calipro comments on What happened to the guy that used to post his grocery bill from Colombia?

http://www.virtualexito.com/HomeSupermercado.aspx Check the prices yourself.

calipro comments on What happened to the guy that used to post his grocery bill from Colombia?

The only guy that I remember posting his grocery bill online was PeteE and he is no longer with us.

calipro comments on marriage in Cali

azulvioleta That depends on what you think expensive is.....I'm not sure what she charges but I think 800K might cover everything and it's fast service. You can be married in a day or two.

calipro comments on Personal GPS

I'm surprised your girlfriend even knows what a GPS device is since none of them work in Colombia.

calipro comments on marriage in Cali

Call this lawyer in Cali. Deyanira Llanos Munoz 665-0881 o 310-831-5682 Just have your boyfriend bring his passport and birth certificate and you the same. She'll take care of everything, including the civil ceremony and the notory.

calipro comments on Money Transfer from Colombia to the US

viejor123 Let me know if you are having trouble getting your money out of the country. I might be in the market to buy a large quantity of pesos if the exchange rate is favoralbe.

calipro comments on

NO !!! I WON'T ALERT EITHER YOU OR DAS !!!! SINCE WHEN IS IT A CRIME TO BE GAY !!!!! LOL !!!

calipro comments on Living together a taboo in Colomia?

Thanks for the wake up call Cerealkiller !!!! Because I forgot that there are some guys that would actually buy a ring or move in with a women that hadn't let them try it out. LOL !!!

calipro comments on ¿ Es seguro llevar una cámara Canon EOS 5D a Medellín?

medallolimo Safety is a relative thing. How do you know the poster isn't an old woman or man. I recently took my grandmother to a Mall here in Phoenix AZ. I got a little to far ahead of her because she walks so damn slow. When I turned around two teenage punks almost had her purse before I jumped back and they ran off.

calipro comments on ADVISE ON LIVING AND BUYING A HOUSE IN CALI COLOMBIA

Russell Etherington Let me know when you are going to be back down in Cali. I own an apartment there. If I were you I would decide which type of visa I was going to ask for so you can live in Cali and get a cedula which will make it a lot easier to do business and get a bank account. Take care

calipro comments on Apostilles, References, Translations and Certificate of Singlness Samples...

GregYohn I know a lawyer in Cali that can get you married with nothing more than your passport. However it is a bit cheaper if you can also come up with at least a birth certificate.

calipro comments on Proof of Marriage

I solved the problem by taking my colombian wife's passport with me back to the states. This may not be the most legal way of doing it. My tax preparer was certified to authenticate foreign documents by the IRS. He simply looked at my wife's colombian passport and signed an authorization to get my wife a TIN. One other thing, you can't even request a TIN untill you file your joint return. That is a request for the TIN must be accompanied by a joint return filed with the IRS.

calipro comments on Where's Your Creamer Juan?

Juan Valdez isn't like StarBucks where you take you coffee and put the cream in it your self. If you want cream in your coffee, just ask for it when ordering and they will gladly put it in for you. However if you insist on powdered creamer you better bring it along.

calipro comments on Leaving mid-way through flight question for airport experts

If it is the same carrier they will definately cancel your return flight.

calipro comments on Driver's license

elk I could have bought a license for 100,000 cop. But if it is not properly registered it will do you no good if a cop runs the license number.

calipro comments on Travel with Colombian Girl friend?

That is true a colombiana travelling alone will need at $500 US on her to enter the country. Ten years ago a colombian could get a Mexican visa simply by paying a fee of $1000 at the mexican consulate. I have no idea what it costs now. My colombian wife got a tourist visa for mexico and it didn't cost her a dime but I believe that was because she has a green card.

calipro comments on Driver's license

I went through the trouble of getting a Colombian driver's license here in Cali simply because I thought it would be necessary to get Colombian auto insurance. But now I'm not so sure.

calipro comments on Debt... Can they track me down in Colombia?

I knew a guy that had a million dollar civil judgement against him in the States and lived very comfortably in Cali. U.S. civil judgements are virtually unenforcable in Colombia.

calipro comments on Local Safety Issues Central Colombia

LOL !!! Thanks for the post lampltr and take it easy on the booze. hehehe !! Like I always say: F...k the FARC !!! It's the crazy ass gringos you should be worried about. LOL !!!

calipro comments on The two types of "permissions" to import your vehicle....

Doesn't sound very practical to bring a car to Cali this way. I'd hate to have to drive it all the way to Cucuta every six months just to get it across the border and back.

calipro comments on Local Safety Issues Central Colombia

Lowell I don't think it is a peso thing.....the strenght of the colombian peso to the dollar has made alot of items much less expensive. Big screen TV's are waaaaay down from where they were six month ago in Cali.

calipro comments on Local Safety Issues Central Colombia

I love these alarming posts that are completely devoid of any useful information. Where does you wife live and what towns in the Valle de Cauca does she visit? What incidents are we talking about?

calipro comments on For Sale:Apartment in Cali (includes all furniture/appliances)

All the furniture in the photos is included plus all the appliances.

calipro comments on For Sale:Apartment in Cali (includes all furniture/appliances)

Robert Jorge The apartment rents for 150,000 per day, 1,750,000 for a 15 day stay and 3 million per month. I give a little bit of a break if they rent for 3 months or more. On average I clear 1,450,000 cop per month. The location is great for someone the wants to just walk out of the building and go a couple of blocks to some of the nicest restaurants cafes and clubs Cali has to offer. The building is super nice but the location is what sets in apart for everything else. The reason I'm selling is because I want a bigger place. Here is a link to some photos of the building and apartment: http://www.flickr.com/photos/11806108 at N03/ The building has it's own electrical generator so you don't have to worry about being without power when the lights go out in Cali. Also included in the price are one garaged parking spot and a private storage space in the basement.

calipro comments on Colombian Peso Fixed Deposits - Why bother?

????? I don't know how you could possibly take a loss converting colombian pesos to dollars after holding your money in colombian pesos over the past year. I'm making 20% by sending pesos back to the states that I purchased when the dollar was worth 2400 cop.

calipro comments on Custom Tax at Airport

I'd be more concerned about the over-sized and excess baggage fees the airlines might charge then the taxes. The prices of new LCD and plasma TV's have gone waaaaay down in Cali over the last six months. Might have something to do with the relative strength of the Colombian peso against the U.S. dollar....But it doesn't seem really worth while to bring a big screen into Colombia anymore. JJ logistics might be a good option....with your paid airline ticket you can get a very low unaccompanied luggage rate.

calipro comments on Is this a reason to move to Colombia?

SiV is correct. If you don't have money or good health insurance in Colombia they will let you die in the street or worst take you to a cheap hospital! If you have money and or good health insurance the level of care you will recieve is very high and relatively cheap compared to the States.

calipro comments on Luxury Apartment for rent in Cali (Barrio Granada)

RUV It is a one bedroom one and a half bath apartment. It goes for 150,000 cop per night, 1.8 million for a 15 day stay or 3 million per month. It has high speed internet and a Vonage phone line so you can make unlimited calls to the U.S.

calipro comments on

World concensus???? It's a law in Colombia. hehehe !!!

calipro comments on

It's a cultural thing. YOU DON'T TURN DOWN GIFTS !!!!! They wouldn't even if they don't like you and it cost thousands.

calipro comments on Ferias in Cali and Manizales

elmo I guess I haven't learned my lesson yet.....I'm still messing around with them thar colombianas. jijij I'd keep my eyes on my wallet but it rarely has any real money it. I just thank god that when I had a few bucks I bought that apartment in Cali because the calenas still haven't figured out a way to steal it. LOL !!!

calipro comments on Regarding selling property in Colombia

"This is all correct. What you bring into the marriage is yours, including your debt. What you accumulate during the marriage is communal property as it should be. Unless you have a prenup. If you do not have a prenup then you are a fool and deserve what you get." Take it easy Rikito... Remember....It's not money that matters BUT the journey. jijijiji

calipro comments on Colombian Women....why so serious, so quickly?

Chelesupercono Your experiances with Colombianas has been very different than mine. As in the vast majority are willing to get romantic before a serious commitment is made. Just curious.....what city did you meet these women in? Leeroy says on Friday September 28th, 2007 17:51: "I have not seen many of the casual "we're sort of friends but we have sex occasionally" type relationships here. In fact, I have not seen any." Leeroy haven't you ever heard of the term "amigos con derechos"? There are plenty of "we are friends but we have sex occasionally type relationships here". hehehe !!! lfsr1544 Haven't you been reading Elmo's posts? All colombianas love pasty white gringos. jijiji

calipro comments on When you send out the initial packet for k1 visa ,and if you are refused ,do you get your 455$ back?

My advice is if $455 seems like a lot of money don't fill out the packet. By the time your financee gets here you will have spent a min. of 20 grand.

calipro comments on Renew Spousal Visa

Lowell I'm not the only one that has opened a bank account with a cedula extranjeria. What city are you in?

calipro comments on Renew Spousal Visa

Well, when I got my bank account it was Conavi but BanColombia has since bought them out. If you are living in Cali, I'd try the branch in the back of Chipichape.

calipro comments on Renew Spousal Visa

I just got my visa renewed at MRE. All I needed was certified copy of our colombian marriage certificate and a letter from her saying that she wanted me to stay in Colombia with her. She accompanied me to the MRE so the statement didn't have to be notorized but if you are going without your wife it will need to be. It took five hours of waiting to get the visa. Lowell I have a cedula extrajeria and I opened a bank account a couple of years ago.

calipro comments on

"To me the only logical answer is that in Bogota well-off people have something to fear and that something is of much greater magnitude than in North America. Otherwise, people would not impison themselves! Simply because it's pretty depressing for any sane person, not to mention ugly and inconvenient. Come on, who in their right mind keep a guard under their bedroom window unless there was a very good reason for it? So by just looking at fences and security guards all over North Bogota I've come to the inevitable conclusion that it's pretty damn dangerous and much more so than in LA, New York, Toronto or Chicago. Someone who doesn't see something as obvious is in denial." I don't think you or anyone else here is in denial. It's not all that easy sometimes to see the big picture. There is a much lighter police presence in Colombian cities compared to U.S. cities and they are much, much less proactive about stopping crimes before they happen. But don't let that lull you into thinking that Colombian cities are the safest on earth. hehehe !!! Security tends to be a private matter in Colombia. Bars on windows and private armed guards are just a reminder that you have virtually no police protection. All things considered I find Colombia incredibly safe. I can't even imagine a U.S. city with a many poor people as say Bogota with as few police. Now that would be one hell of a dangerous place. hehehe !!!

calipro comments on

I spend most of my time in Cali and when I go to Bogota it seems like a different country not just a different city. I have spent more time in Bogota over the last two years then last ten years before that combined. My wife has family there so I'm obligated to go. I sum up Bogota like this: The wheather sucks and the women are the least friendly and least attractive that I have seen in all of Colombia. I can't say that I have seen any crime in Bogota but my wife's family lives in a good barrio in the north of the city. They have cars so we rarely even take a taxi. I hear the poorer barrios are in the south but why go? I've lived in Phoenix AZ twenty years and never went to south Phoenix. I can't even say that I've seen a panhandler here. But then again we hang out around Parque 93 , the zona rosa and zona T. I ate in two very nice restuarants Salto de Angela infront of parque 93 and 1482 in the zona T. I don't recommend going to Bogota and it has nothing to do with a fear of street crime. The women are so cold there that I actually have flashbacks of living in the States. hehehe !!!

calipro comments on Colombian girlfriend, should I be suspicious

I don't think anyone can stop you from leaving the country for knocking up your girlfriend. The bigger question is do you want her to have one of your kids. I was shocked when a colombiana tried to take my condom off during intercourse. I don't know what her problem was but I never did that again. My wife says she doesn't want ahy children at the moment but she uses no birth control and I never use a condom with her. I think colombianas put a lot of faith in god or got brainwashed in the Catholic Church.

calipro comments on Moving to Colombia

DAS won't give you a tourist visa for six months right off the bat. When you enter the country they'll probably give you 60 days and then you'll have to renew it with DAS before it expires. You'll have to get married before your tourist visa expires and then you can take the marriage certificate along with a notorized statement from your colombian wife requesting the visa to MRE in Bogota. You'll also need a couple of passport type photos. Give them a call at 520-1146, 520-0729, 520-1041 or 502-0431 and ask them if you need anything else before you go down and wait in line.

calipro comments on No need to cancel properly in colombia?

Touching your arm means nothing in Colombia. If there was really a lot of chemistry she would have been practically laying on you. hehehe !!! If the woman was really interested in you she would have been waiting by the phone for your call just like women from every other country in the world.

calipro comments on How to register form #4 when depositing payments into constructor account

Are you depositing the money into a U.S. bank account? You will need the transaction number off of the deposit slips to fill out form 11.

calipro comments on Apartment for rent Cali (Barrio Granada)

Frank I think the building is between four and five years old. I bought my apartment 2 years ago and it was one of only a couple available.

calipro comments on Apartment for rent Cali (Barrio Granada)

Yes it is a one bedroom with one and a half bathes. I'm charging 125,000 cop per night, 1,500,000 cop for a fifteen day stay and 2,200,000 cop per month. If you want to stay 3 or more months we can negociate a price. The price includes maid service once a week to clean the apartment top to bottom but you can pay the building maids to clean the apartment whenever you want for 25,000 pesos. The apartment includes a fully stocked kitchen so you can cook for yourself and laundry service for only 10,000 pesos a load. All local phone calls are free. The best part about the apartment is that it is located on a hill in www.barriogranada.com Arthur brode You get 15% of the gross rent for the customers you bring me and there is a 3% surcharge for paying with a credit card to my paypal account.

calipro comments on Best cell phone from U.S. that works in Medellin?

Panthdave is right....the only U.S. cell service providers the use SIM cards is AT&T and T-Mobile....but you have to get the code to unlock the phone before you can use it in Colombia with a Comcel SIM card. -
