Atrevido comments on THIS IS WHY I HAVE LITTLE DESIRE TO LIVE IN THE USA! WOULD THIS HAPPEN IN COLOMBIA?

There is no Little League in Colombia thank god.

Atrevido comments on "Perro Como Perro" by Carlos Moreno

Yes I saw it. Lots of Cali and surroundings scenes. Hope it makes it to US Blockbuster so friends up north can see it.

Atrevido comments on Debt... Can they track me down in Colombia?

Ray I only assigned the part about skipping off to Brazil to Ronnie Biggs not bank robbing. Anyway he seems to have lived well in Brazil for quite a few years before running out of funds and I think usher should follow his example.

Atrevido comments on six months in colombia and six months in usa

I don´t think it´s realistic on a practicle level. What do you do with your place in the US while in Colombia and vice versa. Can you really find people to rent your places in each country for just six months? What about paying bills so services don´t get cut off? That´s feasable in the US with online banking but not in Colombia, debito automatico only works for a few entities. Also what about your stuff? Do you use any reference material/books in your activities? Schlepp them back and forth? I think your life would have to be awfully simple for it to work.

Atrevido comments on Debt... Can they track me down in Colombia?

$3000 is peanuts. If you really want vengence organize an armed bank robbery and skip off to Brazil like Ronnie Biggs.

Atrevido comments on Driver's license

My understanding is that you US licence is valid in Colombia for as long as the visa you are granted. If you were ever asked for it by the Guarda De Transito or other police I doubt they would pick up on it not being a "moto" licence. Of course if you were in an accident and they investigated then maybe.

Atrevido comments on Gringo Shooting Followup

Worst Anony, you mean worst.

Atrevido comments on zip lines near Armenia?

About twenty minutes from Chipichape. It looks fun but I haven´t done it yet.

Atrevido comments on Gringo Shooting on Friday

It is..and the gem of this entire thread is rocinante´s advise: "avoid death as much as possible".

Atrevido comments on zip lines near Armenia?

There is one on the road to Dapa outside Cali.

Atrevido comments on I want to Learn How to Cook Sushi

They do cook the eel.

Atrevido comments on Rambo Eat Your Heart Out!

Atrevido comments on ¡ COMO LLAMAR A LA POLICIA EN COLOMBIA! !

Rubito I think Gator is sharing a funny joke he heard and not trying to pass it off as an original creation.

Atrevido comments on For Sale:Apartment in Cali (includes all furniture/appliances)

How many bedrooms does it have and does it include a maid´s quarter?

Atrevido comments on best way to send money to the girlfriend

You know come to think of it I regret my original response. Sending money to someone who isn´t family is a BAD idea. No Colombian would do it. You start that and you will never again know what the basis of her interest is: you or the money. You can be guarenteed it will poison the relationship. And then their was the case in Terron Colorado, Cali a few months ago where a gringo sent her money, the Colombian boyfriend found out about it, kidnapped her to extort the gringo and ended up killing her in Ginebra.

Atrevido comments on best way to send money to the girlfriend

Other options: I don´t know what Western Union charges but the cheapest for you might be giving her a US debit card the next time you see her. Obviously it would be one that you don´t need to use for yourself in the states. You just deposit and she withdraws from atms. Depending on the US bank the card is from the bank fees on a $260.00 (or $500.000 peso) atm withdrawal are around $3.

Atrevido comments on a cellular phone issue

Most people just buy minutes. That way you can always say "no tengo minutos" when you don´t want to call some one. I have a Nokia (about $30US) that I bought from TIGO. It´s one of their cheapest phones with no bells or whistles but has a better antenna than their more expensive models, important when you´re in areas with limited signal.

Atrevido comments on Grow my own

If you use gallanaza be sure to mix it into the soil and let it decompose a month before planting otherwise it can burn.

Atrevido comments on **Great New Hostel in Cali**

Oops there they are.

Atrevido comments on **Great New Hostel in Cali**

Looks like a nice enough house from the pictures but too bad the link doesn´t supply any info like prices etc.

Atrevido comments on Malaria in SanCipriano?

We had to sleep under a toldillo the year and a half we lived in barrio La Flora near Chipichape . The mosquitos were really bad. The repellent I had to use nightly took the paint off my computer. A friend who still lives in La Flora got Denge last year. I´m glad to be out of there. Thankfully don´t have that problem at all now living at 2100 meters.

Atrevido comments on A class action lawsuit re credit card foreign transaction fees, Visa, MC, several U.S. Banks

Good heads up sloop. Only transactions up to Oct 2006 are covered by this.

Atrevido comments on

Cheating (or in Colombian speak being "folklorico") is the foundation of modern Colombian culture. Drive a brand new eighty or ninety million campero to your finca where you had your mayordomo make an "arreglo" that runs most of the electric around the meter.

Atrevido comments on need help identifying a spider in Bucaramanga

If you search "arañas venenosas colombianas" on Colombian Google, Colombia pages there´s quite a lot of information.

Atrevido comments on Deleted?

I spent a fair amount of time preparing and posting images to that thread, all wasted. I´ve learned a lesson.

Atrevido comments on Colombian Nikita

MaFe perdon.

Atrevido comments on

Poco that´s a nice picture you took of a male Vermillion Flycatcher. Tripods are good for a hawk in a tree or ducks on a lake but not very usefull for small birds that move around. I can´t find the one you´re talking about but here´s one with the "ears": sparkvioletear And a full frontal view: sparkvioletear And now I promise no more Sparkling Violetear shots!

Atrevido comments on Colombian Nikita

Mafe there´s no movie...yet.

Atrevido comments on

sloopskipper how about Blue-chested Hummingbird (Amazilia amabilis)? It´s smaller than the Rufous at three and a quarter inches.

Atrevido comments on

Poco maybe this is the one. Don´t remember where I had it posted before. The Ears You guys who have AA battery powered cameras should treat yourselves to POWEREX 2700 mAh AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries and charger. I photographed everything in sight for a whole week (including lots of flash) in Capurganá on a single charge. They´re just amazing.

Atrevido comments on

The range of the Sparkling Violetear is from northern Venezuela south to Argentina and the altitude where it´s found is mainly 2100m to 3100m so you wont have seen it in Panamá. As I think I mentioned in another thread your bird looks to me like one of the Plumeleteers. Size is a problem though. Rufous-tails are 3.6" and both Plumeleteers are larger, 4.2 and 4.5. The Sparkling Violetear is big, 5".

While we´re on the topic here are three I photoed the other day at a friend´s finca 100m below mine. Green Honeycreeper Green Honeycreeper Golden Tanager Golden Tanager Blue-capped Tanager Blue.capped tanager

Atrevido comments on Creepy Pets: Huge Beetles Sell for $130 each ( Colombia Money Making Idea )

Those beetles don´t do anything that would bother a human being. They break down wood. However I think that post of DD showing an Indian girl cooking a baby in a pot is really disgusting.

Atrevido comments on Fine For Overstaying Visa?

Miami thanks for that research I apreciate it. The drawback is that the rules of the game with DAS change with a fair amount of frequency so I am hoping for an updated response to the question.

Atrevido comments on What Is Chavez Plan?

Poco I like your plan to reforest bombed out FARC camps (where ever they are). I´ll even donate.

Atrevido comments on San Andres Island has anyone every lived there?

I believe becoming a resident is very difficult and there´s sort of an underground marriage trade used to accomplish residency. I know two wealthy caleños who have vacation properties there. They can come and go as they please but I don´t think they can stay permanently. Or maybe being wealthy caleños they finagled residency.

Atrevido comments on No Country for Old Men... probably the best movie ever made (Per ColombianoGringo, this may contain spoilers)

I´ve already lent the book (by Cormac MaCarthy) to a couple of friends. I hope it keeps getting returned. Looking forward to the movie.

Atrevido comments on What Is Chavez Plan?

But you evidently have no doubts about Hugo Chavez intentions in the region. Colombians do and they think increased cooperation amongst Latin american countries begins with capturing or at least kicking out illegal armed groups that kill and kidnap your law abiding citizens.

Atrevido comments on Scuba on the Pacific Cost of Colombia

Both Bahia Solano (Refugio Mr Jerry) and Nuquí (Piedrapiedra Lodge) offer scuba diving as well as jungle hiking.

Atrevido comments on another possibility to make a little money in Colombia that people haven´t really touched on

Sounds like a good idea but I´d want their liver in escrow.

Atrevido comments on What Is Chavez Plan?

What does President Bharrat Jagdeo have to say, has he joined the fold?

Atrevido comments on good advice for those that live here

So la campiña nobody saw your "news" yourself included. End result no advice at all...

Atrevido comments on What Is Chavez Plan?

Ahh ok.

Atrevido comments on finding quiet in bogota

The quietest place in Bogotá is the botanical garden. Of course I don´t think you can sleep there.

Atrevido comments on What Is Chavez Plan?

Well jonas you may be in for a big surprise if you think Chavez is just a clown. Who is W? The US will never be touched by Venezuela´s weapons or need to do your "dirty job", it´s Colombia that´s at risk. As to me personally? no I´m not afiliated with an Israeli commando unit.

Atrevido comments on good advice for those that live here

No TV. What´s up?

Atrevido comments on How to take a taxi.

What is the "come here" motion in Haiti? For shooing I keep a broom handy.

Atrevido comments on How to take the regular bus

The buses in Barranquilla are notorious for giving the pasenger a split second to board. It´s like you better be athletic.

Atrevido comments on How to take a taxi.

If you´re going to worship those one and two mil peso notes don´t let them get too close to a burning votive candle. Good post but a couple of things: if one were refering to taxis in Cali the fare from the airport is fixed to the bridge at the edge of the city after that the meter rolls till you get to your destination. Like yummyi I always sit in the back. It´s more comfortable. The Colombians I know don´t round up the fare and certainly don´t tip. If the fare is quatro mil ochocientos that´s what they pay. Me too. And I think it´s a little smoother to say "igualmente".
