Be extra careful at the airports. Professional thieves abound. I took my eyes off my luggage for 2 seconds...yes, 2 seconds...as I was loading one into the trunk of a car in Bogota a few days ago, and I turned and the other one was gone. Not sure what I could or should have done about it...except that it is better to do it without a lot of people standing around. It shortened my trip and was a real bummer...
So be SUPER careful.

I have lots of extra frequent flyer miles if anyone wants them for a trip to Colombia. It takes 35,000 miles and I would sell them for $550. If this saves you money over the cost of a cash ticket, contact me.
In addition, miles seats are good for up to a full year in Colombia! Or they are great to use when moving someone up here, since the lower cost cash tickets are only good for 30 or 60 days.
The thing with using miles are that you need to have some flexibil ...
When I was in Bogota last month I had an interesting conversation with my girlfriend on home buying in Colombia. She stated that she would never buy a house on time, i.e., borrowing to buy the house. She wanted to own it and only have to pay the utilities and administration on it every month. She didn't even think it was home ownership if you borrow to buy it! She was very adament about all of this.
I couldn't understand why she felt this way...after all, we do just the oppos ...
Hi all.... as usual, there are always great posts on here...I love it, especially the variety of travelers on here. This is just a quick post to say that I have a friend who has a ton of frequent flyer miles. He too goes to Colombia but always has extra miles due to heavy flying and from credit card usage.
It takes 35,000 miles for a miles ticket to Colombia, or 70,000 if you want to go Business Class.
You can save a lot over regular of bulk fares, plus all change ...
I am very familiar with the use of ATM machines for getting out small amounts of money down there....but what about if you need a large amount...like $5,000 or more. What is the cheapest way to exchange dollars to get this amount? Do I open up a bank account with dollars, exchanging them for pesos? Can't really do it with a debit card because they have daily limits. Or is there a black market there for this kind of exchange, although I figure the black market is more into selling dollars not ...
Does anyone know of a map of Medellin on the web...showing the different neighborhoods? I can't seem to tell where El Poblado barrio is in relation to other neighborhoods.
Also, there is another barrio there called "villa hermosa los angeles suramericana".
Basically, I'm trying to figure out where this latter one is in relation to the El Poblado barrio. And to see a map of ALL the barrios.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks.
Can anyone tell me Peter's email....the man who is in charge of the forum?

...I'm renting a place at one of the Traveler's Suites in Bogota in September for a month with a friend. From Sept. 5th to Oct. 5th. It's in the north and is a very very nice place. It's an extended stay type of place, with all the amenities, i.e., free breakfast, internet, laundry, security, safe box in room, cable TV, phone, gym, close to mall...and you can have guests for no added fees!!
But I only will need it for 20 days. It is a two bedroom. One bedroom will be available. ...
I am a poster here and also a frequent traveler to Colombia. The least expensive way to fly to Colombia is to buy some frequent flyer miles from someone who has a ton of them. You then make the reservation and he or she redeems their miles to pay for it and the ticket is then yours. Many business people have earned tons of miles, and have little use for them.
I and my friends have tons of them and can offer them to you at a price less than the cost of a regular ticket, in som ...
My question is on guesthouses in Bogota. And no I do not mean hotels, nor do I mean B at B's. Also, not the Dona Flor one, since it is too far from the north.
I think the Travelers Suites are some, but still a bit big. Bogota is supposed to be full of guesthouses, but can't seem to locate a guide for them. For those that don't know, guesthouses are usually large houses with lots of rooms, with a shared kitchen, one entryway, no sign out front, etc..

I am a poster here, and also a frequent traveler to Colombia. If you want to fly cheap to Colombia from the U.S. and Canada, I have some extra miles in my account. It takes 35,000 frequent flyer miles to fly to Bogota. If your costs of flying are $700 or more I can save you a bundle by selling you my unused miles. I do this on a friend to friend basis only, and only to my fellow travelers to Bogota. I do this because I have more miles than I need...plus it seems that Colombia is one of the more ...
