More than half of all K-1 visa holders never get married and instead stay in the US and go underground along with everyone else. Nevertheless K visas are a drop in the bucket of all foreigners coming to the US to get married. The vast majority come in on tourist visas or on the VWP and get married here. Of the 339,000 foreign spouses of US citizens only 48,864 came in on K visas (http://travel.state.gov/pdf/FY06AnnualReportTableXVIA.pdf). Of course most foreigners marrying US citizens are not coming from Third World countries.

The K visas are non-immigrant visas because they are for a limited duration and do not give the holder the right to reside in the US permanently. However everyone knows that someone going to the US on a K visa is eventually going to AOS in the US so they are processed by the Immigrant Visa Unit at the US embassy in Bogota. She won't have to have all the shots because she is an adult but if you think she's going to be able to get away with not having ANY of them, you're dreaming. It's either their way or the highway so if you want her here you better be prepared to play ball.

bueno_pues comments on What's the latest on this: SHOTS??? por la immigraciones? Neither the K-1 nor the K-3 are immigrant visas but the vaccinations are required for both. The good thing is that when you AOS you can use the same medical exam that she already had in Bogota.

WRONG! That is not the idea at all. Many guys think that the K-1 is a 90 day test drive. It's not. It was never meant to be. It was meant to allow people who already have a relationship to get married in the US. Personally I think the K-1 should be abolished. No other western country even has such a type of visa.
