BushLawyer comments on Tipping the taxi dudes in Cali "So it is actually standard that it costs 32,000 pesos from the bridge to the airport? I thought when that happened the driver was trying to scam me". I've done this at least half a dozen times in as many months this year, and all cab drivers give the same answer when the question is asked, so I take it that that is indeed the official rule. And I could pass for a Colombiano if I had to, so I don't think they were all taking me for a ride because I'm a foreigner (figuratively speaking).

BushLawyer comments on Tipping the taxi dudes in Cali If you ask, the cab driver should confirm: From the airport to the bridge = 32,000 Pesos. From the bridge onward, the meter gets turned on and starts to tick. Depending on where you're going it could easily run you 40 to 45,000 Pesos.

BushLawyer comments on skype is expensive to call colombia I have both Skype and VoipStunt, the reason being that both have days that they work well, bad or in between. Does anyone have these same issues? I don't believe the problem is with my computer, since a lot of the time the quality is crystal clear whereas some of the time (the past week for example) I can hear the other party just fine but they can't hear me at all, so then I end up using traditional phones and paying about 4-5x the fee. And yes, generally speaking VoipStunt is cheaper than Skype.

BushLawyer comments on Married foreigner registering a new born baby in Colombia lpdriver: Sorry about the 'obvious' part. The college fund was done through an insurance program for which the mother signed up, that's paid for. The child support is arranged in my will should I kick the bucket before the child becomes of age. So, any ideas about how much paperwork the Notaria or Registraduria is going to require from me? Thanks
|
|
BushLawyer comments on Married foreigner registering a new born baby in Colombia lpdriver: the mother obviously wants the father to register the child together with her, to insure among other things that the child carries the father's last name, not so much about the child support since that's all okay, including college fund etc.

BushLawyer comments on Married foreigner registering a new born baby in Colombia See my edited post. I don't mean to be tiresome, but: My main question is if, by Colombian Law, when registering the child at the NOTARIA or REGISTRADURIA (not at the US Embassy), as a married man (not married to the infant's mother) I'm allowed to register as the child's father. And would they require proof of my civil / marital status at the Notaria or Registraduria, or would they be okay with some form of I.D. like my foreign passport? Any thoughts on this aspect of the issue?, would be most welcome. Thanks again to all, including William, Gator, GregYohn and Bufalo.

BushLawyer comments on Married foreigner registering a new born baby in Colombia Vicshere: Understood. I don't want to be bothersome, but I need to be absolutely clear on this: I take it that at the "NotarÃa" or the "RegistradurÃa" in Cali they will allow me to register the child despite the fact that I'm legally still married to someone else not being the Colombian mother of the child? That, for me, is the main issue. Thanks again, to dwmte7 as well..

BushLawyer comments on Married foreigner registering a new born baby in Colombia Vicshere: Married, but not to the Colombian mother of the baby, mind you. Can I still register the baby? So does the child get to carry my last name by virtue of me registering her, or does that happen by virtue of me legally acknowledging her as my child, or is it all considered to be the same (to register = to legally acknowledge?). In other words: can a married guy register or acknowledge a kid that was not born to his legal wife? Thanks again.

BushLawyer comments on What does it cost to study at a Colombian university? Hey guys, thanks for your input so far. I'm beginning to get a clearer picture. Obviously the kid doesn't know yet what profession she wants to chose, or what her parents can afford, but if she wanted to study medicine in Cali for example it seems affordable (ref. Adela). The insurance policy I'm looking at is speaking of an accumulated amount of about COP 50 million, which I guess should indeed cover a full University study. Anyhow, additional comments would certainly be appreciated, also on the topic of the insurance thing (my references so far: Delima Marsh, who apparently is the broker for Suramericana de Seguros ('EducacionSURA' / Renta Educativa) and Royal Sun Alliance. Thanks again.

BushLawyer comments on Budget hotel in Cartagena We just recently spent four days in Cartagena, we stayed at the Cartagena Plaza. I don't know the exact price of the room, as it was one of those package deals (tickets, hotel, meals), but my guess is we're talking about USD 50 per person per night. The hotel is clean and safe and the staff is very nice, that's for sure. By all means, the telephone number of the Cartagena Plaza is (5) 665.4000, and I believe it is located in Boca Grande. Good luck.

BushLawyer comments on Search: apts for sale in Cali purchase of apartment in cali To Snr Medellin-Londres. Thanks for the tip. However, I must say that we are almost married, it's just a matter of months. Besides, that aspect of the relationship (trust, I guess is what you would call it) is covered; this is not one of those wacky type situations that I'm forever reading about on this forum; we've been together for almost three years, I know what I'm into. We've been renting a home in Cali for some time now, I'm a regular visitor, we own a car in Cali, we have our home abroad, I'm okay with the family, etc. So, any information on the apartment itself? Thanks.

BushLawyer comments on Colombian music BushLawyer I agree, this is a wonderful song that just happens to have special meaning for me, we played it several times till late in the night on the day of my novia's graduation party in Cali earlier this month, with my novia impersonating J.Lo and a friend of hers impersonating Marc Anthony (we were all wasted, but I managed to record one of the sessions with the camcorder), wonderful wonderful memories. It's the kind of song that inspires one to want to just tie the knot with that special lady . . .
