Blue comments on What City In Colombia has The Smartest Women??

Many would say that intelligence would follow a standard normal distribution and therefore no one city would have an advantage over the other. You could, however, argue possibly that Bogota has more educated women but of course this begs the question since education doesn’t necessarily equate to native ability. Some would argue that areas with the greatest concentration of “European white blood” would have the most intelligent women. These people would probably be considered racists. lol

Blue comments on Colombian Scientists Continue to Produce World Class Results

Platano I'm sure you've heard of Julio Garavito a Colombian astronomer who has a significant crater on the moon named after him. I'm taking an astrophysics class in Berkeley this summer and his crater was mentioned in reference to another crater and an exchange student from Venezuela let the class know his origins and significance in Colombia science.

gib Very interesting post. One of the better ones for getting some insight on a gringos experience; particularly your perception and experience of their women. Why not network with some American and European women? There's got to be thousands of them in Bogota who similarly want a "dating" culture more like their own.

Blue comments on The Grass Is Always Greener on the Other Side

Some more observations on Bill Gates... Hardly a rags-to-riches story here. Comes from a fairly prominent upper-middle class family going back several generations. Some poster above mentioned that he was an average programmer. I don’t know about this but it wouldn’t be surprising despite a whopping 1590 score on his SAT. A few of his Harvard professors, however, recall that he was a mediocre student. His SAT score was surely bolstered by his attending Lakeside prep school where you get several years of “test prep”. lol Anyway, biographers surmise that when he realized at Harvard he wasn’t the “math genius” that he thought he was, “Plan B” was born. The rest is Microsoft history. Many contend that he “borrowed” the basic ideas from others. Steve Jobs of Apple fame to be specific. This is likely because he’s never impressed others as being particularly creative. Intelligent and driven but not very creative. There’s no question that Jobs is the creative one in this field and Gates the very rich one.

Emigrants appear to be profoundly alienated in some sociological sense. Most people have sufficiently strong ties to their families, friends and other social institutions to preclude them from ever even considering leaving their home country. I’m not suggesting they’re “abnormal” just alienated and disconnected from their communities.

Miguel here's a good one for this thread...but don't ask me to sing it. lol
(Tammy Wynette)
Sometimes it's hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You'll have bad times, he'll have good times
Doin' things that you don't understand
But if you love him, you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him, oh be proud of him
'Cause after all he's just a man.
Stand by your man, give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely.
Stand by your man, and show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can.
Stand by your man.
Stand by your man, and show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can.
Stand by your man.

Nothing Changes lol The festival was over and the boys were all planning for a fall
The cabaret was quiet except for the drilling in the wall
The curfew had been lifted and the gambling wheel shut down
Anyone with any sense had already left town
He was standing in the doorway looking like the Jack of Hearts.

He moved across the mirrored room "Set it up for everyone" he said
Then everyone commenced to do what they were doin' before he turned their heads
Then he walked up to a stranger and he asked him with a grin
"Could you kindly tell me friend what time the show begins ?"
Then he moved into the corner face down like the Jack of Hearts.

Backstage the girls were playing five card stud by the stairs
Lily had two queens she was hoping for a third to match her pair
Outside the streets were filling up, the window was open wide
A gentle breeze was blowing, you could feel it from inside
Lily called another bet and drew up the Jack of Hearts.

Big Jim was no one's fool, he owned the town's only diamond mine
He made his usual entrance looking so dandy and so fine
With his bodyguards and silver cane and every hair in place
He took whatever he wanted to and he laid it all to waste
But his bodyguards and silver cane were no match for the Jack of Hearts.

Rosemary combed her hair and took a carriage into town
She slipped in through the side door looking like a queen without a crown
She fluttered her false eyelashes and whispered in his ear
"Sorry darling, that I'm late", but he didn't seem to hear
He was starring into space over at the Jack of Hearts.

"I know I've seen that face somewhere" Big Jim was thinking to himself
"Maybe down in Mexico or a picture up on somebodys shelf"
But then the crowd began to stamp their feet and the house lights did dim
And in the darkness of the room there was only Jim and him
Starring at the butterfly who just drew the Jack of Hearts.

Lily was a princess she was fair-skinned and precious as a child
She did whatever she had to do she had that certain flash every time she smiled
She'd come away from a broken home had lots of strange affairs
With men in every walk of life which took her everywhere
But she's never met anyone quite like the Jack of Hearts.
The hanging judge came in unnoticed and was being wined and dined
The drilling in the wall kept up but no one seemed to pay it any mind
It was known all around that Lily had Jim's ring
And nothing would ever come between Lily and the king
No nothing ever would except maybe the Jack of Hearts.

Rosemary started drinking hard and seeing her reflection in the knife
She was tired of the attention tired of playing the role of Big Jim's wife
She had done a lot of bad things even once tried suicide
Was looking to do just one good deed before she died
She was gazing to the future riding on the Jack of Hearts.

Lily took her dress off and buried it away
"Has your luck turn out" she laughed at him'.
"Well I guess you must have known it would someday
Be careful not to touch the wall there's a brand new coat of paint
I'm glad to see you're still alive you're looking like a saint"
Down the hallway footsteps were coming for the Jack of Hearts.

The backstage manager was pacing all around by his chair
"There's something funny going on" he said " I can just feel it in the air"
He went to get the hanging judge but the hanging judge was drunk
As the leading actor hurried by in the costume of a monk
There was no actor anywhere better than the Jack of Hearts.

No one knew the circumstance, but they say it happened pretty quick
The door to the dressing room burst open a cold revolver clicked
And big Jim was standing there ya couldn't say surprised
Rosemary right beside him steady in her eyes
She was with big Jim but she was leaning to the Jack of Hearts.

Two doors down the boys finally made it through the wall
And cleaned out the bank safe it's said that they got off with quite a haul
In the darkness by the riverbed they waited on the ground
For one more member who had business back in town
But they couldn't go no further without the Jack of Hearts.

The next day was hanging day the sky was overcast and black
Big Jim lay covered up killed by a penknife in the back
And Rosemary on the gallows she didn't even blink
The hanging judge was sober he hadn't had a drink
The only person on the scene missing was the Jack of Hearts.
The cabaret was empty now a sign said. "Closed for repair"
Lily had already taken all of the dye out of her hair
She was thinking about her father who she was rarely saw
Thinking about Rosemary and thinking about the law
But most of all she was thinking about the Jack of Hearts.(Bob Dylan)

Blue comments on Question about Medellin girls

Blue comments on Question about Medellin girls

skatefrog There’s no harm in letting your husband indulge his fantasy. You already know the right answer. btw: The U.S. has far more women who are physically stunning than Colombia, Venezuela, etc., etc. combined. Preoccupation with appearance by a country adds something to its “Beauty Quotient” but doesn’t change the way nature configures a woman. Implants, nose jobs, tucks, etc. only create the illusion of beauty. Nothing more than the most casual observation readily shatters this pretense. Will the children of these false beauties miraculously enter the world with straight noses, ideal bone structure and the proper symmetry? Think again. lol

Speaking of beautiful women.....
How many people have not had the powerful experience of a chance encounter with someone who completely captures your attention but due to circumstances you know nothing will ever come of it? James Blunt’s poignant lyrics are a reminder of the universality of this disappointment. What does this have to do with Colombia? lol It motivates guys to head south hoping they can get something there which is only a dream in the states.

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
flying high,
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.
You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Blue comments on Most beatiful women

Country with the most beautiful women? None of the above. Or more appropriately the one with the largest population. Beauty more or less follows a normal distribution or bell curve in occurrence. Most women will be bunched in the middle (average looking) while a few will be on the tails of the distribution (beautiful and ugly). It is true that countries obsessed with physical appearance (maybe Venezuela and Colombia), will seem to be skewed to a more higher average. These countries will have significant numbers of women engaging in surgeries and other beauty enhancing techniques. But ultimately, the women who are considered truly beautiful will be the same, quite rare and determined to be so with remarkable consistency among objective observers

Blue comments on "We're less than we thought"

This author has some observations.... http://www.migrationinformation.org/Profiles/print.cfm?ID=344

"Economic and political motives are often hard to disentangle as drivers of "voluntary" migration, but it seems clear that politics play an increasingly important role in Colombians' decision to migrate, most commonly expressed in the fear of generalized violence and threats to personal safety or that of close relatives. Prospects of political stability, security, and economic opportunities in other countries act as strong "pull" factors."

Blue comments on United States Immigration Policy

I saw an interview with a group in Arizona who believe if legislation fails to secure the border that all options should be put on the table. These include: invading Mexico, summary execution by firing squad, land mines, and small tactical nuclear weapons. Tough group. lol

Blue

Blue comments on United States Immigration Policy

Well my own preference would be very little or no immigration at all...at least for several years. If immigrants are allowed in, impose the standards at the beginning of the process rather than the end. English literacy and whatever "citzenship" criteria they now use should be required before entry. This will weed out the non-serious and improve the immigrant quality.

Blue

Blue comments on United States Immigration Policy

Miguel Those from northern europe were average and above. Let today's immigrants in only if they can pass a literacy test in english. It doesn't have to be an IQ test. They can demonstrate potential realized with an achievement test.

Blue comments on Colombiche, need some help....(survey question for counseling class)

Let’s ask the girl students this question in another way. Given a choice, would you rather have an IQ of 130 and be average looking or be stunningly beautiful with normal intelligence? An IQ of 130 will put you in the 98th percentile in intelligence as measured by IQ tests. You will have the intellectual capacity to be trained for just about any profession or job. Take your pick: professor, doctor, lawyer, etc. the sky is the limit. In fact, at this level, you can basically train yourself. You will learn things much more quickly than most of your colleagues.

Or you can choose to be very physically attractive with normal intelligence. A few examples of this might be Angelina Jolie and Jessica Alba. Very few people would not consider these women to be uncommonly beautiful. Acting would be a real possibility for a career although the odds would still be stacked against hitting it big in Hollywood. With normal intelligence, you could be trained for most jobs in the economy. You could even aspire to a complex professional job but would have to work extremely hard and probably fail many times before achieving your goal. On the other hand, you would have far more men to choose from than your average woman. In fact, you would virtually have your pick of men. You could marry very rich and maybe even famous with little effort. Be aware, however, that nature is very cruel to women and your beauty will rapidly fade.

I think most will choose beauty.

Blue comments on Soundproofing an Apartment?

tlop I agree with the previous poster it's probably going to cost a bundle. Do you have the landlord's permission? Could be a big problem if you do something without the landlord's permission. I had a similar situation many years ago but changes were impractical and very expensive. I would guess new technology now makes it more practical but still expensive. We were in a very small(4 unit) apt. complex and finally simply bought the other two tenants who were bothered by noise a 3 speed fan they could run when noise became a nuisance. This "white noise" works wonders. A fan can drown out a lot of unwanted noise. You can place them in a corner up against the wall and even cover them so you get the hum of the fan but no wind. If you only have a few in the building that you bother buying fans would be much cheaper than soundproofing your place. Maybe even offer a little for electric. Something to think about.

Blue comments on Strategies for dating "good" Colombianas

There is something to be said for marrying a woman who has had children. I believe Caulfield indicated this was acceptable to him in his original post. These women are particularly appropriate for guys who want their wives to be their “best friend” as well as lover, etc. Let me explain. The birth of a child satisfies the maternal instinct and has a tendency to mellow and soften a woman. This need is deeply rooted in their DNA. A woman is complete and has reached her nirvana once this is accomplished. This is the most fundamental law of nature and is immutable. A certain peace and tranquility overcomes them. They are easier to be around.

Now take women who have never had children and a different dynamic emerges. This is particularly so with women over 30 but probably most apparent at about age 40. These women are often perceived by others as angry, hostile, bitchy, etc. Women under 30 still have sufficient biological clock remaining so with them it’s not such an issue(usually). But with these others, head for cover fast. lol It’s like they have a chronic low-grade PMS that is never-ending. Guys understandably don’t like spending time around these women so friendship becomes more difficult.

Blue

Blue comments on Strategies for dating "good" Colombianas

Well Caulfield...
Here you go again trying to impose your values and ethics on others. “Anyway, thanks for posting. The more women like yourself who post here, the better off this site will be, and the more pressure there will be on morphus to quit pandering to the lowest common denominator” Intolerance for another’s lifestyle is becoming a major theme in your thinking…lol

Anyway, about your original question. I would guess the most important thing to look for after your standard criteria, would be adaptability. Your concerns about a woman’s independence and also education might help answer whether she could adapt when she leaves her home for the culture-shock she surely will face in the U.S. The U.S. is not an easy place to live for many if not most immigrants. Unless you speak perfect English without any accent, second-class citizenship is a reality. Even so for those who are from “white countries” and have been here for decades. If you have an accent, at some level, you’re considered inferior and people wonder why you’re here. This is especially true for non-whites. I’m sure that’s part of the reason why they don’t assimilate well and form their own communities. This adaptability issue also applies to a guy. Bring a foreign wife to the states and expect others to question your motives and assume an inability to get an American babe due to some defect. This may not occur within your own family but will inevitably happen in other situations.

So how do you determine whether someone can resist these things and make a successful adaptation to what awaits them? It might be one of those things that’s so unique that only the experience itself will tell. Otherwise, carefully look for clues of general adaptability across a wide variety of situations.

I’m sure you’ll end up with a classy woman. The best marriage advice I got was from my grandfather just prior to my first marriage: Go into marriage with both eyes wide open. After marriage you’ll have to close one eye to keep things on an even keel.

Blue comments on Trying to Understand

Caulfield
I like reading your posts. It’s fun, however, to take a few jabs at those who appear overly-judgmental and authoritarian. You appear that way in this thread and seem to be trying to impose your worldview on others. Things like: “However, there are commonly-accepted means of expressing oneself” and “unless he changes his member name and starts acting like a decent human being” suggest a certain intolerance. The age difference thing is another. People at the age of consent can make their own decisions. Btw: if things don’t work out with your hot Russian wife you can always send her my way..lol

Wastelandlive Maybe it shows how puritanical some people are about sex. They are always trying to distort, deny and otherwise repress human nature. lol Let’s keep it simple for the moment: People who are at the age of consent can freely express their own free will. No outside authority has any right to interfere and subvert their choice of dating partners. This is a universal truth applicable everywhere. We’ll save an analysis of moral and ethical questions for another day. My favorite Pink Floyd song: lol

We don't need no education
We dont need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom

Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!

Teacher/Student Teachers are socialized into believing these relationships are inherently wrong. They try to suppress the laws of nature in order to maintain the illusion of social control. Haha Morphus could find some action out here in California although he'd have to pick his spots. The San Francisco Bay area would pretty much be off limits to him. Too sophisticated there and the women too brainy although there are some places but it would take patience and he'd have to be on his best behavior with no body odor. Southern California is another story. Starting at Santa Barbara on the coast and heading down the beach towns to San Diego would be a mother lode for him. L.A. also. Best place would be Pacific Beach in San Diego. Party central for guys like Morphus; but just up the road in La Jolla he'd get run out of town..lol Would one of these women want to permanently stick her hooks in him...maybe...but one night stands would be plentiful. Anywhere in California he could find himself a rich 45-50 something for a sugar momma.

Caulfield... If we start from the premise that “love is nothing more than the exchange of two fantasies and the melding of flesh” (forget author) we can look at this from another perspective. In other words, these relationships defy logic. Even more so than when a culture is shared between two people. But I like your mutual exploitation theory. Maybe not such a bad thing. Well.. When I cross streets in Mexico, Costa Rica, etc. I usually just cross diagonally and work through the traffic. This way works for someone who is able-bodied and non-crippled. Maybe not so good for others. Seems like it would work in Colombia as well. You don't even have to use a crosswalk and in these other countries I've found that once the traffic is stopped they are much more willing to let you cross over and maneuver around them. Just make eye contact wave and you're good to go. It never hurts to have your sprinting shoes on either. lol
