Beachbros comments on La Herradura Gourmet - Santa Marta Larryrn, seems like you are checking out quite a few restaurants here in Santa Marta. Why not swing by Agave Azul, my mexican restaurant, here on calle 14 between 3rd and 4th carrera. We have everything from tostadas to red snaper and amazing langostinos to terrific fillet mignon. You won't be let down, and we have service we can stand behind as well. Evan

Beachbros comments on Colombia Parties Reject Chavez ‘Intervention,’ El Tiempo Says I had a friend trying to catch a bus from Santa Marta to Venezuela today and was turned away at the terminal because the border is closed. Must have to do with these recent developments? Anyone know anything about the boarder being closed?

Beachbros comments on Barranquilla Airport to Santa Marta a taxi can be negotiated for 120,000 right there at the airport, for sure the best option for someone not familiar with the area. If you want chepo way and want to take the chicken bus then dont got to the bus terminal, way closer to go to the truncal at the exit of the city, and wait on the side of the road there for any of the buses. Marsol is great, im just not aware of them doing airport pickups.

Beachbros comments on San Gil??? Macondo Hostel is real nice too, sean the owner will help you out with having a great time all around there.

Beachbros comments on Fave Restaurant in Santa Marta? We can have the chef whip up something nice a vegetarian at agave azul.

Beachbros comments on Best Nightclubs in Santa Marta? Is there need for modern luxury nightclubs in Santa Marta? I would say NO. There are several, Vasao and a few in rodedero, Burikake or something like that. I don't see them doing that much business other than event nights during high season.

Beachbros comments on Santa Marta - nice restaurants Ummmm. Agave Azul-Sabores de Mexico. This Is a mexican restaurant my brother, our partner chef and I started up a few months back. There is a post out there with quite a few responses. After tonight though we won't be open till Tuesday. But come check it out, very elegant food with a mexican twist. http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/post/new-mexican-restaurant-in-santa-marta/ Other than that, first of all rickys is shit shit shit. Ben and Josephs is a real good option. An Argentine friend of mine has a restaurant El Santo on calle 21 with 2a. International cusine, is closed for remodeling but should be open on tuesday too.

Beachbros comments on Do you think Santa Marta will fix its problems and become a top place to live and for tourism? Bill- Santa Marta is a city, it has the infrastructure to grow, and tourism will protect what it is, a historical city. As for your view on cancum, yes wonderful beaches are always overrun by ridiculous development, like rodedero or taganga, and it just makes them ugly. Thankfully the santa marta beach was ugly to start with.

Beachbros comments on Do you think Santa Marta will fix its problems and become a top place to live and for tourism? I love how naive everyone is when it comes to backpackers, thinking they are all poor, because if you new the truth then you might be in the right business. Fist of all it takes the backpackers to change the mentality of tourism, not expats, honestly no one back home will take your word for it. But when the accountants, lawyers, engineers who have been taking there year off return to there offices and talk about there favorite places, thats when the mentality changes. And then when they get there promotion and want to return to there beloved favorite with the kids and strollers, well, by then the high end infrastructure will be there. And why, because backpackers were there first. Look at Cartegena media luna art hostel. We are talking about a million dollar project built by colombian owners of 5 star bogota hotels. Sure there market studies showed backpackers don't have money. Ha

Beachbros comments on Do you think Santa Marta will fix its problems and become a top place to live and for tourism? Yeah, I have to appreciate it as it is today, as i have to appreciate its inevitable change. No matter how it changes I'll look back and admire how it used to be. So if its going to change hopefully I can be a part of making it change in the best way.

Beachbros comments on Do you think Santa Marta will fix its problems and become a top place to live and for tourism? Problems? Are you serious? Santa Marta shows the most positive investment possibilities. The president has has personally said that they want Santa Marta to be the number one coastal tourist destination, and in a visit over a year ago vowed to work with the airlines to get easier accessibility and preached to the people the NEED for more hotels to accommodate for the future tourism. The are in the process of rebuilding all the city parks, developing storm drain infrastructure, changing almost half the streets into walking streets and will be putting all the telephone wires underground. Half of all that money is provided on behalf of the national government as one of its main objectives it tourism. And as much as all you gringos love medellin, and as great of a city as bogota is to live in, Santa Marta is clearly the best place to sell for colombian as well as international tourists. With a 4 month, 2 ship a week, cruise season, an international marina project and talk of a new international airport between here and barranquilla, shit, what more signs do you need. True colombians are afraid of investing here, they know how crappy it used to be. But i think my ignorance is to my advantage, that I actually believe in tourism in colombia. A year ago when I invested here, looking at all the city plans, I knew I had a goldmine and had gotten in at the right time. Now that most of the parks are finished, i am dumbfounded why more people aren't catching on. And people still keep buying shit little lots in taganga.

Beachbros comments on Is It True Santa Marta Is a Ghost Town During Non Holiday months? I would agree highly with dreamer, santa marta is always lively. Rodedero is how you describe it, a ghost town. But here in santa marta you get the feeling that there is a larger meaning to the city than just tourists. I sit on my balcony every morning here in the centro historico and watch hoards of people head tt work. Sundays can be a little ghostly around here.

Beachbros comments on Hey sapo, sorry, i forgot to respond to that one question i put out there. Yeah the restaurant is open again, come stop by. And about that 800,000sqm, is what i found. Roughly 1million is what you find. Around parque los novios is higher, not because its better, used to be a shit hole, but because its the first place they finished a park. Take it they still have 3 parks to finish thats where you want to find you good investments.

Beachbros comments on building a house in Santa Marta I can tell you all about my experiences doing my large scale remodel, and put you in contact with friends that have build new structures next to there historical homes. I could also highly recommend my contractor, cheap, quick and really good work. But you have to provide a few more of your specifics about your plans.

Beachbros comments on Santa Marta Hotels Your best bet is Hotel Nueva Granada. It's on calle 12 between 3rd and 4th. Wonderful place, friendly owner, well run, clean, and has a pool. -Another hotel owner

Beachbros comments on Hotel Santa Marta for my moto and me My private rooms are 40,000 or 50,000 w air. Booked for tomorrow night so let me know when you are coming. Also dorm rooms are in promotion for 12,000 right now. I have a storage room in the front of the house, if you want we could easily roll it up the few stairs, but if you plan on taking it out a few times a day not the best of options. Stop by and check it out, if its not for you ill point you in the dirrection of another hotel or just a parquedero. La Brisa Loca, on travel guide

Beachbros comments on apartment/hotel in santa marat for 2/4 weeks 2,000,000 is pretty expensive. You could get a 4 bedroom beachfront penthouse for that out of season. I found some places by the highway, like 3 blocks from the beach for 600,000. I think you could find something real nice for a million. Go down to the beach and look for one of the guys with the apartment signs, they will get you in touch with owners.
Beachbros comments on apartment/hotel in santa marat for 2/4 weeks you won't find anything in santa marta, very little options besides hotels. Rodedero has many options for longer term apartments, but as high season is coming prices will climb. I have a nice place here, hostel, but am not giving any deals for long term stays.

Beachbros comments on I am going to Santa Marta this weekend... Any i got a nice hotel, and plenty of space, more of a backpackers hostel but all are welcome. And a little more affordable than Irotama, about a 10th the price, and right in the centro historico.
Beachbros comments on I am going to Santa Marta this weekend... Any Sorry to say the new mexican restaurant is closed for two weeks, the chef had to leave the country for his business visa, im sure a bunch of you know how it goes, got to be legal. But if you want an impressive meal, check out donde octavio on avenida liberador with carrera 21, most impressive pork ribs you will see for 10,000m/l. Freakin steal. Feel free to stop by my hostel bar if you wish, in the same building a the restaurant.

Beachbros comments on Bahia Linda en Santa Marta yeah its the biggest newest complex there in the south, playa los cocos
Beachbros comments on El Rodadero outside of high season you can get a nice place for 400 mil, or a apartment in a beachfront complex for 600 mil. But durring that time period look to pay around 700mil or 1000 ooo
Beachbros comments on Bahia Linda en Santa Marta super nice actually, bit outside of town but damn nice, like 6 or 8 block walk into centro. Really safe barrio and shit, right on the beach, not really a good swimming beach, but looks great from you 8th floor balcony. And from what I have heard its all locals, families and people with body guards. Generally they try and keep rentals to locals, not tourists, a plus i guess.

Beachbros comments on FIJO / INTERNET / TV provideres. Whats the best road? by the way, i will have 4 computers for the business and 3 free internet computers, might need more like 2000k

Beachbros comments on Fiesta del Mar en Santa Marta, Colombia there was no festival last year because of construction on the local parks. But this year is the 20 year anniversary. Not sure on the dates though

Beachbros comments on Much recent crime in El Rodadero? Santa Marta is plenty safe, I haven't had a single problem in the year living here, and I had been living in a sketchy part of town. Its not at the touristy stage like cartegena where every tourist is a target and crime comes from the countrysides to unite in one place. Its really on its way up as a city and a tourist destination, lets just hope more tourism doesn't mean more crime for santa marta.
