CaptainHowdy comments on This beautiful Paisa is the next miss Colombia ;-)

LOL...funny pic, Colombian Gringo...but you sure that's a girl??? :)

CaptainHowdy comments on TomTom you´ll like this one...

mathamatian!!!!! Is that a dalmation that does math!!???? LOL...

CaptainHowdy comments on When a Gringo comes a courtin'

Maybe old news for some but new to others...The video is worth a smile and chuckle. And, sadly, I'm sure it's a bit true in some cases. I don't know how you learn to conjugate without spanish classes. Once I got my base knowledge, the rest has been learned through conversation and using what I learned in class. Kudos to anyone who can learn without instruction...or is that the easier way? It did irk me when the dude in the video said "bano" using the "a" sound as in the word "hand" and not the "a" sound from "ahhh.". Maybe in his one semester of spanish the teacher didn't correct him...:)

CaptainHowdy comments on This beautiful Paisa is the next miss Colombia ;-)

Yeah..post some more pics...they are nice...any pics of girls a bit younger????

CaptainHowdy comments on This beautiful Paisa is the next miss Colombia ;-)

Did you see her breasts in the bikini? Way too large and out of proportion...possibly/probably fake??? Which is it? Anyway, give me an A or B cup any day...but, yes, in the face, very attractive...

CaptainHowdy comments on Colombian Love Language Email Etiquette

Bruja...LOL...I have a spanish/mexican/latina/hispanic/tejano friend (circle your word of choice) whose name is Deborah but I always call her Debruja...It sounds "nearly" the same!!! Not a bad joke for a gringo to come up with...

CaptainHowdy comments on Colombian Love Language Email Etiquette

Too late...already perverted before I started chatting here...and, by the way, you say that like its a bad thing!!!! :)

CaptainHowdy comments on College girls..

Well, my friend is going to the universidad in Cartagena. I'll have to ask her which one.. Good responses, folks..thanks..

CaptainHowdy comments on Colombian Love Language Email Etiquette

This is a funny thread..I have a colombiana friend I've been chatting with for over 2 years...and I visited her this past summer...I'm going to tell her "que culito tan rico que tienes mamita !" next time I chat with her...I can't wait to hear her response!!! jajaja Hell, I may even sign off by saying "un pico" and see what she says to that. ... Frog...la rana or el sapo..which is better?

CaptainHowdy comments on A picture is worth a thousand words.

Ahhh..Entiendo.....pero prefiero tener una madre muy pobre que puedo visitar cuando quiero. Creo que es mas facil....Pero, solo es mi fantasia....mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

CaptainHowdy comments on A picture is worth a thousand words.

Hey, I like a nice, sweet, young, tasty, fresh piece of meat but I just cannot justify paying for a girl. And, besides, I would wonder too much about what's lurking deep inside of her where I can't see...How do you decide that you're finally going to pay for a slut?

CaptainHowdy comments on Nice guy and Colombian Girls

Aw, c'mon, Robi...push the envelope...Don't be bashful!!! :)

CaptainHowdy comments on Nice guy and Colombian Girls

This says it all: FIVE RULES FOR MEN TO FOLLOW TO A HAPPY LIFE: 1. It's important to have a woman, who helps at home, who cooks from time to time, cleans up and has a job. 2. It's important to have a woman, who can make you laugh. 3. It's important to have a woman, who you can trust and who doesn't lie to you. 4. It's important to have a woman, who is good in bed and who likes to be with you. 5. It's very, very important that these four women do not know each other.

CaptainHowdy comments on What is the availability of HDTV in Cartagena....?

I notice you're all talking about DirecTV...what about Dish Network? Is that an option or not? The HDTV picture is quite clear but I'm satisfied with the regular pic and saving a few bucks. And I understand the importance of getting the NFL to maintain a normalcy to one's life... :)

CaptainHowdy comments on Marrying a Cloumbian

The female dolls don't look so bad but their breasts are about 3 times too big!! They're disproportionate...

CaptainHowdy comments on Full 80´s Bar

So, who owns this 80's bar? Gringos? It's still a cool idea...

CaptainHowdy comments on

Many, many gringos do not speak English very well. Their understanding of homonyms is atrocious at best. "Your" and "You're" is one of the worst along with "their," "there," and "they're." What makes this so sad is that these are on about a 3rd grade level and all of them are easily learned. People just don't want to admit they don't know something. It's that arrogance and pride that looms so large these days. I can understand why Colombians don't know the language fluently....I know Spanish is a booger to learn fluently if you don't have the opportunity to speak it on a regular basis...

CaptainHowdy comments on Full 80´s Bar

I have a friend going to Bogota in December...I told him to visit the Full 80's bar...That's his generation. Even if you're not from the 80's, you have to admit the music was pretty cool...I'd go there if were in Bogota...

CaptainHowdy comments on Marrying a Cloumbian

Well, La Mona, if you want billyb to overlook your "biscuit" instead of "cake", I would think you'd be as forgiving as shovelhead for his simple, but extremely common, misspelling of Colombia...:) Someone just give the dude an amount...It said it's his first post and he's getting a baptism by fire!!! Let's help the dude, folks...I have no idea how much it would cost or I would give him a civil answer... Have a good weekend!!!

CaptainHowdy comments on Sorry Colombia. Mexico named as best place in the world to retire...

Prepagos??? These are retirees we're talking about...Do retirees have regular encounters with prepagos? Is that a consideration once entertains thoughts about when retiring? Honestly...I don't know...But it's a GREAT reason for tourists to go to Colombia...Not me, but regular Joes.

CaptainHowdy comments on Whats the name of that website with the pics of the girls from baracamanga?

I like Manizales...I went there this past summer...I went to Parque Yarumos y took a 3 hour hike that included repelling down 2 small waterfalls. All that for 15,000 COP. I also took a trip on a zip line above the trees. That was pretty cool... I think maybe the girls in Manizales are pretty simple, which is what I want. I need someone who will appreciate the few things I can give her. My friend is from Manizales and hopefully I can find someone like her... I visit www.colombiancupido.com and have contacted the agency with a few questions but, a week later, I haven't received a reply. Makes me wonder.......

CaptainHowdy comments on Anyone know the current state of wi-fi availability in Cartagena?

Wi-fi..I see it everywhere...Just exactly what does "wi-fi" stand for? I know "wi" stands for "wireless," but what does "fi" stand for? These are the kinds of thoughts that go through my head...You gotta wonder.....

CaptainHowdy comments on No need to travel all the way to Colombia for companionship.

Su su sudio....That's the recipe for writing an award winning song using 5 words or less!

CaptainHowdy comments on Whats the name of that website with the pics of the girls from baracamanga?

Ok..while we're on the subject...About 4 months ago, I read on here about the Colombianas. It was something to the effect that the girls in Cali, Cartagena, and Medellin were somewhat spoiled and/or materialistic. Bogota girls were...something....and, Barranquilla girls were the ugliest...(just repeating what I read.) What about the girls in Manizales? How are they? Any general trait amongst them? Anyone know what I'm talking about? Thanks...

CaptainHowdy comments on Ten Reasons Why You Should Learn Spanish

Hey, don't knock the China.. They're the world's leader producer of....Chinese people!!! jajaja

CaptainHowdy comments on Been in Venezuela for a month now, and still can't get Colombia off my mind...

Yes, that's how teaching is SUPPOSED to be...You know, as much as we'd like to strangle the undisciplined, disrespectful student, it's their parents that need strangling for allowing their child to become this way...If you've found students that are motivated, well "Congratulations," my friend...Enjoy!!! :)

CaptainHowdy comments on Been in Venezuela for a month now, and still can't get Colombia off my mind...

I thought about teaching in Colombia, too. I spoke with the director of a bilingual school outside of Pereira and I was told I could teach the classes in English (not English classes) and the pay would be about 1.3 million COP per month. That would set me up for about the same standard of living I have here. Not bad but I still need to learn Spanish fluently before I relocate..

CaptainHowdy comments on Been in Venezuela for a month now, and still can't get Colombia off my mind...

Darn, Critter...I would have at least given her a test run or two before telling her "No!!" You wouldn't be out anything and you'd have another experience to share!!! And, I completely agree with you on not doing pre or post pagos...That's some scary stuff in my book...

CaptainHowdy comments on Moment of silence for the murdered diputados

My Colombiana sent me photos from the Plaza across the street where she works...Lots of white shirts...

CaptainHowdy comments on Why don't gringos learn Spanish?

Is sign language considered a foreign language? About 10 years ago when I was in college, a classmate wanted to take sign language as a foreign language but sign language was not classified as a foreign language. Personally, I think it has all the merits of being a foreign language and should be classified as such. Granted, it is spoken using the hands and not the voice, but if you don't know the language, then it's foreign to you. That sounds to me like the makings of a foreign language.
I'm in my third week here in Colombia and it really irks me that I cannot understand the Colombians any better now than I could on my first day! I can still pick out the words I know but the rest is just rubbish. Any helpful hints on how to listen more effectively? Maybe I just need a larger vocabulary...
I live in Texas and I feel it should be mandatory that Spanish be taught starting in the first grade. There's no justifiable reason for it not to be taught. I teach in a school that is about 70% Mexican/Hispanic/Latino/Spanish (circle the correct word) and at least 80% of my students know even less Spanish than I do. How can they not know Spanish??? This is a small, rural farm community and I know their parents know Spanish. Hey, if there are 3 major sports (NFL,NBA, and MLB) then there can be at least 2 major languages!

CaptainHowdy comments on Why don't gringos learn Spanish?

Delete all non-spanish posts??? Darn, elrey, are you trying to shut down this site???
I´m still currently on vacation in Colombia and it´s a blast. I´m trying like hell to improve on my Spanish and I´m learning a few new words and phrases. To learn a new language, you´ve got to live it. Remember, you didn´t learn English by studying English. You learned English by using English! The problem for me is, however, that I don´t have a way of speaking spanish on a daily basis in the states. I live in a small town and the nearest 4 yr university is an hour away. I could take some conversational spanish classes there if it weren´t so darn far away. I guarantee that if I lived in Colombia for a year or more, I´d be able to communicate really well. Understanding what the other person is saying may be a different story. I cannot understand much of anything. Maybe it´s because others are using words I don´t know or maybe I´m just not used to the accent. However, I would love to learn spanish fluently but just don´t have the means as of yet. Maybe someday....

CaptainHowdy comments on Week 1 in Colombia

Ya think!!! LOL Yes, the Chiva would need some good weight on the other side if that were me, but, luckily, it´s not me!!! It is a good picture, though!!! LOL No, I¨m more like 6´1¨ and a lean 180 lbs now. I swear, I feel as though I have lost some weight. Has anyone else experienced weight loss during their trip to Colombia. The good news is I´m not losing weight because I´m sick! In Mexico last year, every time I went to the bathroom, I´d take off my leather belt, put it in my mouth, and bite down to keep from screaming! I saw this tactic used once in an old western when an Indian girl was giving birth. I´d say my pain was comparable to hers!!! Anyway....
The trip to the coffee finca went only to the 6 or so bedroom house he is remodeling extensively. We made a few other stops for food and to visit his friends but I´m going to go back next week and hopefully see the coffee plants.
For those of you who suggested teyo, I think I´m going to play Monday. All I know about it is that you chunk a rock. Can someone explain it more extensively, please?
Ok, for you guys who live or have lived or will live in Colombia, do you all speak Spanish fluently? If not, how did you get around this obstacle? I´m comfortable walking around but I´m finding it impossible to communicate because I can´t understand what anyone is saying to me. I´m able to express myself fairly well but understanding someone else is a whole other ball of wax.
I did go to the bilingual school and was given a tour of the school by the 15 yr old daughter of the abogada I know. Later, the abogada said the daughter was ¨te ha encantado!¨I found that a bit humorous! Later, I talked with the director and I´m going back Tuesday to spend the whole day in the classroom speaking English with the students. That should be memorable.
The director also said that I could get a job there and earn 1,300,000 per month. I´d be teaching the classes in English. I think I could handle that but I´m not staying here...yet. I´d like to buy a little land in the mountains, buy a Jeep, and get a few head of cattle. In the aguagracia area, the land is too expensive so I´ll have to look elsewhere.
Well, the chiva ride is this weekend along with fishing and riding horses. I should have some more stories to share come next week.
Oh, one guy wants me to drive his friend´s car from about 30 minutes outside to Pereira into town because both of their licenses have been revoked or something like that. That, my friends, sounds like an adventure I´m going to pass on. Wrecking my vehicle would be one thing but to wreck another person´s vehicle in Colombia is NOT something I want to experience. Would any of you guys take that chance?
Well, that´s how it was on the 8th of June, 2007. I´m signing off now, live from Colombia!!!

CaptainHowdy comments on Week 1 in Colombia

Coffee finca Well, it just keeps getting better. The owner of the small hotel also has a coffee farm. He lived in Houston for 10 years so he speaks English and he asked me if I would like to visit his coffee farm with him. Well, hell, yeah, I do!!! I'm going to be armed with a digital camera and a video camera. Boy, are these going to be some cool photos and videos to remember my viaje!
I'm going Wednesday afternoon to speak English in a colegio. The abogada that works with my Colombiana has 2 daughters and arranged it for me to spend some time sharing my English skills. Since it is a colegio, the students should be somewhat advanced. That will be yet another aventura!!!
My Colombiana says que tejo es muy bueno y vamos a jugar este fin de semana in Manizales.
I still wish I could speak Spanish fluently or at least more fluently.
What do you guys think of bufalo? Think he'd be safe to meet up with?
Well, that's the way it was on June 5, 2007. I´m signing off now, live from Colombia.

CaptainHowdy comments on Info on reporting sex crimes and exploitation of minors to DAS

I'll simplify! You made a joke about the people in the video being actors. I made a joke about them not being actors. That would be worse than putting this role on their acting resume. Agreed?

CaptainHowdy comments on I'll be in Colombia Sunday night!

No, thanks I think I'll pass on that. Anyhow, Pereira is just one of the 3 or 4 cities I'll be visiting. I'm going to be busier than a long tail cat in a room full of rockers!!!

CaptainHowdy comments on Light Up Boobies

Oh, heavens!!! You'd have to be waaaaaayyy down at the bottom of your shopping list to buy this for someone. It is pretty cool, but oh, heavens!!!! LOL

CaptainHowdy comments on Info on reporting sex crimes and exploitation of minors to DAS

Better yet, Rubito What if they WEREN'T actors!!!!!!!!

CaptainHowdy comments on Recent studies suggest that Colombia does not have Real Bilingual Schools

You're right! Not speaking English is not the "key" factor contributing to Colombia's general lack of tourism, but for those considering a trip to Colombia, it is yet another obstacle to overcome. They can eliminate obstacles one obstacle at a time. Remember, a journey of thousand miles begins with a single step!!! And Colombia has about a thousand miles to go to clean up its act and attract tourism. This could metaphorically be the first step.

CaptainHowdy comments on Recent studies suggest that Colombia does not have Real Bilingual Schools

Theoretically, you're right!! But, the legalization of cocaine and reefer is probably not going to come to fruition, so increasing the number of Colombians who speak English seems to be Plan B. It does seem as if it would be a step in the right direction towards increasing tourism. Since you can't force the learning of Spanish on the tourists, why not just learn English? How many times have we read on this site gringos ask what problems they're going to face because they know no or little Spanish? It's not a problem if Colombians learn English. Now, I'm not saying this is the solution to all the problems in Colombia, but it does seem to be a step in the right direction. Now, how they bring it all about is a whole other can of worms.....

CaptainHowdy comments on I'll be in Colombia Sunday night!

City? I'll be in Pereira.

CaptainHowdy comments on Info on reporting sex crimes and exploitation of minors to DAS

yeah...my bad.. We have a filter at school and I didn't even think about that preventing the videos from playing...sorry about that...

CaptainHowdy comments on Let's have a PBH beauty contest!!

Scary pic.. I had to wear a dress this year at school. I made a deal with the kids and they pulled it off. Some of them wanted me to shave my head but I said, "No way!" It would take months for my hair to grow back and I can get out of a dress in 1 day. This is actually the third time I've had to wear a dress. Boy, do the kids eat it up, too!!!

CaptainHowdy comments on I'll be in Colombia Sunday night!

Satanic??? Heck, it's just the name of a song by Twisted Sister! I just liked the name...I read the article from the web address in your post and, well, I never even saw the Exorcist...Thanks for sharing...

CaptainHowdy comments on I'll be in Colombia Sunday night!

Ha ha ha!!! Uh...no... I don't like coffee...sorry...

CaptainHowdy comments on Recent studies suggest that Colombia does not have Real Bilingual Schools

Bilinguismo Cool, Leeroy. Was it a good supplement? Worth posting? Tell us about it.

CaptainHowdy comments on Info on reporting sex crimes and exploitation of minors to DAS

Monpirri If you were trying to post videos, they didn't work...sorry...

CaptainHowdy comments on Colombian Chicas - Someone please explain!

I guess not!!!!! Hhmmmm....

CaptainHowdy comments on Info on reporting sex crimes and exploitation of minors to DAS

Sooo... If you're a sex tourist, this is one time that it's GOOD to be poor and bad to be wealthy. Boy, is THAT ever a reversal of roles!!!

CaptainHowdy comments on Info on reporting sex crimes and exploitation of minors to DAS

Not the poor dude? And, what about the poor dude who lives paycheck to paycheck? Do they just pretty much leave them alone??? It's all about money???
