My colombian wife is going to kill me!

She arrived in the states less than a month ago and she cooks everything in oil. She liberally uses oil when she cooks rice and soup then deep fries potatoes, beef, chicken, vegatables and eggs. She graciously cooks for us all and when I have mentioned to her to take it easy on the oil, she gives me a look like, "Hey, I know what I am doing." They cooked this way the times I have visited Colombia, but I was not aware they cook everything in it. ...

Am. Citizen Denied Leaving Colombia

After much anticipation of my wife and 4 week old boy arriving in the US today, my son was not allowed to leave Colombia even though he has an American passport. After my wife checked bags and received the tickets from Cali to Houston, immigration would not allow my son to leave because he did not have a Colombia passport. Although he has dual citizenship, we were all unaware that he needed a Colombian passport. Does anyone know why my son is required to have both passports to leave the count ...

My Wife Says Goodbye

This Saturday my wife will say goodbye to family and friends in Colombia to join me in the US. I doubt if she has ever spent much time alone since she has always lived with family. In the two years I have known her, there has always been several people at home with her.
But her life will soon change. I recently moved to Las Vegas from Southern California for work and to buy a home. Our house is in a predominately white neighborhood and I don't know anyone. Although she comes with a ...

Visa Approved ...But

Well, after more than nine months of waiting my wife and her son's CR-1&2 visas were approved:) But the embassy would not issue the visas today. The policy for immigrant visas is they are issued the following business day. I was hoping they would make an exception since it is Christmas and she lives near Cali. But no...she must fly back to the embassy next Tuesday to pick up the Visa. It didn't matter that she just had a baby, that she has to fly back on Tuesday and that I would like to be w ...

My day at the Embassy in Bogota

I was married in Palmira Colombia in March and my wife just gave birth to a beautiful baby boy on 11-30-2005. In order to get my son to the US, I was required to go to the Embassy to get him a passport.

On Monday December 5th I flew to Bogota and arrived at the Embassy about 8:45 am. I was immediately let through the gate and then got in line for American Citizens. There was only 5-6 people waiting in line, but it took an hour before I was let through. I then walked through a ...

Picking Up Visa at Embassy

My wife's interview is scheduled for December 23rd, which is a Friday. The embassy distributes immigrant visa the next business day after 4 pm at the Embassy. My wife is flying in from Cali and will not be able to stay in Bogota until the next week to obtain her visa. Has anyone had experience with this and know what she will need to do to get her visa? ...

Requesting Interview Date?

Well, we are almost finished. My wife's I-130 case has been completed and was sent to the Embassy on Nov. 1st. I am hoping for a December interview, but my wife is expecting a baby on the 1st of December by c-section. Hopefully she is well enough to travel from Cali to Bogota around the 20th of December. Is it possible to contact the Embassy and request an interview date? They are no longer accepting emails at IVBogota at state.gov. If anyone knows another way to contact the Embassy I would g ...

Access Denied...Why?

I just spent about 25 minutes responding to someone's question and when I clicked on "post comment"...the page changed and said "access denied." I lost everything and was unable to go back and get it. Has this ever happened to anyone else? It is a little frustrating. ...

Traveling to Bogota for Interview

My wife lives in Palmira near Cali and it is very likely she will have her interview in November or December. But she is scheduled to have a C-Section on November 30th, meaning she is unable to travel during those months. Do I have any options or must I reschedule once she is well enought to travel. ...

Quick Question About DS-230 Part 1

At the bottom of page 2 it asks for the signature of the applicant. My question...is it neessary for me to send it to my wife to sign or can I do it since it does not require a notary? If so, will a faxed copy of her signature be sufficient? For a previous document that required my wife's signature the NVC said they just need a signature....I signed for my wife no problem. ...

NVC prefers NO lawyers

After my lawyer misinformed me on my wife's I-130, I called the NVC and they told me my lawyer was incorrect. They told me about three times it was NOT necessary to use a lawyer. After letting this registered in my mind a day, I called the NVC again and asked if I needed a lawyer...they said substantionally, "No, lawyers actually create more problems." The NVC said I can complete the process on my own and if I had any problems to call them. Anyway, that is more than my lawyer has done. ...

K3 or IR1

I was under the impression that it is no longer necessary to file an I-129F once I received the receipt of my I-130...believing that K3 and the IR1 take about the same time. According to www.visajourney.com the average time of NOA1 to the interview for a K-3 is 173 days (less than 6 months). But the average time for the IR1 is 240 days with the majority of processing time after receiving NOA2. I just received approval of my I-130 (NOA2)...Am I still looking at waiting five more months until m ...

Consular Filing

What type of photo ID is required for my wife's 10 year old son? He does not have a passport or a cedula just a birth certificate. Thanks

Coming to America

I was married in Cali Colombia on March 12th and filed an I-130 petition for my wife on the 23rd of March and it has not been approved yet. My wife is three months pregnant and I fear she will receive a visa a month or two before her due date of December 10th. I have heard that the airlines do not let women in thier third trimester fly. MY QUESTION: Is there an alternative mode of transportation from Cali to Las Angeles? A boat seems to be the best. Any information you know about any trans ...

Visa Processing Times

I was under the impression that the California Service Center is approving I-130's in as quick as 21 days. My wife's was received in California 53 days ago and I have heard nothing. Shall I be concerned? Does this mean that I am in for a long wait? Can anyone give me a idea of realistically how long it will be until my wife receives her visa as a long as the process has no problems? We we were married on March 12th and she is expecting a baby on December 10th. I was thinking that she would ...

My Colombian Wife is Pregnant...

and still in Colombia. We were married on Marcb 12th in Colombia and I received NOA1 on the 25th, so I am in progress to receive a visa for her. Does anyone know if it is possible to expedite her visa since she is pregant? I believe it is possible to expedite a spousal visa for a medical and family emergency. ...

Married to a Colombiana

I was recently married in Colombia and I have filed my petition with the California Service Center. Can anyone tell me how it will effect the process of obtaining a visa for mt wife and her son if I were to go live with her in Colombia until she is allowed to enter the US. I have a stable work history in the US and enough money in the stock market to sustain us for a quite a while, but I will not have a job when they request W-2's and evidence of a job. Will this keep them from approving my a ...

Another Spousal Visa Question

Can anyone tell me what I do next because the person filing my paperwork is currently out of the country. I was married on March 12th in Colombia and I just filed the petition on the 23rd of March to the California Service Center. I received the receipt yesterday...is there anything I do now or do I have to wait until the petition is approved? It appears on some websites I have seen that I am supposed to submit an I-129F immediately following the petition (I-130). Anyone know? Thanks ...

Colombia...What an amazing place.

I just returned from Palmira today...I was married Saturday night to a beautiful Colombiana I have known for more than a year. Well anyway, I have been to Colombia 5 times, but my gringo family attended the wedding and it was their first time to visit Colombia. None of the them knew what to expect. They were somewhat frighted by what others had told them. My sister at one time had canceled her 10 year old sons ticket because she feared for his safety. But to make a long story short, my fami ...

Getting married soon in Colombia, but

After reading many stories on the website and others I am really starting to wonder if my fiance wants marriage or wants to come to the states. I am 40 years old (never married) and I live in California. I am marrying a colombiana who is 35 years old (on March 12th) that I met in Cartagena more than a year ago. She is from Palmira and has a 10 year old son. We talk on the phone everday now and nearly everyday since I met her. I have visited her 6 times and on one trip I spent nearly a month ...

Talking of Airlines - Copa not much better!

I was leaving Cali on January 4th 2005 going to LAX via Panama City and when I arrived at the ticket counter one hour and fifteen minutes before my flight departed my seat was already given away. I paid $1098 for the ticket. I know I should have arrived 2 hours before, but I was riding along with my host family and assumed an hour would be enough. But worse than not getting my seat was the assistance or lack of assistance I received from Copa Airlines. They did not offer to book me another f ...

Wedding Rings in Colombia?

I live in California and I am getting married in Cali in two weeks. I met my fiance more than a year ago while traveling for business in Colombia. I recently purchased my wedding band, which is gold, but her set is white gold. I prefer gold and she looks great in white gold...but when I told her that my ring is gold, she was not happy saying the rings should all be the same. She also seemed a little unhappy that I didn't wait to let her get my ring. Can anyone tell me if this is her prefere ...
