The owner of the blacksheep told me about a deal for flights with Satena. I went and checked it out and they are good deals. You have to buy your flights on a Wed, but you can take the actual flight any day you want. It is valid up until November. As an example, my flight to Bogota one way will cost me 150,000 pesos including all taxes which is pretty good compared to my last flight of aroun 230,000 pesos. If coming into and out of medellin you have the added advantage that the flight ...

Just a question for the long term Medellin foreigners - what do you think of the above area investment wise (longer term). I have heard that it may have some potential based on the following reasons: - The 33 nightlife area has apparently undergone a revamp and is now much more up market - is this accurate? - The prices are a lot less cost wise than Poblado. - People are starting to look at moving back to this area due to the cost in ie Poblado. - The city is promoting the area and ai ...

Colombia made the top ten of Forbes emerging property markets. Pity the peso is so strong, would be in there like a flash! Tensions along the Colombian border with Venezuela, and two years of home price softening, keep this housing economy from being a short-term pick. But assuming the Colombian economy can continue growing and its access to lending continues to bloom, it's a good market to watch in the next five years. Inflation is at its lowest rate in decades, and foreign direct investmen ...
The dude who wrote it was snorting cocaine instead of doing his job and didnt even get to the Big C!!! http://www.news.com.au/story/0,23599,23527770-2,00.html '''''''''In one case, he said he had not even visited the country he wrote about. There is a new Hooters opening next to Zona Rosa in Bogota - I can see men licking their chops everywhere!!! Aside from the eye candy factor - maybe the investment by international companies is a little sign things are looking up in Colombia; we now have: Hooters, a new Hard rock in Cartagena (awsome location) BA negotiating for a return to flights to Colombia Many new backpackers hostels and a rumour that the Trump is lookign to pu a signature tower here on the coast!! ...
What do the people here at PBH do for tipping in Colombia. I know that the basic wage for restaurant and bar staff is very poor and that it is in a small way supplemented by the 10% automatic propina that is delivered with most bills. However – I used to tip above that, usually the amount of the tip again, more if I received good service. The problem I see is that service still sucks here. I have tried various methods of tipping to increase the level of service including: 1) Tipping ...

Thanks for previous responses – Some more questions if I may on Colombia property: 1: Does anyone have experience on buying property via a Panamanian Corporation (bearer shares) and what the system for doing that is. Do they have Colombian corporations to do this and are they set up to be 100 % anonymous? 2: After reading some posts I am a bit confused about brining money into Colombia to pay for an apartment assuming I don’t have a cedula and therefore cannot open a bank account. Have been looking at apartments over the last few days and the prices for new apartments seems to be between 1300 usd / sq metre to 1500 usd / sq metre (with the current exchange rate). This is for new apartments in Medellin from midway between San Diego shopping mall (ave poblado) to p lleres, to el mole village restaurants on the way to Envigado Parque (el mole is a nice alternative to p lleres as well - nice bars although a lot smaller). Hoping to 1) find an older apartment with a better ...

Anyone have the colombian scoop on it ? http://edition.cnn.com/2008/WORLD/americas/01/14/colombia.rebels/index.html http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7188509.stm That might reduce the number of tourists flowing into colombia - even though its in a way out place. Hey there. I like to play Roulette a bit. Never win, but enjoy the odd game. Does anyone know if there is a roulette table in Medellin and Bogota that has plays to the Eurpoean table rules ie only 1 x 0 (not a 00) and that your even bets go in prison when the ball lands in the 0 ? Just trying to improve my suckers odds and not loose so much. My Martingale system of doubling bets usually had me up money till I (always) get greedy and loose it again!! So a table that has a small staring ...
Hi there - can anyone confirm if the dates for Carnival this year are 2 to 5 Feb? I am hoping they are a bit later!! thanks
Hey does anyone know if Bogota has singles nights? In Aus they used to have awsome balls called Desperate and Dateless, or if you werea country lad/lass called B and S balls - which were really great parties and a good place to mix and huge on teh social calander. Do they have anything like that in Colombia? The nearest I have seen is Lunabar where they put a little note on your chest, and one in Par 93 on a Wednesday which closed. ...
Hey, has anyone been to this town? Whats it like? Much to do? Whats the nightlife like on the weekends?
Hi, I recently had a look at apartments in medellin. I found one right near pobaldo, on the 7th floor for 134,000,000 pesos. It was a bedsitter, 40 sq m, in a great building with pool, gym, security etc and a nice view. How does that price sound in general to people with a bit more knowledge. It works out to be 67,000 USD and per sq metre 1675 USD (3,350,000) . I thought that seemed a bit expensive whe looking at the sq metre price, although they are using higher for smaller apartment ...
Hey there is a great new disco in Bogota, in Park 93 where Tabu used to be. Its called El Sitio (part of the other elsitio in 93). Great place and unlike Tabu , beers dont cost 13,000 pesos so they actually get people inside. ...
Hey: is anyone else having trouble getting into nightclubs in Bogota. Recently I have been told ''members only'' jaja ie : read - 'You are not cool enough for the line'' at the following clubs: Socorro, The new disco (cant remember name on about 76 with 15). Gotica (about 50% of the time), El Sitio (managed to weedle my way in after saying my nonexistant GF was there) Before at Guarana, Once at Dancatoria, Once they even tried it at Kukamakara. Sorry to be off topic a bit, but a lot of people here have experience in Panama as well as Colombia.
I have a question regarding the use of ESCROW services. I can see why this would be needed if you are buying property off an individual, however would it really be needed if you are buying off a developer (and the developer is very reputable).
The reason I ask is that it seems the service is around 1.5% of the total, which for 50 k is 750 grande and 100k = 1500 us ...
For those interested, I tried to extend my visa for colombia today (in Bogota) and couldnt. The reason is because I have been here for 6 months in the year.

Additionally, we are unsure whether to do a day trip or overnight. We understand it is 2 hrs to Buenaventura, but am not sure how long the rail cart trip takes. Are we pushing it trying to do this in a day or should we overnight?
