Azul comments on birth control in colombia My GF is on the pill, and so are most of her friends so she says. She just goes to the pharmacy and buys them....I thought that the stigma of bc pills was getting better.

Azul comments on Cutting a page out of a Passport, could this work? I thought that they track your entry and exit in their computer system....I wouldn't try it.

Azul comments on English teachers in Barranquilla needing work? bigtexas...My heart is in 'quilla too. I've been all over Colombia, but Barranquilla is by far my favorite. My company may close (drastic layoffs) soon, so I may decide just as you did to make the move. I wonder why BQ has such a high percentage of dating agencies...do you think that it's higher than say Medellin or Cali?
Azul comments on English teachers in Barranquilla needing work? I know what you mean....I've spend ALOT of time in BQ and have only met two other gringos while there, but that was at the airport waiting for my flight home :-)
Azul comments on El Dorado Airport - 24 hour service??? I was last in Bogota in May...and the construction kept me up all night! Very loud and dusty. Not sure if they are finished yet. And all my flights left from the main terminal, both international and national.

Azul comments on Colombia in shock over grisly baby murder to avoid paying child support I wasn't aware that child support could be ordered for a father in Colombia. I wonder how much it was?

Azul comments on Stuck with pesos I'll be in Colombia in two weeks, so I'd buy them from you, but it would probably be too big of a hassle for the both of us.

Azul comments on vischere is right, the airport is freezing at night. i've slept in that airport 3 or 4 times when I've had a overnight layover and I typically make sure that I pack a blanket to survive the night :-) Yes, sleep on the benches on the second floor....there are a couple waiting areas, but I would suggest the one with the wooden benches. The other has chairs that are not suited for stretching out in. Oh, and it will be fairly loud. There will not be a shortage of people staying the night with you, and they always seem to be buffing the floors, blarring the tv's, or hammering on something. All in all not the most restfull of nights, but doable.

Azul comments on Calling all Airlines Experts - (Flying to Medellin) I live in Seattle and it is very rare that I can ever find a flight to Colombia with out spending the night either on the airplane or in an airport. The trip back is easier, I can leave Colombia in the morning and get back to Seattle that same evening.

Azul comments on Anyone living in Colombia, but still paying bills in The States? larryrn, USAA has a checking account where you can scan your checks to deposit them online.

Azul comments on Best Movies in or about Colombia? I also like Rosario Tijeras, but the book is much better.

Azul comments on New Movistar Phone Card What is so great about .20 per minute? My phone card now gets .12 per minute. Calling with my cell directly gets .22 per minute.

Azul comments on It doesn't count when you've been married 5 years to an immaginary Colombian wife PowWow

Azul comments on IVA return Is there a list of items that qualify for the refund? I'm assuming that hotel charges do not qualify....
Azul comments on Please! One last check if anyone knows if there is luggage storage in the Barranquilla airport? No storage at the BQ airport....you can pick up free wifi while in the airport waiting :-) Besides that it is not a great airport for killing time.

Azul comments on Dia del Amor y la amistad daFlores.com just sent me an advertisement for dia del amor y la amistad...but the ad said that it was Sept 13th. Which is it? The 13th or 20th? I don't want to screw up and get the date wrong...that wouldn't go over very well.

Azul comments on I have a question about this debate...was the original question who best represents their country in the eyes of the rest of the world or the most popular and beloved within each individual country?
Azul comments on Por Fin.... my chance to go to Colombia and stay! Good luck my friend! .....and I could think of worse things than to start a new life in Colombia :-)
Azul comments on I Need Help about barranquilla I know that the beaches in Barranquilla aren't really all that nice ( I wasn't all that impressed by the beaches in Cartagena or Santa Marta either), but for an afternoon at the beach is Caño Dulce the best choice?

Azul comments on A translator needed for 11 straight days starting Sept 11/08 in Bogota.. Your friend has had two months since your post, how much Spanish has he learned in that time?
Azul comments on Heading to Colombia tonite from U.S. You'll clear customs in Bogota. Sometimes the lines are pretty long, but that late on a thursday night you will probably be just fine with an hour and a half.

Azul comments on Power outage in Medellin Dónde está tu foto? Quizá debo llamar Cidy y preguntarla, ella probablemente aceptaría mi llamada. Dame su número, sí?
Azul comments on Power outage in Medellin If she has a cell phone it would have worked even if the power went out....and because she is a Colombiana I KNOW she has a cell phone :-)

Azul comments on A lot of the Colombians that I know that want to travel to the US (or anywhere else) and are not able to because of visa restrictions do not have the money for the trip anyways...and those that have the money have visas.

Azul comments on Elmo my friend...I'm with you. And now that AA cut service to Barranquilla I'm stuck with Avianca unless I want to layover in Bogota with Continental.

Azul comments on How long does a deported person have to wait until s/he will be able to re-enter I was at the Federal Detention Center last weekend visiting the brother in-law of a friend of mine. They pulled him over for not wearing his seatbelt and checked his legal status. He'll be on his way back to Mexico next week.
Azul comments on No more Miami Barranquilla from AA AAdvantage is MUCH easier to use....i'd trade all of my OnePass miles for half the AAdvantage miles any day of the week.
Azul comments on How long does a deported person have to wait until s/he will be able to re-enter I'm no expert, but I know a few that have been deported. I think it's like 5 years if you've been in the States legally and left under your own free will, but 10 years if you are actually deported. There are a few waivers that the person can apply for to gain reentry, but they are difficult to be approved.
Azul comments on No more Miami Barranquilla from AA I have a bunch of Continental miles, but I have to go through Bogota and OnePass miles are hard to use.
Azul comments on No more Miami Barranquilla from AA It is bad news for me...I'd love to keep using my AA miles to BQ

Azul comments on Are you in need of a translator?? rates are fine....i wouldn't complain about the difference between $9 and $14 if the job is done right!

Azul comments on Bogota hotel 100-150K I thought that your girl only wanted 400 dollar per night accomodations.....
Azul comments on Santa Marta advice needed for a father and 3 little boys Millions of "Colombian" kids grow up in Colombia every day. I wouldn't think twice about living in Colombia, but I probably wouldn't want my gringo kid to live there. I say that as a father. Just my opinion.....and I would say the same thing about A LOT of areas in the US too.

Azul comments on #@$%& There has to be cheaper airfare @@##$$%% If you can get yourself down to FLL, I am seeing round trip prices at $300 including taxes from there to Bogota on Spirit Air.
Azul comments on #@$%& There has to be cheaper airfare @@##$$%% American Airlines is also where I bought my tickets. I have the best luck searching their site directly. Continental sometimes has some good fares, but I prefer American because their frequent flier miles are easier to use.
Azul comments on #@$%& There has to be cheaper airfare @@##$$%% I'm flying from Seattle to Barranquilla August 1st and I paid what I usually pay for the tickets....about $700 Which city in Colombia are you going? Where are you flying from?

I've been a member for about since December of '06, but I've read this site for much longer than that. My take on this, some of the newer members may not realize this, this site is not the same that it was a couple years ago. Even 1 year ago for that matter. Quality of posts, information about Colombia, the dialog between members, even the "entertainment" value, have all deteriorated. I am not about to write a "Good-bye" post as so many posters have done, but someday I will probably join the other members with more dignity and quietly disappear.
