Bquilla comments on In law visa

Visa Info I live in the U.S. and sent a letter to my Colombian relatives offering to pay for all of their travel expenses. I am financially able to cover the cost of their travel, so why were they denied?
In accordance with U.S. immigration law applicants must establish that they have strong ties to Colombia that will compel them to return after a temporary stay in the United States. Despite the assurances or good intentions of a U.S. relative, an invitation letter will simply help establish that the applicant has a credible reason for traveling, and will do little to help the applicant overcome the presumption of immigrant intent. If you wish, you may send your relatives a personal letter explaining the purpose of the trip, the dates, and contact information. The applicant should bring the invitation letter with him/her to the visa interview. However, s/he must also bring documents that prove strong family and/or economic ties to Colombia. A letter of invitation from the U.S. is not sufficient to qualify for a visa, and even if you send a letter an offer to pay for the trip, applicants who lack compelling economic or family ties will be denied a visa. It is not necessary for relatives from the U.S. to come to the interview, nor should they send documents to the Embassy, as it is impossible to match them with applications. The Visa Information Call Center programs all interview appointments. The number to call from the U.S. is (1-877) 804-5401.

Bquilla comments on In law visa

In law Visa ! En Colombia hay un periodo de espera de 1 a 2 años solo para ir a la entrevista, es un tiempo de espera bastante largo. Here is the info:
Tourist Visa (B-2) or Temporary Business Visa (B-1)

What is a B-1/B-2 Visitor Visa?

The most commonly used category of visa is the Visitor B-1/B-2 visa; it is to be used for:
Vacations
Visiting family
Business meetings
Work-related training (short term)
Medical treatment
Traveling as a domestic employee
Accompanying another traveler on long-term Non-Immigrant travel if not qualified for a derivative visa
In Colombia, most B-1/B-2 visas are issued for a five-year validity, and can be used to enter and exit the United States multiple times during that period. In certain cases, the visa may be issued for a limited validity or number of entries. The validity and length of stay is determined on a case-by-case basis.

Specific Requirements for the B-1/B-2 Visitor Visa
Documents Required for Non-immigrant Visa Applications. In accordance with U.S. immigration law applicants must establish that they have strong ties to Colombia that will compel them to return after a temporary stay in the United States. The list of documents which can be presented to support the application for a visa includes suggestions for documents that may be presented. Please note, however, that presentation of these documents does not guarantee the issuance of the visa. Documents from the United States, such as invitation letters, proof of commercial contacts, etc., may be useful to clarify the reasons for travel, but are not as important as those that indicate the applicant's economic, social, family, and professional situation in Colombia. Please read the list carefully and present only those documents which pertain to your particular case. If possible, present original documents only.

Jpine I agree with you completely! Sydneygirls veneer has worn off. "Flicking the channels" and on E, etc etc... She is exactly the type person that watches "E" on a regular basis. Shallow.

Bquilla comments on Ayudad Universidad para mi hijo

Saludos,

"Met any drug lord yet" Is that an attempt at humor?

Bquilla comments on Sydney girl flirting with danger

Colombia could do without the bad press especially if it is fabricated...which I believe to be the case in this situation. The world already has this preconcived notion about Colombia before travelling to the country. Once there they realize all these "stories" are just that(for the most part). Why invent excitement for the sake of a good story.

Bquilla comments on

A true love story! Elmo. The Colombian Casanova. I had to dry my eyes after reading that beautiful love story.

Bquilla comments on Sydney girl flirting with danger

I was not looking for an answer Sydneygirls post are just too colorful. Being kept under house arrest by her "man" due to the fact that she and her camera would be in grave danger if they venture out. On her first outting, in the nick of time the scooter comes to life and they speed away from the boogie man to safety? Come on. Seems to me that you want excitement/danger in your life and are making Colombia your springboard. You want danger head to Iraq.

Bquilla comments on Sydney girl flirting with danger

Random House publishing might buy your story...but I won't.

Bquilla comments on Expats in Barranquilla

Thanks for trying I am still very suprised at the business mindset of some of the people I've met in Colombia. No problem getting tinto or a taxi but conducting real estate business is like pulling teeth. Anyway, I appreciate your help.

Bquilla comments on Expats in Barranquilla

Roadrunner I'm still in the states but plan on calling Barranquilla "home" in the near future. My wife and I were just in BQUILLA attempting to look at some real estate, however, we had no luck when it came to finding an agent that would/could send us info via the internet. If you run into an agent that could corresponde via the internet would you give me a shout. Thanks

Bquilla comments on Digame ELMO

How can you get past the look and smell... well, I've eatin stuff that did not look pretty and smelled bad but that's another topic. I wanted to try the butifarra but my wife said no way. I did have cow tongue though and it was really good. Very tender.

Bquilla comments on Digame ELMO

My BQUILLA wife assured me that I would start BARFING like a dog if I ate butifarra so I took her advice and let the men tapping the metal bowls filled with butifarra pass me by. Barranquilla is an awesome city. We looked at a few appts. but had no luck finding a real estate agent that had a website. Do you know of any?

Bquilla comments on Digame ELMO

I'm down with that Elmo. Hey, this might be lame to you Elmo, but for me it was excitement. Went to a Barranquilla Junoir Football game (Junior's lost to a team from Cali) few weeks ago and sat in the far end section of the stadium. Talk about crazy! I don't think the people sitting next to us ever sat down or stopped yelling. $5 USD a ticket, $1 for a beer...can't beat it. I did'nt have the kahoonies to try that meat stuff that you spoke of. Maybe next time.

Bquilla comments on Digame ELMO

welcome back seattlejames How did the wedding go?

Bquilla comments on Curiosity Question, again

Late is on time This will definitely take some getting used to. Being on time, beit for business, real estate showings, family/friends getting together, is not that important. My wife tells me that for family get-togethers being late is expected. Also, the open door policy with regards to family and friends comming over, unannounced, for a short visit (or taking over the spare bedroom for a few months for that matter) will take some getting used to. No walking around the house in my boxers due to the fact that 1/4 of her family is spending the night.

Bquilla comments on

BP Put on your best polo shirt, catch the next bus to Barranquilla and say "Hi" to Elmodefoque.

Bquilla comments on Need Help With Christmas Gift

I heard parque Tayrona (Cañaveral y Arrecifes), Neguange, Taganga is very nice. Just take 45 min from Santa Marta to Parque Tayrona but is a natural beauty of Colombia. There is possible camping or rent a cabanas.

Bquilla comments on What do you miss the most?

Laying undisturbed on the beach At times the venders on the beaches of Cartagena can get to be a bit much. An evening walk with my wife along the beach was anything but romantic. I understand the need to make a dollar but having a 15 min walking conversation about why I do not want my hair braided tends to ruin the moment.

Bquilla comments on How long you need to stay in us after getting residency/green card

When I got my residence, I return to Colombia 4 months later. The temporal/permanet residence is a permision to stay or leave US. Also, she can go to INS and ask for a special form permision. ;)

Bquilla comments on What do you miss the most?

We miss the great interstate highway system.

Bquilla comments on which city...

Cartagena is very nice city too with much history. From one city to the other just is 1hrs 45 min. We love both and if you have the oportunity visit both.

Bquilla comments on Wedding in Medellin... need help

Probably a good indicator for the party to break up. The group we hired were friends of my wife so they kept on going, plus they were drinking just as much as everyone else so not a problem with them staying. The first couple of hours with our reception were takin up with the photog taking pictures, dinner, toasts, speach or two, etc etc so we really did not have our first dance, yes all eyes on YOU, until a good hour and a half into the reception.

Bquilla comments on Wedding in Medellin... need help

Just thinking... my wife and relatives are from Barranquilla, maybe some Elmodefoque blood in them... could be the reason they did not want to leave the free food and booze!! You are alright in my book Elmo!

Bquilla comments on Wedding in Medellin... need help

depends on how the party is going. 2am to Colombians, least the ones at our party, means another couple hours to party. We had approx 100 guests at the party; half left around midnight, the other half remained until 4am. We really did not force the issue of the guests leaving. I would guess had we asked them to leave they would have done so but I could not have done it as (a: I don't speak Spanish, b: the party was going full blast). The in-laws would probably be best suited to politely inform the guests that the party is over. Even after the reception was finished some of the men met up at my mother-in-laws place and continued to drink...I guess quietly so.

Bquilla comments on Wedding in Medellin... need help

The money bag was quite full by the end of the evening, counted some $850.00 which I thought might make for a little extra on the honeymoon. My wife, however, had other thoughts...she handed it to her mom. Easy come, easy go I suppose. The one bill that really hurt (no vasoline) was when the party passed the alloted time by two hours. The hotel was more than happy to keep the place going and I thought at the time, "how nice of them". Not so when the extra charge of $450 posted on my Visa later that month. In hindsight, probably would have been next to impossiable to push our guests out of the party by the time that we had previuosly paid for anyway. My point, allow for a long reception party. Colombians, as I found out enjoy a good party.

Bquilla comments on Marry in Colombia

Probably should not have made the comment about his grammar. Unless mr. bush was pressed for time he should have given more info. I doubt we will hear from him again. I know if were to post the full name of my wife and her phone number on the internet I'd be spending one very lonely night with our dog on the couch.

Bquilla comments on Marry in Colombia

Hidden Agenda I would assume that since you are teaching in the US you hold a BS? Your "I am english only" comment leads me to think otherwise.

Bquilla comments on

EL Elmo. Some traditions are better left to the history books. I am glad to here that your "Barnyard Follies" days are over. I bet a donkey or two has shed a few tears over the thought of not ever having you as a lover. Anyway, I find that life is less complicated when you have only one wife/girlfriend to tend to. The Guajiro tradition does sound sweet, however, my BQUILLA wife assured me of another COLOMBIAN tradition she would bestow upon me if I attempt to try the Guajiro tradition! And I prefer to keep my body parts attached.

Bquilla comments on WHO FEELS PROUD TO DENIGRATE COLOMBIAN WOMEN???

Bquilla comments on Questions on mentality of Colombian women

Swabianguy,I would be a little suspicious. US$1000 for 3 days is very expensive. Upper class? How knows, maybe is truth maybe not. My advise is keep looking maybe there is a special person waiting for you not for money. Be careful and good luck

Bquilla comments on Colombian Wedding Traditions

I'm agree with Juanalejo, if your fiance is upper class, the tradition is her family pays everything, except decorations and drinks. We had, bilingual father for teh ceromony at church, live music, hundreds of flowers, open bar, dinner, limo, video and photographer, .... My husband and I share cost around US$10.000 total, that's a good way to go. Good luck in your marriage.

Bquilla comments on

Married with girlfriend??? I'll let this topic be as I have no right to pass judgement on another person. Your comments, while being humorous, are somewhat sad.

Bquilla comments on

El In a previous post you had mentioned of having a wife? Not the case? What gives?

Bquilla comments on Wedding Info Please..Please...

echo utopiacowboy post Per my wife, the single most important custom for the groom to be to do for his wife is the tradition of serenading the bride-to-be the night before the wedding. My wife's best friend arranged for three men (played the guitar and sang four songs) to arrive at my future in-laws house the evening before the wedding. I knew nothing of this tradition and was very thankfull for her friend for having arranged this for me. All I did was give each man $20.00 and reaped the rewards 10 fold later that night.

Bquilla comments on Wedding Info Please..Please...

just enjoy the moment Don't focus too much about the sex issue. Plenty of time for that later. Sex was the last thing on our minds having partied and talked for the better part of 10 hours. Try your best to enjoy your wedding...don't just be in it. Don't get wasted but do enjoy yourself.

Bquilla comments on Wedding Info Please..Please...

SeattleJames Congrats! One thing I thought odd at my my wife and I Colombian wedding was the fact that the brides maids, maid of honor, my best man, did not stand at the alter with my wife and I...as is the case when one marries in the US. We paid for all the dresses, tux, etc (I believe we had about 18 people) just to have them take a seat in the church. My wife said that is the custom in Colombia. Also, the reception lasted well past the alloted time that we had paid for at the hotel...started at 8pm, finished around 5am...an additional expense. We will be in BQUILLA later this month. I'll look for the fireworks on your special day!
