sending package/suitcase FROM Colombia to NYC

Yup, I tried searching the site but nothing. Anyone have any ideas? I'll be going to Bogotá soon and would maybe like to send a suitcase or two before I travel. I don't care if it takes a long time to arrive . ...

Is "dengue" "west nile virus"?

Are they the same thing? seems so. If not, what is dengue in English???

need a cheap cog/cali/MDE to NYC flight!!!

My wife's got to be in the states before May 21 and the flights are expensive, any ideas?????

What happened to TDCrowson looking for Gloria????

There was a guy who always asked if anyone knew about "Gloria" in Armenia, he was from the states. I did a whole lot of legwork looking for her (people ask me what happened on the street still). He sent me an email saying he found her, but zero details. His facebook page says he just got married. Any info? ...

"Mí Tío" - now in postproduction/film in Salento

The editing is taking awhile, but we filmed the whole thing in about 20 days, exclusively in Salento. The guys and gals from some new novela (I think Caracol) kept popping by to see what we were up to. Image and video hosting by TinyPic ...

spending less than a year out of the US for residents......questions

I just want to double check some stuff, my wife has her US residency and we have been currently living in Colombia. We always go to the US at least once a year, so it hasn't been a problem. This year however, we'll be moving there 100% and be cutting it reall close to the year limit. Is it one year since the last time she LEFT the US or the last time she entered? For instance last year she entered the 12th of May and stayed for about 2 weeks, so she has until the 12th of may this year to ...

bufalo sees hope for theme parks!

True - I imagine some here know how much I can't stand theme parks and what a waste of time they are. They don't show much if anything of the local culture (Parque del Café in Armenia supposedly does, but spend 10 minutes on an actually coffee farm, nope not a touristy one kids, but a real campesino coffee farm and you'll learn lots more), and aside from making $$$ and keeping the kids happy they really don't offer much. Then I went to Parque de los Pies Descalzos yesterday (Medellín) - it ...

is Bogotá and Medellín all that to those living in other places???

Just wondering how the gringos living in other cities/towns feel about Bogotá and Medellín, or those that know other places. I've been coming/living here for a while and have just lately known these cities, to a small extent, and can't really see the major deal with them. Bogotá's Candelaria is nothing in comparison with most of the small towns I see in the rest of the country, especially El Quindío. In the heart of Medellín we just went to a replica of a small town - boring because ag ...

Faroles in Quimbaya

Here's a link to a video (kinda crappy, really rush job. Even had to do the narration myself, ugh!) of the lantern festival. Unfortunately it got rained out this year opening night, not sure about the second, but I believe so too. This is where the lantern festival started and has been copied by the other cities in Colombia. I haven't seen Medellin's yet, sure it's way bigger, but this is small town cool. Too bad it is becoming even more commercial than the organizer interviewed feare ...

Are bra sizes the same in Colombia as in the US?

OK I have to ask this since it seems to be an ongoing debate in my household. Can someone please give me a serious answer real quick because I imagine the responses I'll get afterward. From what I know in the US, the number is the BAND above the ribcage and the letter is the CUP size. If you get a breast enhancement, the band shouldn't change (much if at all) rather just the cupsize. I have a bunch of colombianas that say no, the number changes. Who's right? is bra sizing different dow ...

Bummer - post erased about the U.S. soldiers raping a kid

what actually happened to it, did somene complain or did it go bad?

how do you research doctors????

I've found fantastic doctors here and absolutely sucky ones. Lately I've been trying to research some for various peoplr/reasons and have had problems. One being plastic surgery for my sis-in-law who wants new hooters (no, I'm not paying). Anyway since she's completely computer illiterate, and I don't want her spending all day on my PC, I've been doing or trying to do some research for her. She'd like it done in Medellin, and I've been searching posts regarding this. When she calls th ...

Apocalipsur/Film & Video fest in Quindio

The festival seems to have returned to it's disorganization and lack of good films like 2 years ago. They semi-premiered "Apocalipsur", what a piece of shit. Badly shot, drugs from the get-go and the director had a discusion of how he made the film - a 20 minute video of dopey behind-the-scenes footage - what a waste of time. so far I went to two events and both had scheduling problems. What gets me is that another memeber of the cinematography council (I'm one) here in El Quindio is the ...

surgery near armenia

looking for a couple of things for a couple of people. All are in Armenia, but can travel as far as Cali/Medellin. If necesary, will go to Bogotá. 1 - orthodontist, 4 years ago I had metal fillings changed here in Armenia, I've since had them changed 4 TIMES! I guess another city might be it. 2 - boob job, she was all set to have one here in Armenia since there are now tons of clinics, but after hearing about my dentistry, well...... Supposedly a lot of people come here for it, but ...

Any news of La Linea????

I posted a week or so ago about how my sis-in-law was crossing La Linea when some guerilla guys bummed a ride for an hour or so. Now there's been a minimum of 10 soldiers (kids) killed near Genova, which isn't part of the road, but part of La Linea. Looks like things are heating up up there. Anyone have any more info? I'm supposed to go back up there this weekend/early next week. I guess we got lucky with the timing because my wife and I had planned on going ot Genova to spend a night or ...

Gringos married to colombianas in Colombia!!!!!!!

Just wondering what you guys do visa-wise for your ladies? We're obligated to move to the US for the next three years or so (I'll find out once I'm there and sort the whole thing out) because my wife has a US residence, but we're currently here in Locombia. The embassy takes being married to a gringo as zip regarding a tourist visa, so my wife handing in the residency to try for a visa would be an insane idea. What does everyone else here do? Help out with some info because I may be doing a ...

How long for US citizenship?

I hear 3 years and I hear 5 years. My wife got her residence a few years back, but we don't live in the states, just go once a year. We will be moving back in jan, but would like to know from people who've done it, how long does the citizenship take? We'd like to leave the states as soon as possible, so are we looking at 3 or 5? Thanks! ...

tatoos in El Quindío region

OK, so I usually don't think that tatoos are all that nice looking. But my daughter keeps drawing happy faces on my hand and well, I'm thinking of having someone tattoo it the next time she does. Be pretty cool to have that on my body for life and show it to her as she gets older. Anyone know any good tatoo artists near Armenia? I'll even hop a bus and go to Pereira. Medellin is a choice too since we'll be there for 2 weeks. Again, someone good. I don't want someone doing a crappy job t ...

What happened to "Women Have it Rough?"

I wasn't able to check in sooner, missed it. What happened?

dollar dropping or peso rising?

is it that the dollar is going down and the US is getting worse, or is Colombia getting better and it's peso is getting stronger?

Anyone have SKYPE?

I just downloaded and tested it, but I'd like to call someone to make sure it works - but I don't know anyone that has it! Reason I need to test it is that my wife is going to be defending her thesis using it (see 2 posts down), soooooooooooooooooooo it would be a good thing if I have it up and running well. Anyone want a call from bufalo? ...

video from Leticia, Amazonas

A quickie video I did to accompany my wife's thesis project that she did while we lived in Leticia - what a blast. It was shot in Leticia, Tabatinga, Puerto Nariño; the indigenous are Ticunas, Yaguas and Huitotos; some of the interesting "wildlife" were found in the house we were living in (only one on the military base without screens on the windows!); most of the shots that aren't of the open river, as in if you see vegetation or houses, were dried up when we got there and under several fee ...

how long /how is it for wife to request family member

We might be moving to the US just after New Years (sucks, I know) and we were talking about maybe having one of my wife's sisters come up and help us out with our daughter as she works and stuff. Any heads up on the process? My wife already has her permanent residency for about 2 years or so, but we have not been living in the states (one of the reasons we are going, staying until her citizenship). Does my wife have to be a citizen in order to request her sister? Can her sister come as a r ...

If you want to make a film here in Armenia/Colombia in general

I don't remember if I posted this before, but filmmaking as a whole is rising here in Colombia. I'm now on the Council of Cinematography here in El Quindío, which branches out from the "Ministerio de Cultura" on a national level. So if anyone needs any help/info, just send me a contact. ...

another perv

Guys next door doing an illegal construction and I catch one climbing over an airshaft and moving our bathroom windo so he could peep at my wife. Of course the police almost arrested me for fucking up his arm with a pipe. The other workers covered for him, the "engineer" didn't say two words when he showed up. I'd like to report them for having no licence, but I get the feeling this is only one of their illegal activities, if you get my drift. Since I have a wife and kid now I can't do the s ...

Ah FUDGE! I have to renew my visa

Ok, another one for ignorance. I thought I only had to stop by DAS and renew my cédula. Turns out I have to renew my visa as well. It's a spousal visa.

Now I have to go to Bogotá (oh, joy and frolic)

From what I remeber I need to bring:

1. cedula
2. passport
3. a letter from my wife (notarized) requesting my presence in the country
4. a notarized recent copy of our marraige certificate.
5. $ but am unsure how much an ...

Why do colombians think that yawning means you are hungry?

OK, I didn't do a scientific study or anything, but doesn't yawning mean you are tired/bored? Everytime I yawn here people ask me if I am hungry. I try to explain that it is usually because one is tired, but they don't belive me. I asked a friend after:

When you watch movies and people wake up or go into bed, don't they usually yawn? YES

When you wake up or are getting ready to go to sleep, do you ever yawn? YES

When you feel your stomach grumbli ...

Captain Howdy!!!!!

Hey you Twisted Sister colombiana-lovin gringo.....

I can't find the thread where I wrote last, but yes, of course I know the song. I saw them and Dio in the Meadowlands years ago. Dee Snider was from around where I lived (so were the Ramones). I actually came up with video ideas for "Stay Hungry". OK so I was an odd kid.

Anyhoo, what's the travel plans like? When, where and such? If you're still going to Santa Marta I can give you some ideas, same with Eje Ca ...

DIAN told me you can recieve up to 80million COP with out declaring it

The title says it all (almost) and I'm not sure how true it is only because it is the first time I have heard about it. He told me that if I wanted to buy property with a value of less than 80 million, then I could have the money sent from the US without declaring it and hence no taxes. He also said that if the property is 120 million then it could still be done by putting half in my name (60million) and half in my wife's name (60 million).
Now I know if I go again today and ask so ...

Production stills from a short film shot in El Quindío

This should have cost a total of 30 million, but we only paid about 4 million, and so far are getting about 9 million from donations, so technically it made money without being sold yet. It is called "Daniel se la Juega". Anyone looking to produce something here should get in contact with me at: rapprichard at gmail.com. Our next shoot is in February and will be my project (I just helped out on this one with equipment and by consulting).

"Lanterns of Quimbaya" is working

Here's a short doc I did for CurrentTV.com about the annual lantern festival in Quimbaya, Quindío. If anyone can tell me whether the video looks smooth or not. It may be my connection, but it looks worse than the first version.
Sorry kids, but you'll have to cut and paste the page, here it is:

Lanterns of Quimbaya

Hey all, just uploaded a short doc about the "Fiesta de Velas y Faroles" or Lantern Festival of Quimbaya. The uploaded video is a bit choppy and the subtitles may be too small to read, I may try to fix that, other-wise, enjoy. It is here(hope I do this right):

OK, I guess I didn't, anyone who knows what the above ...

Hi,
I noteiced that some of the pictures on this site can be HUGE! I also want to submit more photos, so what would be a good size? (I'd rather not experiment using the site)

starting a US business in Colombia

If I were to offer services, say over the phone or internet, from Colombia, but wanted it registered as a US business, can that be set up from here? - Colombia. Or would I have to wait until I'm in the US to do that? Just some ideas.... ...

Any commercial divers here?

Hi all,
Just wondering if there are any on this page. I used to run into a lot of them in Santa Marta. Thinking of a carreer change and this might be the way to go.

Thanks!

colombian US residency going to mexico or canada

If a colombiana has a US permanent residency, can she go to mexico or canada without a visa? or does she have to get one as well. My wife may be doing so FROM Colombia and then we might enter the US from either Canada/mexico. Just wondering if a green card is good enough.

Thanks for any help! ...

Is this residency requiresmet for the US a bunch of bull??¿¿

Hey,
Been a while since my marraige so maybe things have changed.

I met a US guy living here(Armenia) for three months married to a Colombiana. His lawyer told him that his wife has to wait until he completes six months living here before she can apply for her US residency visa. And then she could wait years for it to be processed, unless he pays extra and then it is only a month or so.

Sounds like complete bull to me, but is this some sort of new law? ...

Anyone have any info on "Guacas"? Or indigenous grave robbers?

I stumbled across a couple of these guys today while hoofing it through some coffee farms. They basically search out indigenous burial sites and sell the gold/ceramics that they find. I talked to them for a bit and will be tagging along tommorrow to do some filming, maaaaaaybe try to get a doc out of it (sometimes these things look real good but don't follow through). Anyway, tomorrow is going to be a long day up and down the mountain, we'll be down by Montenegro. I'll be reading up on it al ...

Coke Colombia?

I normally don't like when people take cheap shots about drugs in colombia, but there is a link "Coke Colombia". Hmmmmmmm.

anyone know where caulfield2 is?

Haven't seen him posting in a while, was supposed to try to meet up with him in Armenia, any info?

(Haven't seen any posts from platano either)

Do I give the impression that I'm a child molestor? (lochdu & David)

Just wondering... I recently voiced my opinion about something touristy, and all of a sudden some seem to think that I like to go after little girls. Was I really out of place to deserve that? If so, that's OK, but tell me how. I put this here because the original post was locked or something. I also did it because it was an older post and would like to see what others think. Thanks!

Bra sizes in colombia - no, I´m not joking

This has been one of those long-run things that I just don't get. I know in the states there is a number and a cup size, say 34B. From what I got, the bigger the breast, the bigger the cup, the number ws just a measurement of the lady's back or something. Either way, it was the cup that mattered.
Here in colombia the ladies tend to say that the number has to do with breast size, not the letter. This subject comes up whenever I shop for/with my wife. Is it true? If it the number, w ...

Rondas Video - The animation of the kids' songs, where can I get them

Hey all,
A while ago I picked up a "Barnie's Beach Party" video for my daughter, it was some other Barnie video which was ok, but as a bonus, it also had video for all of the famous kids' songs. "El Negro Cirilo", "Una cancion Para Papa", "La Bruja Loca". Anyway, the video is now kaput so I'm looking to get a legit copy. I can't find them anywhere, anyone with any knowhow out there? ...
