Atrevido comments on Colombia Nature Images

I know some of them on sight. Others I have to figure out and there´s nothing like digital photography to take up the slack.

Atrevido comments on Colombia Nature Images

Thanks friends, just a good camera and some research. Kenblanquito there´s actually a large number eco-tourism businesses operating throughout Colombia these days including my friends at EcoAventura in Cali.

Atrevido comments on How can I get a Colombian Drivers License?

I would swing by a driving school and have them explain the timeline for the changes (and what they are).

Atrevido comments on How can I get a Colombian Drivers License?

It´s my understanding that the rules are changing and you will no longer be able to have the driving school get your licence for after taking a course. I also understand that those of us with licenses issued a while back which have no expiration date will in fact have to get a new licence in the future.

Atrevido comments on What Does "Bill" Mean?

Ok thanks all. Vile...except a Colombian I asked said it was a palabra grosera which wouldn´t be the case in English. And I immediatly see I should have tried changing the "b" to a "v". Maybe there´s an unseen subtle difference like that word "aburrido" which in my dictionary just translates to "bored" as in I´m bored, I have nothing to do but in common usage means more like mildly to seriously dissatisfied.

Atrevido comments on hoy jueves noviembre 12 DIA SIN CARRO

There were still some cheaters on the road especially motos.

Atrevido comments on Cali restaurants

Restaurante Canela Y Candela is a nice upscale restaurant in Dapa that does eventos like that. Very nice ambience.

Atrevido comments on ROOM TO RENT, CALI

Buongone when you said "Is it heated? Or the rooms?" you didn´t mean are the rooms heated did you?

Atrevido comments on Reasonably Priced Cali Hotel In North End?

Thanks cake, another good tip.

Atrevido comments on Reasonably Priced Cali Hotel In North End?

GregYohn that was a good tip. They do have air and a parqueadero and the price is $60.000. I will check it out in person tomorrow. Thanks.

Atrevido comments on Reasonably Priced Cali Hotel In North End?

GregYohn thank you I´ll check that out. Davedyamiga did you read my post? Do you have a suggestion for something that meets the requirements I presented including price of $100.000 per night? Or are you spamming?

Atrevido comments on Has anyone been to this Amusmement Park in Valle Del Cauca?

Billyb, better to check the map. Buga is an hours drive from Cali, Pereira and Armenia are more like three and a half to four hours drive from Cali. Buga is an easy day trip but the other two cities would make for a very, very long day, like going to Parque El Cafe. Cartago is even further.

Atrevido comments on Has anyone been to this Amusmement Park in Valle Del Cauca?

Here´s a long promotional article about the park: http://parkzone.es/2008/02/16/colombia-vertigo-theme-park-buga-nuevo-parque-tematico/ I wonder where it is in or around Buga. I´ve been up to Sonso recently and it certainly isn´t on that side. Here´s a quote from the article that is obviosly not directed at readers from either Buga or Cali. "En plena selva ¿Se imagina un parque de atracciones ubicado en plena selva con 2 millones y medio de metros cuadrados?… y que además tenga la montaña rusa más grande del mundo… Pues le queda poco para ser una realidad, después de año y medio de trabajos en la localidad de Buga, a tan sólo 30 minutos de Cali, en el Valle del Cauca, una zona agrícola de las más productivas del país americano." The biggest Roller Coaster in the world in the middle of the jungle near Buga? And only thirty minutes from Cali...There´s something wrong with this picture. The only way you´re going to get in the middle of the woods anywhere near Buga is in the Cordillera Central which is a principal stronghold of you know who. I can see just see the headlines in El Pais, "FARC Holds Hostage Biggest Montaña Rusa In The World". Anyway I guess before that happens you could swing by after Mass.

Atrevido comments on Overweight, socially inept, badly dressed gringos

Why is the guy in the photo gringo? He could easily be Canadian.

Atrevido comments on Hotel Canadiense

I don´t remember the exact difference now but yes it was significant. The Monte Carlo was more comfortable because of that breeze. Also the room was adequatley clean. I guess if you wanted any thing extra you could tip the maid a little. Both of them are on the main north south thorofare through the city. An economical roast chicken place was next door.

Atrevido comments on Hotel Canadiense

I stayed at Hotel Canadiense for one night (it was fine) but then moved down the street a couple of blocks (south) to the Hotel Monte Carlo it was cheaper still and the rooms were fine. I was on the north side of the building and got a good breeze. Stayed there eleven days. I wouldn´t do a lot of wandering around at night alone there but apart from that it seemed ok.

Atrevido comments on utopiacowboy informs me he has a new Colombian neighbor...

Why wasn´t the car a Porche?

Atrevido comments on I escaped from Venezuela!!

Martin when you get the resident visa it shoul be permanent. What you have to renew every five years is your cedula with DAS. I can see why. Mine is only a couple of years old but the image is completely unrecognizable. I met a guy at Platypus in Bogota a few years ago who did the same thing. Rode his bike from New York City and was on his way to Tierra Del Fuego.

Atrevido comments on I escaped from Venezuela!!

Why will your next visa be a resident visa? And what kind of motorcycle?

Atrevido comments on Leave Those Spark Plugs And Your Glock At Home!

I´m completely lost now: "I am talking about your little boys serving their community time". Are you reffering to child prostitution or gangbangers recently released from prison or something else? Anyway I like your suggestion about making the agents suspect you have lots of dollars in order to scare them. What kind of body language do you use? Do you like raise your eyebrows at them or wink or something?

Atrevido comments on Leave Those Spark Plugs And Your Glock At Home!

So the inspection agents at Alfonso Bonilla airport in Cali earn $70.000 a month or is that quincena? Or do you mean they earn seventy thousand US dollars? If the former I feel very ashamed as I really should have given the poor lad something.

Atrevido comments on Leave Those Spark Plugs And Your Glock At Home!

Good info. I hope I get not searched a lot. I´m not sure I understand though, are you saying Shakira could get away with bringing in a crankshaft? Anyway I guess if I get the green light next time and I´ve got front and rear main bearings in my bag I´ll just have to learn to live with myself after that lapse into moral turpitude.

Atrevido comments on Leave Those Spark Plugs And Your Glock At Home!

Greg John correct. As to "law" there is evidently some flexibility. I think he just took pity on me because when he opened my second bag a bottle of liquid I´d packed had been opened by TSA and not re-tightened so it had leaked all over the contents. Anyway what if I´d gotten the green light? Also it so happened that none of the baggage from my flight was run through the x-ray so maybe I would have gotten my Glock in too (if I had one...) That assuming it got by those TSA sons of bitches in Miami of course. As to my memory no I didn´t forget to mention anything. This is the complete statement on the back of the DIAN form: "Travelers cannot bring as luggage, goods such as tires, automobile spare parts, guns, ammunition or explosives." Which of those six catagories does a bicycle fit into?

Atrevido comments on San Andres to Providencia - New Fast Boat Service - 2 hours

I was just in Providencia and the word is this service is completely provisional. I hope it lasts.

Atrevido comments on retiring in columbia

I have lived at 2100m (around seven thousand feet) outside Cali for about five years. Average daytime temperature is 65F.

Atrevido comments on Capitulaciones Or Pre-Nup Agreement In Colombia?

Well lets hope there isn´t one. What she signed sounds like a "post nuptial" agreement which I´ve also heard of.

Atrevido comments on Capitulaciones Or Pre-Nup Agreement In Colombia?

So the capitulaciones acuerdo protects only property owned prior to the marriage and any aquisitions that occur during the marriage must be split 50/50 is that right?

Atrevido comments on Birdwatching Tours In Cali

That´s interesting Bill, small world it is. Evidently Hilty has returned to Colombia after a 23 year absence to lead (very expensive) birding tours: http://www.proaves.org/article.php?id_article=628

Atrevido comments on Colombia seeks eco-tourism boost

I took Spanish one time in Panama. Later my teacher who wasn´t making much money teaching wrote me about a scheme he had for an ecotourism business. It would of course be geared to North American men. He would arrange tours to visit jungle sites to see birds butterflies and other wildlife and the gentleman would be accompanied by an attractive young panameña "guide". Ah...the Latin mind. I wrote back and said great and they could wear short little Leopard skin sarongs.

Atrevido comments on Birdwatching Tours In Cali

Thank you Bill, very kind of you.

Atrevido comments on Birdwatching Tours In Cali

That wasn´t an "a" I hit? damn!

Atrevido comments on Are you planning to buy Colombia real estate ?

"sold several years ago-thank GOD!" I thought you posted that you ended up giving it to the mayordomo.

Atrevido comments on

I doubt they are particularly "involved" out side of their "events". If you want to helpl an orphanage you should go directly to that orphanage and leave marriage agencies that are "saving face" out of the picture.

Atrevido comments on Colombian Butterflies

Don´t forget that the Cali Zoo has an excelent "Mariposario" or however you say it.

Atrevido comments on

I can´t say, it would be deleted...

Atrevido comments on

I see the moderaters don´t appreciate irony...oh well. Anyway TLC Worldwide has been offering dating/introduction tours for years to various latin american countries. At these tours they invite hundreds of local girls to attend parties on two different nights. One year they held their event in Caracas. A lady reporter from a TV news station attended the first night and produced a scathing report saying the event was full of prostitutes etc. The second night no girls showed up and TLC was told it wasn´t welcome in Caracas...and had some very angry male customers. Following that fiasco they hooked up with an orphanage in each of the cities they brought their events to. At the beginning of each tour they sit the men down to listen to a presentation by a representative of of the orphange who brings along some cute actual orphans then the hat is passed among the male clients. In this way they ingratiate themselves with the host city (without any out of pocket by TLC) and avoid what happened to them in Caracas.

Atrevido comments on Are you planning to buy Colombia real estate ?

I already did. I used fincasdelvalle in Cali and the experience was smooth and easy thanks to them.

Atrevido comments on Colombian Butterflies

Lisa Zee you have some very nice photos. Why don´t you add some to the "Mariposas" album I started in the "Pictures" section.

Atrevido comments on Colombia Birds

http://www.rnoa.org/newimages/archivos/eno2009/xxiieno2009 informacion.pdf This looks interesting and I may try to make it. In the Cali/Dapa area there are many birdwatchers. Contact this organization: http://calidris.org.co/

Atrevido comments on Hotel Near Parque Puracé?

Yes I think they´re called Termales San Juan. The water is tibia not actually hot but if you hike in the trail that leads from the park headquarters about a kilometer there are hot springs.

Atrevido comments on What is a chucha

If you are walking in the woods in Colombia and suddenly smell a strong scent like onion it´s because a chucha passed by there recently. They produce the odor with a special gland. Probobly why arm pit odor got the name.
