peso dropping fast now-whats going on?

As a Norwegian often traveling in Colombia the US dollar to peso exchange doesn't matter as I draw my pesos from ATM and as such only the peso/norwegian kroner exchange rate matters for me. Just a week ago 1000 pesos cost me 3.1 norwegian kroner according to the yahoo currency converter, men today (30 june) its falled down to 2.65 for 1000 pesos. That's the fastest drop I have seen for years. Whats happening to the pesos now? You guys which deal in US dollar; have you also seen such a dramatic ...

Language course at Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, Medellin

Just found the website of this course: http://convena.upb.edu.co/~cdelenguas/ele.html http://convena.upb.edu.co/~cdelenguas/4iexplorer/index.html I don't know anything about this uni or its courses, but like the fact that campus is in Laureles. In my opinin a very nice neighborhood and much better and cheaper to live there than in Poblado (where EAFIT is located) Anyone has any first hand experience about this uni? Bjorn ...

Buying books online: any tax to pay when shipping to Colombia?

If buying books online (amazon.....) and have them sent to Colombia: are there any tax or custom fees to pay? I assume they are taxfree, but just wanted to ask to make sure. What about books with CD included (for example dictionaries)?

Happy planet index: Colombia no 2

It's confirmed another time: Colombians are among the happiest people on the planet according to The New Economic Foundation.

No 1 is the small island state of Vanuatu. Colombia is second. It's interesting to note that all countries in central and south america are among the top 10 in the happiness index. There is appearently something about life in this part of the world which makes people happy.

Any teachers here, currently working in Colombia?

How is working as a teacher in Colombia? I am a Norwegian teacher currently working in a public secondary school in Norway. When I lived a year in Colombia I, like most other people on this site, really appreciated the friendliness of the Colombian people. I am currently struggling with disruptive pupils in my classes and would really appreciate working in a place where the pupils are a litttle bit more wellbehaved.I don't expect kids to behave like angels, but the situation in Norway is really ...

Bad English at the Centro Colombo Bucamaranga

Have a look here:

http://www.colombobucaramanga.edu.co/Eng/cursos.html

Even I, a non-native English speaker, very easily found lots of error in this webpage. I especially liked the following abstract:

"PROEFICIENCY IN ENGLISH LANGUAJE CERTIFICATE"

They offer a course which apparently leads to proficiency in the English language and can't even write neither proficiency nor language correctly.

Buying mosquito repellent in Colombia.

Last time I was in Colombia I had problems finding mosquito repellent which were really efficient in the rainforest. The best repellent is of course repellent containing DEET. However, I dont want to soak my skin in 100 % DEET

I know there is a good repellent containing about 35% DEET like the 3M Ultrathon which is supposed to be the best. Anyone know if this or equvalent is available in Colombia
