Billy comments on Learning Spanish in Colombia

Universidad de Los Andes y HTL I attended the program in Los Andes and it was a full quarter for $300. I didn't say bad things about HTL, its a great school, but its not worth $1200. You can get 3 to 4 quarters at an accredited university for the same price. There is almost no grammar in the Spanish program, you will need to study Spanish grammar someplace else. You will have fun and learn to speak and understand Spanish, but if you're studying for a degree in Spanish, you'll need to look at other programs. Javeriana University has a good program too. I had a friend who worked for the embassy who studied there and her Spanish is fantastic. The best way to learn is to go out in the streets and talk to people.

Billy comments on Marriage documentation

US Citizen born in Germany, Military Brat Where did you get a new copy of your birth certificate. My Dad was in the Air Force in Landstuhl when I was born and I have the original US Foreign Service and the original German one. I was thinking about getting a notorized copy of my original, but it sounds like I will need a new one. I can find websites to get them from the state that you were born in, but nothing if you were born overseas as a military brat. Thanks.

Billy comments on Question about marriage documents

Marriage Visa Not Required? What did you need to get married in Colombia without the marriage visa. I read on the embassy site that you needed one and could not get married on a tourist visa? Thanks.

Billy comments on Shipping a computer and books to Colombia

Shipping to Colombia These will be textbooks from my university and there will be no hurry. I was figuring about 3 months. I'm looking at getting a laptop to take instead of my home computer, but I might see if the tower is within the dimensions of a carry on and buy a bag to carry it with me onboard. Thanks for the info.

Shipping to Colombia Thanks, I haven't bought my tickets yet and I think I'm going to get a laptop. The other stuff is all textbooks from my university that I will need in my career, but I think it will be cheaper to mail them, than to replace them all. Thanks for the info.

Billy comments on Learning Spanish in Colombia

Learning Spanish in Bogota High Technology in Learning was a very good school when it cost $350 US per level (only last year). They now want $1250. US per level which is outragous for Colombia. They offer a discount if you pay online before you go if you're an international student. Don't do it because then you are trapped and out of alot of money that you could enjoy site seeing and dancing with. Its better just to go and then check it out and see what you can find. Colombian people are great and I'm sure that someone will help you find a good school for no more that $350. US per level. You can attend classes at Los Andes University (the best in Colombia) for about $300 a level.
