AngelGabriel comments on Why are Colombian men so attracted to blonde gringas?

Feelin' hot hot hot Latin women are hot. Period. Anglo girls are pretty.
Scandinavian beauties are not behind at all mate, just give them some salsa/merengue music & they become even more sexy & more earthy; come down and feel some of the mambo, to them I say!!!!!!!!

AngelGabriel comments on my long lost love in Medellin Help!

Seemingly Conservative Paisa... About two weeks ago I met an interesting woman from Medellin. She's been in NY for about three months. Initially, she didn't want to dance with me, as she's not used to the clubbing atmosphere here or in Colombia, however, she said I looked well-dressed & mature compared to the other alpha males in the spot :)
She is an educated woman in her early 30s,who's held jobs as "contadora" & some other executive gigs in Medellin. We have talked about many things but some I recall her saying that women in Medellin are pretty "liberadas". She seemed defensive in the beginning but has open up to me a lot more. For the sake of being exact & considering what she said about many liberadas women over there; she seems rather prude, and I mean this in a good way. I got the impression that it's just like in other places, with the womem's liberation movement all over the world, sounded like you'll see a little of everything everywhere.
Another interesting note, according to her, there are a lot more foreigners seen in Medellin than 6 years ago, when explosions & gunshots were heard from home on a daily basis. Things are getting better.

AngelGabriel comments on In the Colombian Culture, what happens if the Husband catches his wife cheating in a Marriage?

Cheat So, generally, the Colombianas do not tend to cheat or stray on side with a certain someone. Think of a long-distance relationship.

Would you all say that's the general consensus -if it can be made- about Colombian women?

Actually, it cannot be an actual general consensus, but what's the take on agreeing that they don't generally cheat?

I know this is an extreme generalization.

AngelGabriel comments on Good Colombian Restaurants/Clubs in NYC?

La Conga There's this nice & cozy colombian bar/restaurant in New Rochelle, I-95 north, exit 15, main street to your right, called La Conga. Restaurant during the day & dancing at night, mainly Fridays & Saturdays. They play a lot of Salsa; it's a mixed young & mature crowd.

AngelGabriel comments on translation help please....

From Translation to Eco Economics make a difference; individuals become empowered. Machismo can be brought along with the upbringing; maybe some women know how themselves are ;)& subtlely teach their kids some of these of machismo values/traits unknowingly & even directly. Cause & effect perhaps...we men are babies until we start interacting with women. Behind every great man is a great woman, and that woman can be a mother.

AngelGabriel comments on what makes colombian women beautiful?

gringa represents to feminity.... "gringa represents to feminity what the anti-christ represents to christianity"
Some days, I'd more or less agree with that, anywhere 200 miles radius of NYC; gringas or latin women.

However, a gringa ("white" woman) is not exactly the same as an "americanized" (for the sake of being somewhat clear:) latin woman in the US, even if the latter have changed (for the better??) due to socio-economic-and-multiple-options reasons.

It is very easy to generalize.

AngelGabriel comments on I want to live in Medellin? But will it be safe for living as a foreigner?

Thanks for all the safety comments in this & all other posts. It does intrigues me that Medellin has the "highest per capita murder in Colombia" How can all the women (and kids) be in the middle of it all?

AngelGabriel comments on "La Primera Noche"

Interesting

AngelGabriel comments on Lonely American Man In Cúcuta, Norte de Santander

Asylum SlmyBall, I think you chose the wrong country for whatever asylum you have or seek. Didn't you say women in Honduras were throwing themselves at you in some other post about colombian women? I reckon you'll be just fine in Tegucigalpa. You will be adopted & the girls there will easily adopt & care for you well. Think about it or hit the gym...

AngelGabriel comments on just back & still alive & not married...exactly what i expected

Safety Issue in Medellin UtopiaCowboy
Hello, yes, we have read about safety in many aspects here on these posts. Drilling the "thinking about the "safety" issue in Medellin", what does this mean exactly? Car bombs? Typical delincuency found in just about every big city? Kidnappings? Drunks?
Being more specific would be nice.
A colombian friend of mine who's never been to Medellin (his family is from there) mentioned guys with "machetes" come after you in some neighborhoods.
Also, my colombian dentist from Bogota, told her I was planning a trip to Medellin & she gave me a look like, why?? that it was better to visit Cali, that there's a lot "malicia" going around.

Hey I don't mean to scare some people from visiting Medellin (never been there myself) but we all get different opinions from people.

Desi, you ever been to Medellin?

AngelGabriel comments on what makes colombian women beautiful?

being a woman in colombia.... I missed that post.
To the colombian men here on this site, what do you guys think of that "being a woman in colombia is extremely hard at the moment"?
Why specifically? We can assume & it might have already being mentioned in previous Threads.
To others from different countries, & have been there and/or have experience with Colombian women, what do you think?

AngelGabriel comments on what makes colombian women beautiful?

Everywhere There are good "peaches" everywhere from every freaking nation in the world, maybe colombianas got that little extra "peachyness"

AngelGabriel comments on Colombian Women

Safe Yes, It is not safe at the moment like it placidly was a few years ago. I'm a poster who has yet to visit Colombia, however, it does seem safer when I think of Cartagena or Cali, compared to the harsh & in-your-face gang-related violence & crimes raging in some central american cities & neighborhoods.

AngelGabriel comments on Colombian Women

Hond..Guat... I'm from a central american country myself. So far, in my short stay on this planet, I've traveled & lived in El Salvador, Honduras & other places. Have spent some weekends on the border towns of Guatemala & Honduras. Those countries are some of the poorest in Latin America & could be less tolerant to “obvious” strangers looking specifically for “toys”. Careful mate, you could get in some deep $hIT.

Although the above poster (Slimy) was voicing his opinion & was being pretty general about types of women, etc., My opinion, all women from any country are not to be molded into something like a “toy” --unless you got a fantasy with your wife/girlfriend, etc-- or recommend a place to look for that, specially in places where people are a little desperate to make ends meet, etc. Corruption can come back to haunt you.
It's like advocating something that's not right mate, I mean, say whatever you want but there's something inherently wrong about saying something like that about girls from Guatemala or Honduras or any place. I'm sure the natives of these countries would not be kind to you if they knew what you said or think.

|However, all opinions are welcome anyway, Cheers, enjoy while you can!

AngelGabriel comments on More Changes

Pictures Yes, many posters go to Colombia, come back "alive" & rejuvenated & never upload any picts...Please, start uploading some pictures, don't be shy ;)

AngelGabriel comments on need to teach myself Spanish fast....HELP!!!

Latinos in Scandinavia Desi,

Thanks for your reply, interesting.

Latin men in Scandinavia: What are our chances in the nordic lands?

We can create a new thread for this one.

Thanks again!

PS. Learn Spanish and you'll get portuguese on sale, very similar.

AngelGabriel comments on Colombian Women

Hey... So, do I have it made for knowing Spanish and being Cariñoso, hard worker, "cute", intelligent????? ;)

Slow on the sayings, "baptist minister in a *****house", what what?
Only my personal experience but Lima and Cusco in Peru, felt like being in NYC, I mean really. My friends kept saying something about Iquitos, Peru.

AngelGabriel comments on need to teach myself Spanish fast....HELP!!!

Series Teppar, try the Pimsleur 6 CD for understanding & speaking some Spanish ( not writing or reading). I've used it for German & it's actually pretty good. They have the 10 CD & the 20 CD series sets. 20 minutes daily should give you consistency. I think dover publications has a good Spanish grammar book, those are like $5.95 I think, very good, although a little bit advanced.
Usborne publications has a title book, Easy Spanish. Once again, I've used the Easy German book, and can say it's good. Like you mentioned, Instant Spanish by TY, the ones that says INSTANT SPANISH in big letters in the cover, not the one with some picture or painting by the same publisher, is recommended.

AngelGabriel comments on need to teach myself Spanish fast....HELP!!!

Understanding Either Language(s) Desi, thanks for the insight

1. Would a Danish have a hard time understanding a Swedish & viceversa?

2. Would a Norwegian understand both (even barely, 40% or so) just fine?

3. Would a Swedish understand both Danish & Norgewians?

4. Does Sweden has more political & social importance & presence in Scandinavia now, or ever since...? This is in regards to the countries that considered, or care about being labeled or part of "Scandinavia"

5. For the sake of undertanding this question, the native americans were the "first" in the Americas. I think the the scandivanian countries have or had a "native" "ethnic" people, right? If so, do you know what they're called?

Thanks again

AngelGabriel comments on need to teach myself Spanish fast....HELP!!!

Question, Desi... Desi, correct me if I'm wrong, I think you're Norwegian.
An educated Spanish person can read & understand Brazilian/Portuguese quite good, although, the same can't be said when it comes to fully understanding & applying the grammar.

Don't believe everything you read, but I read about "Scandinavian languages" being very, very similar. The best approach is to learn Norwegian first, and that it'll be easier understanding & communicating with the Swedish & the Danish. Is that so? Spanish & Portuguse speakers can ask & understand each other when they ask for the bathroom, or shopping at the mall, w/o prior studies of the language(s). In that context, is this the same for a Norwegian speaker in Sweden & Denmark, and viceversa?
Thanks!

If you don't mind my asking, why did get "shot" in Bogota? Was there any political, social event tied to it, or just plan burglary, etc?

AngelGabriel comments on People in Colombia in their 20s-30s waiting to get married

Ok Happen to live with my Mother, Sister & by choice. It varies from place to place & family to family, & even in the US, it's more than the casual economic reasons. We all help each other with the home bills & create a tighter family unit which, as I have noticed, tends to disintegrate in a fast-paced city like NY...Could have been living on my own about 6 years ago. Good to know, getting married in the 30s & 40s is welcoming thing in Colombia.
Is an older w0man marrying a young guy an odd thing down there?

AngelGabriel comments on The obsession with age

40 & Up Hello
"Many people believe that if you are 40 years old forget about meeting a woman, you are finished"
If this a general assumption in the States or in other places? Why would people think of single man no kids at the age of 40? I'm in my twenties, I'd see that as perfectly fine. Is it a requirement being
"married"? Would surely like to have a steady, loving, interesting company as I grow into my late 40s & beyond...Thanks!

AngelGabriel comments on Going to Colombia this weekend, looking for that special someone. Any tips were and how to find her? Agencies recommended?

A Desi Book Yes, it would be interesting t0 have Desi with her own "essays" about life in Colombia. I bet she's a Virgo.

AngelGabriel comments on Going to Colombia this weekend, looking for that special someone. Any tips were and how to find her? Agencies recommended?

Should be a new thread.... Dear Camachog & all,

If someone has three weeks to visit Colombia, what towns/cities are a must to visit, & for long should a visitor spend at each city?
Cartagena seems to be the one that might required the most time to fully explore it. Cali might be another one. Barranquilla doesn't seem like there's much to see (besides partying) & not sure about Medellin. If you provide info about Pereira, that'll be great as well.
TIA (Thanks in advance)

AngelGabriel comments on Going to Colombia this weekend, looking for that special someone. Any tips were and how to find her? Agencies recommended?

Sin Sentido (Senseless) Robert, you sound a bit senseless yourself, no offense.
Many here can come off that way: "senseless", or is it only a selected few (like me :( ???. Make sense of my post, maybe you'll get it, whatever I said & whatever it means to you.
Don't be to grumpy ;) relax & have fun...Don't let NYC get to you. We're all in the same boat here, of course all foreigh women "change" here, what do you expect??

AngelGabriel comments on Going to Colombia this weekend, looking for that special someone. Any tips were and how to find her? Agencies recommended?

My Dear Latin Paisano... Roberto, to each his own. There's no denying it there's something about certain women. Colombian Women, etc. Period. Everyone has an opinion & yours is quite welcome here ;)
Whether for culture or the girls, at least there's some kind of influx in tourism which helps Colombia over all. You got to see the positivity in all this. Someone is willing to go down there, considering how "dangerous, unsafe" it can be (anywhere really), and spend some money. Hey, you're very welcome here in AnySouthAmericanTown, Dude, come back again by all means, just be safe & look out after yourself at all times!
Think. If you know how to do it; You're married & have a mistress. You're spreading the goods almost evenly between two women & their loved ones, etc. You're the spreading goods (materially, emotionally, etcetera) synergistically in a way. Morally, wrong, yes it might just be, but there's not buts really...

AngelGabriel comments on Safe in Colombia? Yes...the question is: Is It safe to live in the U.S.A?

Castellano Well, it doesn't matter whether you know the language or not since you're flying down there this weekend, however, I think you SHOULD know some Spanish if going to Colombia, get the pimsleur 6 CD & go hardcore into it, you might be fine with just that. Take your cat also & tell us how good is Cali & Cartagena. Have fun !!!!!!!

I was wondering if you got any word (s) about Pereira. Just anything you want to say about that city. That town calls my subconsciousness a lot. I'm also working in a website in Spanish related to computers, etc. Perhaps we can link each other's site eventually.

AngelGabriel comments on Going to Cali

Colombian Women... Guess there's something about a Colombian woman that attracts a man. Í live in New York & know a couple of "Colombian Women". They're A pleasure to talk to. Ones I've met are pretty smart, upbeat, even intelligent to keep up with in conversations, dynamic in a way & some don't even want to talk to you if you don't drive a good car, the latter applies to other nationalities as well. Superficialty, then they thrown stuff on us (in NY). Don't take those seriouly. All latin women change when in the USA, there are no buts. A guy must thinking with his other head firmly to bring a girl he just met a few months ago to the US, that should be a no-way-jose. The original post of the of this thread is 36 & his other half, 34. It might be different since they both have been thru some life and on their own, they might fit just right for each other. Personally, if you're single & between, 18 - 35 (?), just have fun. Relax, go to Thailand, Sweden (Inga still single), Colombia ( Maria is not there anymore), have fun, enjoy life in a healthy manner, don't go looking for a woman to have a serious relationship. The best thing to do is to be "friends" with women & someone will come along or you'll find one eventually, just don't go looking for serious thing, from whatever nationality she is. Take it for what it's worth. See her as a great human being that makes us guys lifes exciting & fulfilling. That's a mutual thing actually. Yeah, you've heard all of this before.

AngelGabriel comments on Going to live in Periera

Steven, Are you in... Steven, Are you in Pereira? Ever been there? What do you reckon is one of the best things about that city? Can "easy-fun-does-it" be applied here? How safe in terms of crime, delinquency? And, of course, mate, you reckon they'll hear you say tea-time & understand bed-time? Has estado en Pereira, que tal es? Facil para gozarlA con las nenas lindas sanamente? Es cierto si les decis tiempo de tomar un te, escucharan tiempo pa' ejercicio de musculos en la cama?? Gracias Kompa!

AngelGabriel comments on I bought the ticket

Worse than other cities??? Hello UtopiaCowboy, Hope all is well.
"Now if they had said it was a place with some of the most dangerous neighborhoods on earth, I would have to agree. Or a place with an alamingly high murder rate, again I would have to agree. However it is a dramatically beautiful city, set in a big valley with mountains surrounding the city" Why is that you came with that conclusion? My impression, and ít's really only that, Medellin is a pretty advanced "civilized" society, place compared to other Colombian cities. Yes, to generalize, crime is all over central & south america, the entire world. That comment sounds scary, I mean, should I lay off the teaching-english gig I can possibly get because of that?
Thanks!

AngelGabriel comments on 3 WEEKS IN COLOMBIA

Why not Cali? Dweller,
What happened to Cali? Never been to Colombia but planning a month vacation in the very near future...I wouldn't skip Cali. So far, based on what I've read & heard, personally, Bogota does not APPEAL ME as much to visit, a pretty big metropolitan city.

AngelGabriel comments on What are the warning signs that a Colombian girl w/ daughter is only after papers and not love?

Bueno, Creo que no tengo vela en este entierro, but the "good riddance" comment was funny. Saint, partially agree with you about the Money, I mean, cmon, just about every guy in the NYC, Miami, Fort Lau can almost (perhaps by an acute perception) agree that many women ( with all due respect to sincere women, you got to make sure you're not offending/bothering anybody nowdays)- it's about money, dinero, pisto y plata. Think. I've been to London & met colombian & other latin women, & although it's usually our own perceptions that can shape our experiencies, some things are just obvious anywhere you go & life is hard & HARDER in other places. Still, have a little heart for the good ones...

AngelGabriel comments on Cali 1st timer

Learning Advice Spanish gramar can be similar to french,or any romance language, so do not be scared!!!
Find a basic book, textbook, workbook that gives a good grounding in the grammar of the language, get a phrase book, find newspaper, magazine or website in Spanish, also, if you can get ahold of a schoolbook or reading material, like those of 5th or 6th grades, can give a sweet intro & understanding of the language. Lastly, get a cassette/cd course by the techniques developed by pimsleur, and you will be in your way to better understanding of Spanish or any language. Do not dwell in the grammar too much in the beginning, take a paragraph at a time but build consistency. Also a two-way dictionary helps. You got to be serious about learning a language & have fun at the same time.
Also, listen to some spanish music or view latin soap operas. Get in the frame of mind of the targerted language, if you want to learn any language, it's important to get in their mind-frame, culture, etc.

Spanish It really helps if foreigners to south america know 50% of Spanish, How can someone venture out to Colombia (?!) w/o knowing more hola como estas mami? Is Spanish that difficult to speakers of other non-spanish speaking countries??
