big kugz comments on and on the cop note I trust one about as far as I can throw him. Decent ones do exist, but the vast majority that I know who are corrupted, hate-filled thugs suffer from Napolean Complex and ruin it for the rest of em. Sorry Morphus, you might be a stand up kinda guy, but I would never tell you anything that could be misconstrued, twisted, re-fabricated, and used as evidence against me in some trumped up charge (ie. the time of day).

big kugz comments on Modefoque I disagree only with the fact that Mexico's women are not for sale. every time I have crossed the border, I am disgusted by the cantidad de ni&itos tryin to sell their older sister for a dollar or two. Not to say this is a Mexican problem, it is a human problem. However, to say that any particular group of people has too much pride to stoop that low is just wrong. There are dumb gringos/as that marry/have sex with others for money all the time, and there are wonderful people from barrio Villate to Mongolia that marry for love and not greencards. Let the lil injuns come and do the work that most lazy ass gringos would suffer heart attacks attempting, but let's not say that they are above the social ills of the world.

big kugz comments on Racial Attitudes of Colombian Women Teddy Racism is everywhere. My personal experience is that it is much worse in Latin America than anywhere outside of Africa. However, of course there are people who do not care... just a matter of finding them.

big kugz comments on 21 candidates to the new seven wonders of the modern world I think They should just make the entire country of Colombia one of the wonders. There is no way to single out one specific marvel there, simply too many. Maybe Miss Colombia 2007?

big kugz comments on Rosario Tijeras Is it just me or do all the stories, shows and books from Colombia depress the shit out of everyone??? 100 Years of Solitude (or anything Garcia Marquez), Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso, Rosario Tijeras... WTF is up with Colombian art??? Everytime I watch a movie or novela or read a book I want to hide in darkness for like a week! Could someone suggest something Colombiano to read that won't bring me one step closer to suicide?

big kugz comments on The Curramberos that I've met for some reason seem to be WAY cooler than most other people from Colombia, or any other part of the world. There definitely IS something special about the costa caribe&a de Colombia. More easy going, more realistic yet magical at the same time. Many of the cachacas and paisas that I've met were too upity or greedy (not trying to generalize, just my experience). Maybe it's just the lasting effect of having watched Sin Tetas no Hay Paraiso too many times, but I believe that Quilleras are less likely to be obsessed with monetary prospects and more conserned with the increasing popularity of the wack ass wanna-be vallenato that they listen to in the interior and try to shove down the throats of coste&os via the cachaco owned stations than they are with finding a rich idiot to marry. Ivan Villazon said it best himself de parranda con el coronel Franco Arguelles... "tienen buen oferta, saben cocinar, no quieren montar a uno ahi... y esas son... las chicas de barranquilla!" Or maybe he was talkin about Valledupar, or la Guajira... or all of the above I can't recall. Whatever the case, viva la costa Colombiana, and remember, "Con coste&a vives mas"!

big kugz comments on Empanadas forgot to mention you should cook them immediately. If you want to save them before cooking, I suggest using a vaccuum sealer and placing a small piece of tin foil between each one to prevent them from freezing together (for me, this led to a very dire knifepenetrateshand situation). They keep very well this way and taste WAY better than freezing them after cooking.

big kugz comments on After a few JD's and coke we decided to move to Bogota... Okay Desi, but I would argue that the opposite is true. It is my personal experience that WEALTH, not poverty creates the emphasis on materialism and taking advantage of every situation. At least where I am from, if you are wealthy and were not born into it then you obtained that wealth by taking advantage of everything and everyone around you. That isn't to say that all wealthy people in the world have done things that way... just my personal experience. On the other hand (at least in Colombia), poverty has appeared to me to be a true blessing in disguise. All of the middle/upper class folks I've met in Colombia (including my wife's godmother... greedy witch), or any other place I've been would charge their own mother for a favor, and don't want anything to do with anyone who isn't as wealthy as they are. That is my idea of materialism, and I haven't seen it at all in barrio Villate. Here, in West Michigan, YES very much so. There, minimal if it even exists. Again, of course, this is my personaly experience and I am not trying to speak for all rich people or all poor people.

big kugz comments on After a few JD's and coke we decided to move to Bogota... And the accent thing as much as I despise listening to it, I think that it must be easier to learn to understand a limey than a yankee. The pronunciation of our vowels here in the US changes too much from region to region, where a brit speaks like a brit no matter where they were born. Or perhaps I'm just an ignorant yank who hasn't spent enough time eating fish and chips in GB to know any better.

big kugz comments on After a few JD's and coke we decided to move to Bogota... Desideria What's wrong with marrying someone who is poor. I have been poor my whole life, and my wife is from one of the poorest barrios in Barranquilla (villate). She has never asked me for anything and actually wanted me to move there when we decided to get married (which i plan on doing after i graduate). Her entire family is very poor, very humble and some of the most fantastic people I've ever met. They too would never ask us for anything. Unless you were being sarcastic and i'm just not bright enough to pick up on it, I think you've got it twisted. I believe that I am much better off having married someone who isn't spoiled by riches and who loves herself, her family and her husband for who they are than someone who measures everything with a golden ruler. Interestingly, I find this to be true of the vast majority of the people I have met in Barrio Villate and have to admit that I am jealous of the fact that poor people there (at least in this neighborhood) take care of each other a lot better than the scumbags in my neighborhood in West Michigan do. Maybe its a coste&o thing????

big kugz comments on Empanadas empanadas I do believe that I have fully mastered the art of the Empanada and I have developed several tactics for the masa. DO use PAN yellow, it's the best. Use two chicken stock cubes, boil them into like a cup of water. Take a cup of cold water and mix them together with squirt of lime. Mix with masa, adding more untill it is a moist ball of dough, and do so while the liquid mixture is still warm. As you pull your masa out, do so by making one ball at a time. Rip a large plastic bag in two and use one side of it to place the ball of masa in. Fold the bag over so theh plastic is atop and underneath the masa with plenty of room spread out, then flatten to about 1/4 inch between a cutting board and a hard flat surface. Unfold, put a tablespoon of filling in, then refold the plastic AND the empanada with your hand behind the bag to close the empanada. Press the edges to seal, use a large glass to trim the edges, then unfold the plastic and your masterpiece is complete.

big kugz comments on What about American women? All weirdos All US women are not too high maintenence. All Colombianas do not care about money. I met my wife on accident. She has lived poor her entire life and still doesn't care about money. She didn't want to come to the US but did it because she loves me and has had to work two jobs to help me out while I finish school. Many of my female gringa friends are the same... real people who don't care about material things. Too many weirdos make too many blanket statements.

big kugz comments on any relationship advice? weirdo You shouldn't be with anyone that you don't trust and not trusting someone because of whatever lame stories you heard is pretty shallow. There are people that will take advantage of others in every county/culture in the world. I would say that even more so here in the US, maybe not, just my personal experience. So, are you shallow, too insecure, or do you actually have a ligitimate reason not to trust him? Best of luck.

big kugz comments on Search: BQ hotel info the nicest hotel that i have found is the Hotel Prado. If offers an excellent location and outstanding service. I haven't stayed at the Atlantic blue or the American Golf, but Prado is definitely better than Puerta de Barranquilla. Hotel Dan Carlton if I remember correctly is the new one with the rotating restaurant on top. It looks very nice and is adjacent to the biggest shopping mall. If you speak spanish it is definitely easier to find websites and reviews in the native tongue. Good luck

big kugz comments on Does pregnancy change status??? thanks by the way, utopiacowboy... i'm a gringo who has waited two years and has taken monthly trips to colombia to make sure that we are making the right decision. Not every gringo who goes to colombia is an old rich man looking for a beautiful young bride, nor do they all go to colombia specifically to meet women. I consider my situation fate so don't be so quick to judge a book by it's skin color or nationality. Some of us still believe in the morals that god instilled in us. entiendes?

big kugz comments on First Time to Barranquilla (Meet Future Wife) fool have you done any research about foolish gringos that marry colombianas half their age??? A good person/WOMAN (colombiana or not) will marry someone for love, not for a meal ticket. Yeah she might really be in love with someone way older that she met only several months ago... OR you both may have the wrong reasons to get married and end up miserable!!! Sorry if I sound rude, but I'm only being honest. Good luck.

big kugz comments on HOW DID YOU MEET HER OR HIM????? loquita He conocido a muchas chicas en colombia que solamente se quieren casar a un gringo con mucha plata y a q no les importa el amor. Buenas suerte

big kugz comments on In love and wanting to marry go to colombia you might as well go to colombia and reapply for a visa. or get married there and wait. Good luck. PS, you are estadounidense, american is anyone on either of the continents

big kugz comments on first timer to colombia/cartagena hostales stay at a hostal in the walled city or rent an apartment. brush up on your espa&ol and have fun. although I agree that cartagena gets old after awhile. make sure that you explore all the surrounding areas, there are many natural wonders to be seen. Santa Marta and Barranquilla are also well worth the visit.
