Bunyipcatcher comments on Good Eating in MonterĂa? La Bonga del Sinu as Jack Jason mentioned will see you well. Try a nice mote de queso. Not sure if it is the same as the chain of restaurants they have here in Bogota though. I have eaten at the one here and has good food. If youre a bit more adventurous you can try the la plaza de mercado and try some of the fish. Gotta also do as PBHjon says and try some of the exotic juices. Remember to ask for your napa (a bit extra for free). Shouldnt be too hard to find a juice place there. If you go to Planeta Rica (about 45 mins from Monteria by car) There are a couple of juice places near the T intersection for Monteria opposite the servo on the main drag. Rocking chairs to relax away a warm arvo. There is also a restaurant there...whose name I cannot remember at this moment, opposite the Colanta milk factory. Has big steaks, bigger steaks. Enjoy your time there.

Bunyipcatcher comments on buying computer in Colombia I work everyday with my Dell Laptop here in Colombia. I bought it in Australia, and in the last couple of weeks the video card crapped its dacks. Dell Colombia replaced my screen first as they though that was the problem then the video card. Its still under warranty. No problems. If you are using it for business or work and need it running all the time, Id go Dell or Apple.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Proud Colombians? Ahh so there are some proud Colombians out there. But not currently living here by the looks of it. Lisa, Simon. I currently living here and have been for the last 4 years. The comment about the pigsty came from my father when we were trouncing around Planeta Rica looking for the Frenchmans farm. The people had taken it unto themselves to use the verges of the road as the local dump and were burning it off. My parents are here from Australia. For me the disappointment was when we took our kids down to the beach the first night we were in El Rodadero and my daughter was asking me what those shiny things in the water were. She thought they were fish, but no, glass bottles thrown into the water reflecting the lights from the shore. I dont believe Iam a Colombia basher. Iam just relating comments and sights we noticed whilst travelling around the traps. My Colombian wife agrees that there is a lack of education and the comments by Desideria summarise my feelings better than I could ever put into words. Also I find it quite funny that the families I have met keep their houses clean, but once they are out and about on the street its free game for leaving a mess or rubbish. Nothing can be done if the problem is ignored or too risque that some people might get upset about it.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Credit Card Problems Pedro, Not sure what Wizard Clear Advantage is, its been a long time since Ive been back to oz. Is there w webpage explaining what that is. Might be able to get it setup from oz before my next soiree around some other part of Colombia. The problem at the moment is only with my credit card. Iam going to try to do the groceries in Exito this arvo and see what happens. Thanks for the help mate

Bunyipcatcher comments on Credit Card Problems G'day ozgringo......The bank has told me that there is no restrictions on it and its been activated......I had been using it for the last 3 years or so with no problems....what a pain the proverbial. Bunyipcatcher comments on Well it gets even better today. Its not car day in Bogota. So the taxi drivers believe they are all related to Juan Pablo Montoya. Vroom, Vroom Vroom, and they are off and racing!!!

Bunyipcatcher comments on Breathing Room Ahhh Aussie Day! Not long now Cangura! Yup youre probably going a bit batty. I go that way too. Especially when I think of having a barbi with friends and doing some climbing at Kangaroo Point cliffs. What makes it worse is having to look at the mountains everyday and know that I cannot go out and try walking to the top of them. Its one thing we take for granted in Australia. The ability to walk freely without being accosted almost in any part without too much problem. As for your problems. You need privacy yes. You dont go through their things do you? I think the first point would be to talk to your partner about it and maybe have him as the go between. As some of the other posters have pointed out it seems a bit suspect. Alway remember when youre here "TRUST NOBODY!" Might also help to get some Spanish lessons whilst here.

Bunyipcatcher comments on HELP YEAH OF COURSE!!!!!!! Sorry to hear mate, Better that she is ok. GIB is right. My wife was in a car parked with her brothers girlfriend waiting for him to return near all the hairdressers between the Novena and the Septima with Calle 125 something. A man was walking along the footpath with a black bag, and two men approached to rob him. This just happened to coincide on the opposite side of the road inline with the car. The man resisted then had a gun pulled on him, they shot in the air and he still resisted. So then they shot him in the head. All the while my wife and the gf of her brother were hiding in the bottom of the car hoping they didnt come looking for witnesses. Life is cheap!

Bunyipcatcher comments on Driving instructor/school in English Noelito, Do you know how to drive already? If you do, just ignore everything you have ever learnt and do what you like. Things to look out for! 1) General driver lack of respect! 2) Manholes with no covers! 3) Drains with no covers! 4) Taxis! They will take that couple of car gap you left between you and the next car. 5) Buses! They will take that couple of car gap you didnt leave by trying to drive ontop of your car. All in all good luck with it. Its a real opener everyday.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Frustrating LOL! Its never ending. Heres a couple from the last couple of days.... Telephone guy comes to fix PBX in the office and now alarm system doesnt work. Have them both here arguing over how to sort it out. On going with ETB to install internet. In a different post I said we would have it last Friday. Well that never happened. Previous tenants farked around with the second line we use to have and when they came to install the internet they couldnt find our second line to install it to. Ok no worries install it to the original line...no we have to put in another work order. Now we figure that the monkey that came would put in the new work order....good service you know....Nope we find out he hasnt and not only that, but we cant get the special price and goodies, because the special finished. Hmmm Ive never seen my wife swear so much in Spanish. They copped it good and proper. Anyways internet here we come......maybe.....

Bunyipcatcher comments on EPM Its not just EPM, we have had a similar problem with ETB. The unit we rent is owned by my wifes parents. Before we came back from Australia it was rented through a company. The previous tenants set up an internet account through ETB on the line. No problem. Except that when we went to move in we kept receiving the bills for the previous tenant and we needed the previous tenant to sign a form saying they didnt want the service anymore....How the hell are we to find the previous tenant. We have finally stopped the bills coming through, but not without inside help in ETB. So after waiting probably about 2 months, we will finally have internet tommorrow. Its been a long wait. Life is a mystery here, I think they based the program LOST on Colombia.

Bunyipcatcher comments on swimming pool near cedritos? Mate, If you find out where there is a reasonably price swimming pool let me know. I once went to body tech to check it out and nearly died at the price for a walk in price just to do laps. The only place I know is a club way up north for Colsubsidio. So if you find out let me know Scott V

Bunyipcatcher comments on Have you heard of Mangostino? The fruit of kings, or the fruit of princes, I cant remember which at the moment. Put em in the fridge to get the flesh super cold. Nice and refreshing. Other thing to be careful of is that it stains.

Bunyipcatcher comments on vicshere Hey mate, I use the same nickname here as I have in the PBH photo collection.

Bunyipcatcher comments on PBH photo contes...20 members only so far? Its very interesting to see that in most categories there are photos from different people depicting the same locations but from different positions and at different times. Great photos so far everyone, have had a lot of fun checking them out and remembering my times at these places.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Where to buy T.V./Microwave/etc? After much shopping around we just bought a Samsung fridge, washing machine and microwave. Got a good price and got an iron and a couple of other things thrown in for free. On the western side of the Autopista heading south on the corner. Probably between Calle 134 and 150, sorry for the vagueness. Cant remember the exact address. I believe there is a kids toy store on the other corner. There is a quite large electical appliance shop. If you buy things together, haggle for the best deal. And pay cash. Not sure if youll get any warranty in San Andresito. If youre not worried about that go there. Just shop around and watch out for gringo prices.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Photographers and Photography Thanks for the reply Mate I live in Bogota and long weekends are usually spent down in Villavicencio.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Children learning English and Spanish at the same time Wowsers! This has taken me half an hour to get through all the replies. Thankyou for all the replies. And most of them have confirmed what we have already read on the net. Our daughter might be a lil slower as far as the picking up both languages but in the end both will be fluent. We are not too worried about it, just wanted to see what other ppl had experienced. At 9 months old she is already as quick as a wink. Almost walking and babbling away. We are at the moment in Bogota, so Iam flat out talking to her in English. And in a few months time hopefully we will be moving back to Oz.
