College girls..

Do only the girls with money attend college/university in Colombia or do some of the girls from poorer families attend as well? I'm chatting with a college girl and was just pondering this thought....

My month in Colombia

Well, much to the surprise of my acquaintances, I survived one month in Colombia. I swear, they had a pool going around betting on how many days it would be before I got killed.
During my time in Colombia, I rode horses twice and chased down a horse that got away from another rider. That was a blast!!! They all assumed I knew how to ride because I am from Texas. I'm no cowboy but I can handle a horse.
Later, I repelled down 3 waterfalls on a 3 hour tour. That was my first exp ...

Week 1 in Colombia

Well, I have survived my first week in Colombia. I´m sure my friends back home thought I´d be dead by now! Outside of losing my camera in Bogota the first day, my viaje has been a blast!!! On Sunday, my Colombiana and I went to the pueblita de San Jose. On the way up the mountain, she got to sit on top of the Jeep Willys on the luggage rack (got photos and video of that) and on the way back we were 2 of 13 people loaded onto another Jeep. I, of course, was standing on the back bumper holding o ...

I'll be in Colombia Sunday night!

Well, I just wanted to take a moment to say "Thanks" to all of you who have shared your comments, advice, and knowledge with me.

I will put a plastic tie on my suitcase zippers.
I will make a copy of my passport and laminate it to carry with me at all times.
I will not carry cameras in sight at all times.
I will be prepared to pay a guard at an airport for his service.
I will not worry about the price of my ticket and enjoy myself.
I will most c ...

What is "otun?"

I've read several times about "La perla de otun" and "Otun Lagoon." I've asked my colombiana, my spanish speaking friend, looked up the word in my translator and paperback dictionary, and even done a search on this website. What does "otun" mean in english? ...

Pereira?

Anyone know of anything for the month of June in Pereira? Small and cheap but safe (of course!) And, no, I do not want to share a room or house with anyone. Thanks...

What exactly is a "strata?"

I figure it's kind of like a status ranking but how do you know if you're a 1, 2 ,3, 4, or 5? Just curious as I see it mentioned in quite a few threads...Thanks...

Luggage size

I just received my tickets in the mail for my trip to Colombia. The travel agency sent a few regulations or tips or FYI's, whatever you wish to call them. It is stated that I may have a maximum of 2 suitcases, each suitcase must not weigh more than 50 lbs., and cannot exceed a 62 inch perimeter. Is this true? Has anyone ever had difficulty because their luggage exceeds a 62 inch perimeter? My suitcase has about a 96 inch perimeter. Would they really refuse to load it? Is carry-on luggage conside ...

I took the plunge....

Well, for better or worse, I have purchased my ticket and am officially going to Colombia this summer. As long as ticket prices go up, I'm going to feel good about this. If prices plummet, I'm going to be sick!!! Actually, I'm pretty darn excited about the trip. You folks have shared information and advice that has made me feel comfortable about this trip. Thanks!!! ...

Fuel and ticket prices

Ok, guys, here's the dilemma. I want to buy my ticket to colombia but gas prices are driving the cost of the tickets up. Do we anticipate gas prices (and ticket prices) dropping again or should I buy now and pay more than I would have last week but less than I will in the future? What are your thoughts? ...

Posting a video

Can someone refresh my memory on how to post a video? The directions were in one of the millions of posts I've read the past 2 weeks, but I cannot remember how to post a video...Thanks...

How about Juan Montoya!!!

How about our Colombian NASCAR driver, Juan Montoya? He finished a hard fought 5th today at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Not bad for his 4th start this year. He just might become a factor in the next few years. Just thought I'd share that with you guys.... ...

English in Colombia

I've pretty much made up my mind I'm going to Colombia this summer for about 5 weeks. I've got a friend I've been chatting with on the internet for about 2 years now. She speaks very little English and I speak little Spanish. I need to work on vocabulary, which comes through usage. My question is, are there many English speakers in Colombia? (Manizales/Pereira mainly) I know she can do the talking for me but I'd like to work on my Spanish and learn a lot more. I was just curious about the number ...

Colombia travel in Summer 2007

From the posts I've read, some of you are quite knowledgeable about Colombia. I've been chatting with a friend in Manizales/Pereira for almost 2 years now. I'd like to spend some time visiting my friend this summer but I seem to be reading about the dangers of traveling to Colombia. What are your thoughts and/or insights on these latest warnings about travel to Colombia and the decision to visit (or not visit) these cities in Colombia? Personally, I think it will be safe with my personal guia bu ...
