bobbyb comments on USA tourist Visa Nope I have always been bobbyb. Thanks for the responses. I knew the answer beforehand but I just needed to confirm what I already knew.

bobbyb comments on why should we change the way we dress? Fair is fair I'll stop wearing shorts and sandles in Colombia if the Colombianas stop wearing those long pointy ass shoes when they come here. All's ya' gotta' do is put a little upward curve on them with a little bell and Santa will hire them in a minute. God help us if the gringas start wearing them here, we'll all end up with A-holes as big as the burritos Elmo screws

bobbyb comments on $500 ...For real or not.? Its true She needs cash in her bolsa AND a hotel reservation. You cannot meet her before the she is interviewed by the Panamanian immigration. She really needs to show the money and the reservation. $500 will get her about 3 weeks in Panama. Stop being a cheap ass limey and give her the money, just have her give it back to you when you meet her

bobbyb comments on Where are we? Please put your "pin" on the map Nice map Reminds me of when my daughter took me to Disney World and made me get on that boat ride where the all the puppets are from every country of the world and singing in their native tongues “It’s a small world after all”

bobbyb comments on Can my colombian fiancee use US Medicaid benefit? Peach Care for Kids in Georgia Is a state run insurance plan that bases your payments on your income. When I lived there I paid $7 per month for my daughter. It included all medical and dental care. I'm not sure about covering the birth of a baby but you should really check it out

bobbyb comments on G-325A Form call us if you need more help. Just make sure that his address is correct. The mail is awful in colombia. If you receive mail from the NVC before he does you need to start looking out for him.

bobbyb comments on G-325A Form yeah that's Ok I filled it out for my GF and she just signed it, not knowing what it said. I hope she signs the pre-nup as easy :)

bobbyb comments on Col. architect getting registered in the U.S.? oh yeah I did a lot of the research myself to help her out. I didn't use any organization and this was before the internet. I contacted each state and had them send me their requirements. If you pass the test in that state then you get licensed in that state. What I do KNOW is that you must apply to the State they regulate it all and administer the test. They have the information you need. You can do this yourself.
bobbyb comments on Col. architect getting registered in the U.S.? about 20 years ago Each state has different requirements to obtain the license. The testing is done by the State and not the AIA. And there's a special government department that handles the testing, maybe the Secertary of State Department. Some states will forego the diplomias and degrees and allow you to substitute that with work history, if you have so much experiance they give you credit for it. In that way Wisconsin was the most liberal, with, I think, Vermont or New Hampshire being next.
bobbyb comments on Col. architect getting registered in the U.S.? It's been a long time but my ex-wife is an architect too. She needed to take a test which you need to qualify for. The easiest state to take the test is Wisconsin. Check out the states' requirements. Maybe the AIA (American Institute Of Architects) website can help you.

bobbyb comments on Abnormal request by embassy? On the whole they're idiots. There is no communications at the front desk. They refuse to give you any information even after you buy the PIN. And the people answering the phones speak english with a really thick accent so much so that you can't understend half of what they are telling you. It wasn't until I contacted my Congresswoman that things started to roll. Since then I have been in contact with the embassy via e-mail and they promptly answered and have been very helpful. I guess you just have to shoot your way through the front lines. It gets frustrating and it's a lesson in patience.

bobbyb comments on Abnormal request by embassy? You'd think that the embassy would give ya' a heads up but then again I should have remembered with whom I'm dealing with.

bobbyb comments on Selling a car in Panama sorry guys I don't know nothing about taxes but stick with the jeep
bobbyb comments on Selling a car in Panama Jeep jeep If you bring a nice, pretty Jeep you can sell it to some rich gringo for double your cost. Gas is cheap there, about the same as the US and Panama is a rich country. There are not many around because they’re a classic and it may take you longer to sell. I brought a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee, paid 8k and was offered 20k. If you bring a Toyota or Nissan you’ll sell it quicker but the profit will be lower. They’re all over the place especially the Mitsuibishi, Montero. I’d take the Jeep any day over all the others.

bobbyb comments on Any colombians in the NW of the US? She has replaced her passport and cedula. It's too late to get her on the December list so we will shoot for Jan. In the mean time I have rented my property here in Georgia and I will be moving to Connecticutt next week. I think it will be easier for her to acclimate there rather than here in rural Georgia. I have not seen snow in 17 years and in parts of CT. they have 8 feet of snow. The people are different too. They're taciturn and I'm expecting a bit of culture shock and I'll have to get use to their accent

bobbyb comments on Any colombians in the NW of the US? I ain't colombian but I lived in Burien, Wa. at the end of the Sea-Tac runway back in the mid 70's and sometimes I felt like I was the only Yankee in town. I loved the people, they're more progressive than these here Southerners but the rain is too much. That area of the country has the highest suicide rate during the rainy months, which I think is like 13 months long. So keep thinking happy thought's during the rain.

bobbyb comments on What interesting countries in the world ... Pamana and Aruba I'm sure of Panama. She only needs enough cash to show the Immigration guys at the airport. Something like $100 for each week that she'll be there and have reservations at a hotel. They'll let her in no problem

bobbyb comments on In a pigs ass I think I see a little condridiction here elmo buddy. I remember asking you why is it that when us gringos go to latinland we are mauled by the girls, (sometimes guys too)but when I go to a latin club here they treat us like crap. You responded and I'll paraphrase;

bobbyb comments on Change interview date possible? here's what happened to me, we also had to postpone the interview of October 21. I sent an e-mail to the Colombian embassy through their web site and told them why we had to postpone the interview. I did this like 2 days before the interview. They sent me a response within 2 days and simply thanked me for the information and that they would take note of it. I did not specifically request another interview because I was not sure of how long it would take to resolve our problem. I just said it may take a few months. The next thing I know we were on the list for November, and I also got another invitation letter for the new date. I was very surprised.

bobbyb comments on who is giving the wrong info?visa center or embassy? My GF has not received one document from the embassy. I have been receiving everything from the American Embassy in Colombia but with a Washington DC postal stamp. I think that they process a lot in DC and have electronic communications with Bogota so that alot of information is instantly sent to Bogota, backed up with the documents being sent to you.

bobbyb comments on GOD I don't understand my gf! I'm wondering that if colombians don't put a TV in their living room, does everyone pile onto the bed when the football game is on? It's very bad for your neck to watch TV in bed. I wanna see my GF put my 5 foot giant screen TV on the dresser

bobbyb comments on Interview postponement Thanks guys It's good to see you back Cam. The congresswoman was my lifesaver. She found out everything for me. She was great. It's about time those politicians helped. I also received a very prompt(next day) response from the embassy using IVBogota at state.gov

bobbyb comments on travelling with own Car We are talking about this on another thread. "driving to Colombia"
bobbyb comments on Driving to Colombia Mr Hollywood I don't know about all the hype, I just know that it was a very safe and somewhat easy ride. Lots of great little places to hang out at for cheap. Hell, women and children walk the total length of the Pan Am highway. When you figure your budget you need to add extra for the propinas at the borders, I don't think there's anyway around not paying them. Patience is a big key at the borders I don't think you could make things go any faster by complaining.
bobbyb comments on Driving to Colombia a few more tips Everything we throw away goes south of the border. At one border they were using a typewriter that we threw away after world war 2. They make “Chivas” outta our old school buses. Before they paint ‘em they’re still yellow school buses that flash their lights and throw up the stop sign, it fools 'ya, You automatically stop and then see 40 people fall out the back door and the people behind you are yelling at you to keep moving. Don’t follow real close ‘cause their rear lights don’t work. There’s pigs, goats and cows on the road. People use the road as their social network, go slow. Everything needs to be vacuumed, pressure washed and painted. It’s filthy, trash everywhere. The main thing is just take your time and drive slow, you’ll enjoy it more.

bobbyb comments on Driving to Colombia Great adventure You’ve gotta bring Kaopectate & Pepto Bismol. Eat fish, no meat. You gotta speak Spanish to cross the borders and ask directions. You get lost everyday. You will be surrounded by hordes of people that will scare the shit outta ya’. Get use to it. They all want your money. You’re a gringo and you can’t hide it. You’ve gotta pay a propina to all the officials and cops. I told one border patrol, “screw ya propina”, they let me through but 2 miles down the road they set up a road block, stopped me, threw my shit in the road, said I stole my jeep then they all jumped in and made me go back to the police station, they liked the AC so I turned it off and the CD player, made me sit on a rock while they called the FBI. I lost the whole day and ended up paying a propina 4 times the norm, 5 bucks each is good. Once you get into the country you will be surrounded by hordes of girls. Bring plenty of American rubbers. I brought a machete and everyone let me keep it. I kept it right next to me. But I never needed it. I did use it to crack open coconuts.
