in cultures to learn about them. But I feel sorry for me of your generation: having watched your mothers slave for emotionally distant fathers, they grew up and found that the world had completely changed. And of course, because the male-dominated world is bitchy and competitive, when women entered it they had to be "equally" bitchy and competitive: without using the old imagination and rooting out the dog-eat-dog nastiness of the world of world (just my opinion).

To your dislike of feminism : I always find it helps to understand WHY women are feminists. I don't believe that feminism is the answer. I think something else is the answer, older and deeper and outside of time itself - but I understand - intimately - why women want to be feminists. Anyone who has walked into a burns unit in an Indian hospital can see it. Feminists - types of them - got me the right to vote and enter my chosen profession, got me the same pay as men for equal work - and exposed hypocrisy and lies. For that I am grateful.

But I also wear make up, like pretty clothes, believe in loving (yes, and serving) my man, and making him king of my heart. Nothing would induce me to abort his child, even if we parted. And yeah, I will probably give in and change my name - love is all about compromise anyway. At such, a real die-hard feminist would role her eyes in horror. Believe me, as an articulate woman, I have had far more hate-speach from militant leftist and feminists than from you guys.

All reactions are reactions to forms of injustice. If feminists are monsters, it was men who played Dr Frankenstein by acts of injustice.

CaritadeAngel comments on What's in a name? : Are latin cultures like Colombia really so machista?

Yes, thats actually true, how lovely to be in agreement with you We might even end up friends, Gringoloid.

But then why all the hate-posts about American women? Essentially, its your own culture and cultural values that you don't like. And while there is plenty to disparage about American culture, there is also the good stuff too: the men are much politer to women (the educated ones anyway) than your average Brit, they are lovers of freedom, justices, enterprise and democracy, and Americans are a brave, generous and open hearted people. Fair is fair.

We are all products of our culture, unless we are "corrupted" by others lol, like me. Some things of me are Asian or Latin American, and don't match the typical Scottish girl. The trick is not to blame the women from your culture: for they are merely the female counterparts of yourselves. And I'd eat my own hair than date a bitchy, dissing, money-obsessed, looks-obsessed guy. I'm all for changing cultural paradigms.

My man actually believes in the complete equality between men and women in a marriage, I go along more with St Paul, and Jorge. But the point of course is not my angst on getting married (though I have to say I'm looking forward to BEING married more than getting married). My point is that every culture has its machista, and that its perhaps not so fair to continually point the figure at Colombia in that regard. In some aspects, Colombia is much more egalitarian.

CaritadeAngel comments on What's in a name? : Are latin cultures like Colombia really so machista?

Only cos you don't understand when they are being bitchy :D
I find North American men fragile under their tough exterior. Latin men have a strength that runs through them all the way to the core. They tend to be straighter talkers too - but then I understand machista in both English and Spanish. You can negotiate with a tough straight talker, harder with a fragile guy. Of course, this is why many women prefer latin men. Of course we are speaking of generalisations. Every man is different. As is every woman. And we are differnent things to different people. My love, gringoloid, is the only man on this earth who can shut me up with just a look. My sis asked "do you let him win arguments?" and when I said yes, she said "marry him!" So I am.

My fiance is 47 - some 20 years older than me. I don't think him weird or gay , until now, he never found the right girl.

Men have more time than women, some girls forget that. If I waited until I was 38 for marriage and kids - well, goodbye any hope for a family. I think you'll find that guys just have more time than women, but only about 20 years more. So be careful there.

I only think its weird when a man will not risk anything for love. Which can happen at any age.

CaritadeAngel comments on What's in a name? : Are latin cultures like Colombia really so machista?

Hey Jorge Thanks for that. Actually I think every country has its own special brand of machismo, I find the latin kind the easiest to deal with and the North American kind the hardest.

Yes, I'm already familiar with the Bible passages you mention: (better be careful what I say because I normally stay away from politics and religion here on PBH, my views on sex tourism being what they are, my detractors here will, in no time, drop their usual cries of "communist" "feminist" and "man-hater" to "consversative religious fundamentalist" without even skipping a beat.

The trouble is that I can see is that my love is from a different religion ... kind of a tough decision, but he's the best fit for me so far. Sure he's worth it. That doesn't mean that I don't fear the loss of identity.

But that's just the thing: Colombia for all its macho reputation, doesn't have the tradition of associating a woman by her man. Some things are just easier here.

Aji Colombia isn't like Thailand because most foreigners (not just north Americans) think its unsafe. As the safety situation improves, so the sex-tourism will increase. So if Colombia is not like Thailand now, the only reason is because of security. When it gets safer then what? Another friggin Thailand, closer to the USA, easier to get down for a long weekend.

And as for aggression, I advise you to read the posts of the many dogs and players here (who are much more muted now than before, and compare and contrast. Especially regarding constancy and logic. A woman who stands up for what she believes is always called aggressive. In men, its called assertive. Or even normal. Go figure.

Cayita, my views on sex tourism are not confined to North American men. Colombia isn't my country. The men act as the will here. But foreigners here are a different matter. I CAN and will, call them on it. The greatest evils happen because they don't think about the consequences of their actions.

Bad spanish, great voice. It even got applause one time from a group of three viejos: pass masters at piropo throwing. Taken in good spirits, its fun.

LOchdhu is right about the kilt. Except where I come from, we don't ask. We just go right ahead and check.

Hi Aji There are some PBHers who have actually met me here - PM Shifty or Elmo, or even Tompower, who has dropped this theme like hot brick.

I think my views on prostitution and foreign tourists have been well rehearsed, you know what they are, I won't rehash them, suffice to say that just because the locals do it doesn't mean its ok for you, and I don't want to see my Colombia querida turn into another Thailand.

Penis Envy? That's a new one. Cheers. Would love to know the logic behind that. But for that, you'll have to take it outside.

Holy Grail Eyes open, but I agree with Proud: learn some Spanish, come down, he that never risked for love, has never lived.

About the kids I'm totally fine with the kids having his name (or both our names) they'll be a product of our love and anyway, I love his name. But it's just not mine, that's all. I prefer the Colombian way.

I see your point ... But I'm not angry. Just seeing who's a coward around here. I just want to encourage real discussion, not mudslinging, and if you want to debate with me about things not related to Colombia, you are welcome but we do it off the board, but not out of the public eye.

They write and say they want a debate (after writing nasty stuff).

I predict that no one will be sending any more challenges or hate mail though, and this is my ultimate goal. (There IS method in my madness). Virtually speaking, I got slapped with a glove yesterday by PM, with an I challenge you to a duel. Sometimes, the best way to meet that sort of thing is with an "all right then, but I choose the time and the place. Come on. I'm ready for you. Pistols at dawn."

You know what? Not a peep out of him so far. Fine by me.

Well thats the thing, why is it so important?
Need my ID (passport etc) to match my docs ...I could of course, women do. But then why can't I just be Mrs Jones socially and keep my own for legal and professional reasons?

But that's not the main reason: its the fact that Mrs "Jones"is a complete stranger. I have never contemplated, ever, changing my name. When my sis changed hers at marriage, even her husband was surprised. My fiancé is North American. I sometimes think that for all that new world progressiveness, in some aspects of the culture N Americans are more traditional than Brits.
