Bunyipcatcher comments on cheap eats y drinks cartagena

Plaza del Mercado? Whole fish cooked as you wait. Or you could try the different varieties of dishes there as well. How strong is your stomach?

Bunyipcatcher comments on

Well put Ferran, Colombians are great, but the piece of advice I was given when I first came was "Trust No-One!". Still applies today.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Engineering Information

at cstew47 Thanks mate, I have them and Civilia S.A. as well.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Engineering Information

Im in Bogota, but for large companies Iam thinking they have several offices around the country or regional.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Travel Suggestions

Cheers everyone, I have my guia here and will do some research on these places. Thanks for the info.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Need architectural photographer in Bogota

G'day Ed, How good is really good? No real experience in architectural photography, but would have a crack it if you want. Never know what you might get on the other end. Let me know Scott

Bunyipcatcher comments on New Photos

Cheers Miguel, LOL! Time on my hands. I wish! then I would just travel around the countryside with just my camera and a little money similar to the TV series KungFu. Structural drafting around the world has taken a bit of pummelling lately with the economic situation. So most of my time is focused on rustling up some work and looking after my two young kids. So I mostly only get to shoot when we travel around and then it requires convincing the missus and then sneaking away. One day, one day. Hopefully I will have improved a lot by the time I retire.

Bunyipcatcher comments on New Photos

Thanks mate, the site is actually hosted on my web hosts servers using Wordpress. Its not using Wordpress.com or Googles' Blogsot. There are a couple of updates that have to be done, (1) Wordpress from 2.7->2.8 (2) And the plugins for the theme as well. Ill try and sort them out and then get you to tell me if it makes any difference. Thanks for the heads up. Johnny what is your profession?

Bunyipcatcher comments on New Photos

Can any internet/website gurus give me some ideas on things to check on why the site might be running so slow? Tests perhaps?

Bunyipcatcher comments on New Photos

Thanks Johnny, as for the slow website? Hmm no idea. Im not that hi tech. Works ok for me. Maybe because most of it is cached. Not sure. Thanks again for looking

Bunyipcatcher comments on Festival del Burro DMG, Inversiones el Burro

Yo fui a este festival el ano pasado. Es increible!

Bunyipcatcher comments on

Aye carumba! This is very difficult. Here is one that I have up on flickr. There are also some others there as well "http://www.flickr.com/photos/11923070 at N03/tags/colombia/" Castillo de San Felipe - Cartagena

Bunyipcatcher comments on Smart Moves...Not!

Ahhh I forgot all about my dirtboard. http://www.mountainboarder.com/nate1.html That should get me through most of the rough spots!

Bunyipcatcher comments on Cañon de Rio Claro

As to which direction.....right now am thinking it might be an interesting stop on the way to the coast this Easter. Just depends which way we go this year. Ill check out the guia you get at the peajes when I get home for any more information. Thanks for the info fellas.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Bike Path Maps (Bogota)

Thanks Johnny, Here is a link to a map from the wikipedia page http://www.transitobogota.gov.co/admin/contenido/documentos/Ciclorutas_Bta-Feb04[1]_15_55_29.jpg

Bunyipcatcher comments on Iza, Boyaca, Colombia

Nice work Strobers. Thanks! When you come back to Colombia, give me a yell to go out and take some photos.

Bunyipcatcher comments on How to get my money back ?

Sounds strange we had to do a similar thing for my daughter when leaving Australia as her onward ticket from the US to Colombia was waiting for us in the US to be collected. Qantas told us we would have to buy another ticket otherwise she would be refused entry in the US.

Bunyipcatcher comments on SMS/Texting to Comcel/Colombia cell from email or US cell phone

There was something about this on lifehacker or another productivity feed I get. It had a list of a lot of mobile networks and how to email each one. Cant find it now. So I would say yes, you just have to try and find the article

Bunyipcatcher comments on Happy Australia Day for all 3 Aussies living in Colombia

Happy Australia Day to you too mate! Youll have to have mine. Have a good one!

Bunyipcatcher comments on Dance Lessons

Thanks for all the advice and contacts. Will be checking out a few next week and see what I can arrange. Ill let you know what happens in the future and any other information that might be important to others wanting to give it a crack.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Grocery Prices

at Sloopskipper and at Jorgediaz Yup its better to look at the unit prices than anything else. I know they have unit prices at Exito. Sometimes you find that the sale isnt really a sale after all.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Grocery Prices

at Loggi and at Bill is that Corabastos? I have been to the one in the south. This was before I put together this list of prices for produce. I might head up to the one in the North and see how it compares. Cheers for the reminder. at casa_de_norte No worries Ill have to go check them out and see how the prices are. Ive always considered them expensive, but will go and check them out as well and just see. Another option is the small fruit and vege market that they put up between the Spanish school and the Country Club on Thursdays. I have a couple of prices from them Ill have to add. The list I have is on Zoho. So if anyone is interested I can probably share it. Or send you a PDF copy.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Day to day observations of Medellin

Seems to be pretty common practice. In Raquira you can even buy life size water features to put in your garden. http://bp0.blogger.com/_HXN8zAteI0g/R_fGdezGKLI/AAAAAAAAAcI/jNK-_QPKZ1s/s1600-h/20080223_sxv_d70s_054.jpg The other crackup was in San Andresito. They have little signs along the outside wall of a building there that say no urinating. And I kick myself to this day not to have had my camera to capture a bloke leaning up against the wall next to one of these signs letting it go.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Photo Walks

Thanks fellas. Still got lots to learn. If youre interested in getting out give me a yell.

Bunyipcatcher comments on watch where you park in medellin

Yeah its a crock! Same thing happened to me here in Bogota. I was on my way to drop off the kids after kindy at their aunts. Heading along the parallela you pass buses parked in a lane causing traffic jams, taxis doing the same. Head in to the suburban part. Park the car up on their driveway. Its off the road. There is space for ppl to walk past on the footpath. Inside dropping them off then we hear a loud speaker, kinda strange. Then again asking for the owners of cars to come outside. Same ticket $248k. And the most ironic thing was that I could go to traffic school to learn the rules and save 10% off the ticket. This was in a suburban street. The police here are so out of touch with reality. As for the license. You dont need a Colombian license. My ozzi license has been enough for them. Good luck with fighting the ticket. Let us know how you go.

Bunyipcatcher comments on

Another option is a jar with the insides smeared with vasoline and some banana in the bottom. Works in Australia. Then you could use them for fishing bait perhaps? Or might be easier to do a time share thing. They have the kitchen when the lights go out and you have it when theyre on...:)

Bunyipcatcher comments on

Yup have had the same deal with letters, magazine and say a tube of vegemite (cant leave home without it) packaged up in say smallish padded envelope. Sent from Australia from my folks. They pay the post office there some nice fee to send it here via DHL....gets here and you have to pay again. Then they get you trying to send back as well. I have 4 or 5 A4 sheets that I need to send back to Australia. If I go DHL or one of those I know its probably going to cost about $40AU. If someone knows a cheaper alternative. Normal airmail perhaps (has to arrive though) let me know. Iam all ears.

Bunyipcatcher comments on

I dont get it. Its all relative. Anyone who isnt short of one beer in the six pack should be able to figure that out. Enjoy what every cuisine has to offer. Bourdain obviously knows that. Or his TV show wouldnt be worth a lick. And to top it off Taco. In an article in the Semana magazine I think it was had Bourdain stating that the market in Cartegena is one of the most vibrant in the world with all sorts of interesting dishes. Maybe you should get yourself there and try something new?

Bunyipcatcher comments on Cleaning out the apartment - Macbook, Nikon, HP printer/scanner/fax, etc.

TWMCM, Have private msg'd you about the flash. Ill take it off your hands. If you want to go out to shoot some photos sometime give me a yell. Scott

Bunyipcatcher comments on How to Avoid Looking Like an American Tourist

Whats the point? Once you have done your chameleon act to change your appearance to blend in as soon as you open your mouth to speak in Spanish they will know. Hmmmm maybe I can start production on the "Non Gringo Looking Disfraz" for next halloween here. If they work then maybe every Gringo entering Colombia can get one at the airport.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Travel Map of Colombia

Yeah Id go with the tourist guide you get at the toll gates. $13k I believe and has heaps of info.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Inline Skate Equipment & High End Bicycle - Where to buy in Bogota?

TWMCM, No worries. Near Parque Simon Bolivar in Bogota there is a speedskating rink there. I have seen competitions there. So might be best place to start asking around about clubs etc. Also have seen kids from a club training on the ciclovia. But best bet would be to start at the place above and see what you find out. As for stores selling gear...hmmm....There are a couple of bike stores on CL127 west before the autopista. You could try them.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Inline Skate Equipment & High End Bicycle - Where to buy in Bogota?

What do you want to do with the inline skates? Play hockey? Skate socially on the ciclovias? Or ride ramp or a skate park? Or competition speed skating? A bit more information if you please

Bunyipcatcher comments on 5 Bombs in Bogota!!!

From my brother in law there was a bomb in the park bin near Palatino. Blew out all the windows of the surrounding apartments. No one hurt that he saw.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Rock Climbing in Suesca

In Australia my climbing mate is a guide and the company he was working for was a couple hundred aussie dollars for the day including transport, lunch, gear and the guiding. Have you climbed before? Have you got any gear? Harness, shoes?

Bunyipcatcher comments on Rock Climbing in Suesca

G'day Esanch, I might be there this weekend climbing with a friend. Depends on the weather. There is a routes guide you can buy at the climbing store there for about 30K COP. As far as climbing guides go. Never used any but did have a good experience with a bloke Victor Correa. He showed us a great route to give a try and also lent us his walkie talkie just incase we got off track. Here are his details www.guaicani.com /Víctor Correa /Teléfono Bogotá 2405869 / Celular3124631066

Bunyipcatcher comments on Colombian wonder Medicines :)))

Peppermint for nappy rash! Mash it up so the juices start running and then wack it on. Kids smell super too.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Cedula Question - Left the Country for over 90 days ???

Yeah I think it will still be there. When they gave me my temporary cedula, I never went back to get the proper one. Recently I had to renew the cedula and when I went to pick it up, the first one was still there. So thats been about 2 years or so....go figure

Bunyipcatcher comments on Health insurance

Ipdiver, they dont. Where did you come up with that from?

Bunyipcatcher comments on Why don't you move here Peter and others?

Well put Rocinante. I think that reply has tipped my scales a little bit more towards the Colombian side today. Im not sure about others, but for me its always a 50/50 type situation. Both Australia and Colombia have things I love. You can just not have both of them at the same time always.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Health insurance

Njtea5, Congrats on your upcoming being a Dad role. Just one thing off the topic of insurance. Not sure what the deal is in the US as far as passports go. But in Australia a child born there can only have an Australian passport. Where as in Colombia it doesnt matter. Both of our kids have a Colombian passport and an Australian passport. You never know, sometime in the future the US might end up a dogs breakfast and that Colombian passport would be handy. Best of luck with it

Bunyipcatcher comments on Oil change in Bogota

Hmm I paid a bit more than that at Quick Oil on Calle 127 con 19. But I think they changed some other fluids and brake light bulbs as well.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Bailout bill fails

Why should they make the bailout? Any other American losing their business wouldnt get a handout...why Walls St? If I was American citizen I would be pretty peeved at that.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Travelholic......

Does this mean youre related by blood to this fellow? http://g8.no/index.php?showimage=303 Wow

Bunyipcatcher comments on English in Cartagena

Why dont you try learning a bit of Spanish....take some classes before getting here, or do some here....might make it a bit more fun than hanging out speaking English the whole time.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Aussie Rules Football Final in Medellin

PapiChulo, Not sure if its still there....after an Australia Day with no Aussies fiasco, topped off with no Aussie beer. I havent been back since. I used to get emails from them. Cant find a website for them, but this review of them has the address and it sounds about right http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/11249/?view=beerfly&ba=Andreji

Bunyipcatcher comments on Aussie Rules Football Final in Medellin

Hahaha, always in Medellin. Im thinking about moving. I went to Australia Day at the Aussie pub here in Bogota and was the only one in there. Good luck with the footy screening.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Suesca - Accommodation and Hiking

Hmmm, I met some other climbers half way up a cliff there that rented a place for the weekend. Not sure if it was through family or how they did it, but between the group of them it worked out cheaper than camping and was probably a bit warmer. Another option is Victor a climbing guide that I have met there. He might be able to point you in the right direction. www.guaicani.com /Víctor Correa /Teléfono Bogotá 2405869 / Celular3124631066 You can always organise to go to Cocuy with him and get your fill of hiking there.

Bunyipcatcher comments on Hang gliding in Medellin? Anyone know? (NOT parapaente)

How did you get the images to come through. I tried to put a couple on of what I saw and they arent there....Is there some sort of information page about doing this sort of thing?

Bunyipcatcher comments on Hang gliding in Medellin? Anyone know? (NOT parapaente)

G'day mate, Yes I have seen some hangliding being done on the drive through to the coast. It was on the north side of Medellin up in the mountains right on the main road. From PoorButHappy Posted Pics From PoorButHappy Posted Pics I dont live in Medellin, so best bet would be to try and get up that way on a weekend and see what is happening.
