bartolo_colon comments on Why must you buy the whole bottle? I think its kind of nice. Bottle, Ice, Cokes. You can mix your drinks just how you like them instead of depending on the bartender. With every table having its own bottle, its as if there are little minnie-parties going on at every table. Good times

bartolo_colon comments on Proud Colombians? Med you should see some of the barrios in BAQ and CTG, steaming piles of trash, dead animals, open sewers. But for the most part, the majority of barrios are quite tidy. That said, it seems like folks litter like crazy.all over the country. Its nothing though compared to Haiti and Africa, the filth over there is mind boggling.

bartolo_colon comments on Non Tourist Nightclubs in Cartagena Surprisingly good advice Cali, especially these last three posts. And toms rule of thumb about cabbing after 9-6 is a very good idea, Getsemani, can be sketchy. Does anyone know the name of the club Suizo mentioned? I have been there several times, but cant remember the name either.

|
bartolo_colon comments on Non Tourist Nightclubs in Cartagena Frankly, the best nightclubs are the tourist clubs and you will find many Cartageneros, and Colombian tourists with money at clubs in Getsamani and Centro . There are thousands of places to drink and dance in the barrios, I would highly suggest not going by yourself, hook up with a local and they will be more than happy to take you to the slum they live in., if that is what you are looking for. CTG outside of the tourist areas can be fucking rough man, and down right dangerous at night. Most "real people" in Cartagena cant afford to go out all that often, 3 in 5 live on less than $2 a day. Head to barrio San Pedro, Amberes or barrio Nelson Mandela, the open sewers, rotting garbage and dust adds to the ambiance of the corner store that serves as the local nightclub, tastfully furnished with white plastic chairs and tattered Aguila umbrellas. The dress code is casual, no shoes, no shirt, totally filthy shorts, distended belly, the dark hollow eyes of hunger, thats how the party people roll, in the "real" CTG.

bartolo_colon comments on / Hah, not even close to my name. Bartolo on the coast, is slang for someone who sits around and smokes. Bart Simpson, Bartolo, mischevious. Bartolo Colon, fat Dominican fireball pitcher with a bad haircut. Its a fun alias when traveling, because if you met me, there is no fucking way my name is bartolo.hah, my english name, Kameron doesnt translate for shit in spanish, thus on a lark everyone I know in colombia calls me bartolo(I even have a bartolo email LOL). My traveling buddy go's by Homero, a much worse name I think.

bartolo_colon comments on Bullfights on Teleantioquia 1.EH drank like a fish, so sniffing a little glue now and then is plausible. 2.last time I checked Mexico was part of North America, and has a very active bullfighting culture 3.Spain and Portugal have very low poverty rates 4.sub saharan Africa, has the highest rate of spousal abuse (and no bullfighting) 5.Spain,Portugal,Mexico, Colombia etc, make you sick? 6.I dont hit my girlfriend poverty and spousal abuse have nothing to do with bullfighting.

bartolo_colon comments on Bullfights on Teleantioquia Bullfighting is the only art in which the artist is in danger of death and in which the degree of brilliance in the performance is left to the fighter's honor. bartolo_colon comments on America bashing Umm,seriously RJ? Iraq had not produced any since 1991 ( Iraq Survey Group). They were used against civillians in 1983, and against the Iranians during the war on a half dozen occasions. If there was a stockpile, which is highly speculative, and it was shipped to Syria pre-invasion, then why not go after Syria?

bartolo_colon comments on Accents/Dialects: Bogota vs. Southern Colombia This is only my opinion, so dont eat me alive guys. When speaking with someone from Bogota, even folks from the lower caste, there spanish sounds very clean, even the gamines sound somewhat educated. The Paisa accent is hard to describe, but it sounds cool, a little bit more rhythmic and sing-songy, and maybe a bit ruder. Costeno's tend to machine gun sentences at you, they mash the words together, but not as bad as Cubans, they drop the S's sometimes, but not as bad as Guayaquil or Chile. In all parts, there speech can be peppered with hysterical slang. And, like no other spanish speaking country I have been, there choice of words can be stunningly beautiful.

bartolo_colon comments on Go to any gun store Tinto, they will hook you up straight away.(Sportsmans Warehouse) The cord is probably the one that attaches to your belt and the pistol that keeps someone from grabbing your sidearm and shooting you with your own damn gun....Robert I know you have better taste in weapons, that is a pretty ghetto 9mm. lol.

bartolo_colon comments on First Post...Planning Trip To Colombia Your friend recommends going to Bogota for a first trip to Colombia, well, that is like recommending New York City for a first time visitor to the U.S....nothing against BOG or NY, both great cities, but try and see the country a little. 1.No shorts....ever, ever, no matter how freakin hot it is, absolutely no shorts, except at the beach. 2.Wear a condom, unless you want to piss toothpaste, and have itchy lesions on your genitals. 3.If you want to surf go to Hawaii.

No prepagos, no gringos, cheap liquor and dancing, and you actually have a chance to chat up non hooker girls.

bartolo_colon comments on Buying emeralds in Cartagena or Medellin There is a mine direct emerald discounter in Boca Grande (CTG) , I cant remember the name, it is surrounded by a white security fence, ask at your hotel I am sure they will know the place. My buddies from Florida spent 40K in there and said they where getting about a 50% discount, upon returning to FL, appraisal put the discount closer to 60%! Good luck and be carefull, I was scared to death walkin out of the store, had a taxi driver friend waiting, and watched the street for 20 minutes before I let them come out! Also, they didnt declare them upon returning back to FL, I am not sure but I imagine the tax/tarriff might be pretty stiff, they still joke about being international, emerald smugglers, LOL.

bartolo_colon comments on Oliver Stone in Colombia the U.S. army is an army of "peasants". poor kids from all over the country make up the enlisted ranks, a long time ago one of them was me. oliver stone is a vietnam vet, he should know a little bit about fighting peasants. bartolo_colon comments on CARTAGENA NIGHT LIFE A typical weekend night should go something like this: wake up around 11 PM, go eat fried salchichan and a couple burgers on the street (greasy food will insulate your insides for the night of heavy drinking ahead) head over to Cafe Del Mar for a cocktail, don't eat anything, the food is terrible. Catch a taxi to La Dolce Vida and gamble until you have a couple hundred thousand pesos, to finance the rest of the evening, and get a couple free drinks while your at it. Head next door and have a couple more drinks, chat up a couple of the ridiculously hot woman, but absolutely do not leave with one. Catch a taxi to La Triplatera. buy a little bottle of Ron Medellin, the girls that were just at LDV will soon be showing up, feel free to chat them up and waste there time, but dont settle, just keep getting comfortably intoxicated. By this time, it should be geting late, stroll over to Giomata, you should be quite buzzed by this point and have a couple girls in tow. Lose them once you are inside, and switch to beer. Get annoyed with the techno music, and stumble your way over to the Miami Club, this little gem is like heaven at 5:00 in the morning, the last of the LDV girls are here, all manner of illicit activities are transpiring around you. Spend the last of your gambling winnings on something nice.......

bartolo_colon comments on Hotel Las Vegas If you are talking about the one by the University in Cartagena, its between 25-35K per night, its on a sliding scale of how much they think they can get out of you. Good deal considering it has A/C.

bartolo_colon comments on CARTAGENA NIGHT LIFE I think you are talking about Cafe Havana, in Getsamani: Cartagena de Indias Calle Media Luna con Calle del Guerrero Getsemani Phone 57 315 690-2566 The other one I am not so sure. In a fort? Mr. Babilla is over there. If every one was dancing on the bar and it was really expensive and loud then that was it. Getsemanà Calle 24 No 8B –137 Avenida El Arsenal

bartolo_colon comments on Catching the train in Colombia dwmte7, you just set off a light bulb in my brain. I worked maintenance of way, transportation, and passenger service as a railroader. Been all over hell and back out in the REAL world. Maybe I could consult down in Colombia, help build a rail network, and satisfy my unhealthy fascination with prepagos all in one fell swoop.
