British Paisa comments on LIBRAS ESTERLINAS................

If you get it from an ATM it will be just under $2.000.000.00 as you get charged by your bank.

British Paisa comments on UK - Colombia plug converter

What phone have you got?.... assuming it isn't a nokia cos if it is then a Colombian charger will work fine.
Anyway, I have a couple of adaptors so if you are really desperate I could meet up with you and you could charge the phone.
Probably better to just take photos with a camera as I imagine your phone is pretty useless in Colombia (unless you have bought a sim card or are happy getting charged more than a quid a minute to talk).

Give us a shout if interested.

British Paisa comments on Colombianos viviendo en Medellin?

Claro que tienen peanut butter, (aunque no estoy seguro para que lo usas ya que veo por tu seudonimo 'init4ass' que te gusta que te den por el follo), es mantequilla de mani por si lo necesitas y se consigue en cualquier supermercado!....

British Paisa comments on If your ticket is over $700 to get to Colombia

If you are one of the following: full time student, under 25 or a teacher you can usually get a good deal at statravel.com

British Paisa comments on cali or medelin

30 days is along time so why not just visit both and make your own mind up!...

British Paisa comments on Niquia station

It is the last metro station in Bello. Around the station is ok and you should have no problems, there is a large exito supermarket and you can get buses to go copacabana / girardota etc. The surrounding neighbourhoods are not too good and not the best place to be, I have been there several times during the day, but personally have never felt very safe in bello for some reason, people are nice enough but I think it is a bit of a dump.

British Paisa comments on What about the men?

Colombians in general think that 'gringas' are slappers/easy so you should be getting plenty of attention, even if it is only in the interest of a quick shag!.....

All the best.

British Paisa comments on Colombian Doctor Wishing to practice Medicine in the United States

Medical Doctors from Outside North America

Physicians trained outside of North America are required to complete the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certification. To get this certification, it is required to write Part I and Part II of the three-stage United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE), which in this case is administered by the ECFMG. Between Part I and II, you are required to complete the ECFMG Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA). Completing these requirements verifies your readiness to enter a residency or fellowship program in the US. Testing centers for Part I and II of the USMLE exam can be found at the Thomson Prometric website, and can be completed world-wide. The CSA examination is only available in 2 locations in the US. For more information, on these tests and requirements, please contact the NBME and the ECFMG.

If you wish to immigrate to the US, and practice as an MD and obtain a state license, you will then be required to complete Part III of the USMLE exam. Part III is administered by the Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB). Part III is only available in testing centers in the US and its territories. For more information about Part III of the USMLE exam, please contact the FSMB.

For information about board (specialty) certification, see the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) .

VISA Information: You are required to have a US work visa before being allowed entry to the US and employment in the US, and usually sponsorship is required. Please contact the nearest US Embassy or Consulate to inquire about obtaining a US work visa

British Paisa comments on Botero

Get yourself down to the city centre and ask any of the dozens of street vendors who have posters laid out on the pavement. If they don't have the one you are looking for, they will get it for you and it will probably be a lot cheaper than at a gallery.

British Paisa comments on Vaccinations, anyone?

Visit your GP before travelling and they will advise you of the necessary vaccinations. It is better to get them all regardless of where you are going so as not to limit where you can go whilst there.

It is better to have the vaccination and not need it that to not have it at all!.....

British Paisa comments on Hotels in Medellin

The Hotel Ambassador is still there -
Carrera 50, 54-50, Medellin, Colombia
from $28.00/night

Check out the following link which lists all of the Hotels in Medellin
http://www.partres.com/hotel/med.html

All the best on your return to the most beautiful city in S.A.

British Paisa comments on insurance

you should always get insurance wherever you go on holiday, most important part of the insurance should be the medical section so read that part closely. You don't want to get sick and have a huge bill as well....

British Paisa comments on Is Medellin safe?

UC is right, it is very rare to see a fist fight in Colombia, probably due to the fact that someone normally ends up getting shot or stabbed, so most intelligent people just prefer to avoid confrontation with strangers.

British Paisa comments on ship or excess baggage to UK

get a flight that goes through the US as the luggage allowance is a lot more, you can normally take two pieces of luggage weighing no more than 32kgs (each) and there is a fixed rate for excess baggage (per piece).

If you get a flight through Europe then it is probably better to ship items as you can normally only take up to two pieces of luggage with a maximum weight of 23kgs(both) and get charged excess baggage per kilo over rather than per piece of luggage and it is something stupid like £14 or £15 per extra kilo.

So if you plan on travelling heavy my advice would be to pay that bit extra in your ticket and get a flight that goes through the US, it will work out cheaper in the long run.

British Paisa comments on cedula or tarjeta de identidad

yep, tarjeta de identidad is a waste of time!..... just get a cedula (be prepared to get up early and make the long queue though)...

Check out this link http://www.poorbuthappy.com/colombia/node/3697

British Paisa comments on Is Medellin safe?

It should be safe as long as the girls that you met are from the right side.... i.e. if you spent your time hitting on every single grilla/bandida/sucia you saw in San Andres your time in Medellin may not be as enjoyable as her pillo/nea/escoria boyfriend will take care of you....

All the best and hope not to see you mentioned in the obituaries of 'EL COLOMBIANO'

British Paisa comments on Shipping to Colombia

Alternatively you can ask your local bike shop to keep a box for you...(cheapest option) as does not cost anything, just make sure that you check with your carrier regarding what you have to do to bike (normaly remove handlebars, pedals, front wheel) and make sure you use loads of padding, nothing worse than getting the bike on the other end and realising the wheel won't fit cos' the frame is knackered!.....
Regarding best option it all depends where you are travelling from as some routes have fixed excess bagage charges and others charge per kilo. (for example when flying from london to colombia via the states you simply pay £70 for every piece of excess bagage but if travelling via france/spain etc you have to pay something ridiculous like £14 per kilo over your allowance), so the cheapest fare is not always the best when travelling heavy!....

British Paisa comments on IS IT EASY TO FIND A JOB IN THE UK?

British Paisa comments on IS IT EASY TO FIND A JOB IN THE UK?

All the best.

British Paisa comments on questioner

Just say that you want to inmerse yourself in an English culture in order to improve your skills and that a degree from the UK opens more possibilities than one from India, thus the reason for you wseeking the opportunity to study in the UK.

Something along those lines...... just make up a convincing story...

British Paisa comments on Dog Breeders in or around Bogota!!!

Check out deremate.com and mercadolibre.com, on these two you can normally find loads of dogs in the mascotas/animales section and get a rough idea of prices.

All the best.

British Paisa comments on Buying online and having it delivered to Colombia

Hi there Lorenzo.
I have purchased loads of stuff from the USA over the internet and had it shipped to me in Medellin with no probs, but just make sure that you pay for the parcel to be insured, better to be safe than sorry.

British Paisa comments on Every where it`s alway`s the same song!!!!!!!!!!!!

Couple of Suggestions... First off: For someone who lived in Colombia for 12 years your spelling is sh*t!......
Second: The whole idea of a forum is that people can express their opinions on a certain theme/topic, so all this b*tching you are doing is really quite lame and I feel that it is you who has to grow up.
Third: I see that your time out of Germany has not helped your typical German sense of humor. (I will try to get that frase translated to german for you as I don't think 'sense of humor' exists in Germany and that is why you seem to be so an*l about everything).
Fourth: Please post the comments written in Spanish in the 'Solo en Español' section next time.

Apart from that, welcome to PBH.

British Paisa comments on Mobile Phones in Colombia from London

She is British, that is the problem!.....

British Paisa comments on Sending small packages to Colombia?

I personally have never had any problems with getting stuff sent to me in Colombia, mostly stuff I have bought over the internet. have had a car stereo, speakers, amp, cable kit etc sent over with USPS and always gets there.
The boxes have always been large so maybe that is the trick, large boxes are harder to misplace.
Whatever it is I am not saying that the system is any good as it takes around 2 days to get from the states to colombia and then 4 weeks to get to medellin.
COLOMBIAN POSTAL SYSTEM IS CRAP...

British Paisa comments on Mobile Phones in Colombia from London

Don't really know as my sister got the OLA sim card for me, but I doubt it cost her a lot as its pay as you go and also she would have asked me for the money if it was (typical sister/brother relationship).

All the best on your travels and give us a shout if you're in Medellin.

British Paisa comments on help translating?

I am assuming you have some kids (male) and this is what he/she possibly refers to as the muchachones (it could also be mates/workers). 'How are the boys'.

Ormas means molds or casts (relating normally to shoes). 'we have used the new molds/casts for the first time at that location'.

it is all a guess really though as without the context your friend could be referring to anything.

British Paisa comments on Total mariachi disaster: What a fool I am

That is one crazy Colombiana you have managed to get there!..., I would shop around a bit more as it will probably only get worse, I mean imagine what will happen if you decide to go to Colombia to visit her; she may think it is innapropriate and get a sicario to sort you out!....

Just kidding about the sicario; however, I regret to say that the crazy bit is true.

All the best anyway.

British Paisa comments on VISIT TO MEDELLIN

On that note, I will be back in Medellin on a permanent basis as from the 2nd of May. I can speak both English and Spanish fluently, so give us a shout if you want to practice either.

British Paisa comments on Now I'm getting death threats (and on Easter Friday)

YOU BEEN SLEEPING WITH SOMEONES [deleted]....

WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR PHONE OR SIM FROM, THEY MAY BE LOOKING FOR THAT PERSON....

GET A NEW PHONE AND FORGET ABOUT IT UNLESS YOU KNOW OF A REASON WHY SOMEONE MAY BE PISSED OFF WITH YOU.

British Paisa comments on I want to hire a mariachi (8 piece) band for my friend in Barranquilla

Be careful I suggest you think it through before doing this as anyone could say that they have or know of a mariachi band in Barranquilla, take the money you send them and fcuk off, leaving you none the wiser.

Although a bit extreme this is the best mentality to have when dealing with people on web site forums who are using pseudonyms and all those who are recommended by these, as you have no idea who they are.

All the best anyway...

British Paisa comments on Owning a handgun for Protection in Colombia

Go to the army barracks or Brigada in Cali and they will give you all of the info.

British Paisa comments on Any Americans in Envigado/Medellin?? help me!

I agree that it is difficult to meet English speaking people in Medellin, I have met foreigners through studying or working as ELT. In the 10 years I have lived in Medellin met couple of Australians, about 4 Gringos and several Brits, always preferred to hang out with Colombians though as I don't really have a need to practice English as my British parents and sister live in Medellin, so can talk to them in English whenever I want.

I will be back in Medellin at the end of April, have been living there since 1994 so don't get lost anymore (not that you can).
If anyone wants to get together give us a shout.

British Paisa comments on Suggestions for a place to propose in Cali?

try the plaza de mercado!...

British Paisa comments on Vallenato music: what's your opinion

Vallenatos are the best!... All time favourite vallenatao: Me deja el avion (Diomedes)

This has to be the best music to get pissed to, but you have to understand Spanish to be able to appreciate it as the lyrics are what makes these songs special!...

British Paisa comments on LONDONMALE PROBLEMS WITH COLOMBIA ARE HERE!!!!

I agree with gabo and JVH I came back to England for 4 months at the beginning of Jan and can't wait for May when I get to go back to Colombia!...

Give me some food that has been left o/s for ages, sancocho when you have a hangover, club colombia on a Sunday after playing footie, arepa with carne in the morning...... all these, the people and the great atmosphere keep me thinking about Colombia 24/7 when I am not there.

It goes without saying that the Colombianas play a big part!....

British Paisa comments on Maybe someone in Medellin and help me?/Talvez algiuen en Medellin puede me ayudar?

Check out http://www.colombiaemb.org/opencms/opencms/consuladodc/adopciones.html
It lists the current authorised agencies in Colombia. There are two in Medellin but none under that name, but with so few agencies it probably is a close community and they might be able to put you on the right track.

British Paisa comments on safety standards & poor food hygiene

When are you going to realise that no one in the forum really cares about the sleepless nights you spend worrying about food hygiene!...
Get over it and let everyone live as they want, as long as they are happy.
I suppose the frozen microwave meals you are used to wouldn't taste too good if left out of the freezer for several hours so I can see why you think others should be so concerned.
Go have a shower and brush you teeth while you are at it.
You give English people a bad name with your pedantic behaviour!...

British Paisa comments on Cocaine

Channel 4 in the UK.

British Paisa comments on Nonpirated DVD´s and VHS tapes in Bogotá

I have had no trouble with the pirate dvds / cds and like viewpoint can sleep at night after watching a good quality copied movie.

If you insist on original movies you may find it quite hard as I suggest from what you are saying that your dvd player is pretty crap, I say this because if it won't read pirate movies then it probably isn't a multi zone/dvd/mp3/photo reader player. Anyway getting back on track, the original movies you find in Colombia will all be for the South America zone (what ever that is) and your dodgy dvd player may not be able to read it!...

All the best, the world's economy needs more dumb ass thinking people like you!...

British Paisa comments on anyone hear of West Caribbean?

I have flown Medellin - Bogota with them a couple of times and they are punctual, unlike avianca!... who will quite happily keep everyone who is waiting for the six 0'clock flight on the ground and put them on the 7 o'clock flight in order to save money (pathetic).

Anyway getting back on track, they are a good airline and I would fly with them. The only problem I have encountered is that the frequency of their flights is poor.

British Paisa comments on Col. most dangerous in S. America for backpackers?

Boost to the economy Would sure help the economy to have more backpackers that could be stripped of their cash.

British Paisa comments on Motorcycles/Scooters in Cities

Go for it......CHICKEN!.... If you plan on staying in Medellin for a while I would get one, I live in Medellin and have a motocycle that I use when I can't be asked to use my car and get stuck in traffic (rush hour), you should look for a bike that is not on the theft hot list, i.e don't get a kMX125 / RX125 / DT125-175 or any Kawasaki as you will more tha likely be subject to a gun being pointed at you and having to hand over your bike, get a scooter or a large bike like a Freewind / GS500 or XR, there is no guarantee that these won't get taken from you but the odds are more in your favour that if you are on one of the others. If you like Vespas I can guarantee you that these won't be stolen.
Traffic in Medellin is ok, you just have to ride defensively, ride in the middle of the lane, don't give the car the chance to push in beside you and force you over, I have been riding for about 6 years now and "touch wood" have never had a bike stolen or an accident.
Insurance for motorcycles is practically impossible unless you get a new one and if you can insure a second hand one it will probably be quite expensive, running costs are minimal.

Anyway, if you do plan on getting a bike make sure that is is up to date on impuestos, etc as these can be a big "chicharon" later on.

All the best!...
