This is UUUUUUUUUUGLY! And for some heartfelt reason, I thought of all of guys here on PBH! I'm willing to give away a prize to whoever could find and put one of these flossy things on. Post your photo on this board and the ladies can assist me in determining the reward $$$. Seriously! I assume there are yoga studios in the city. Do you think this would ever catch on over there? Hey, maybe those of you living there can start the trend and win this contest! Be a man! Show us what y ...
I was searching for Colombian food recipes and this came up on the first page on Google! Wow...this is a very interesting read! I'm interested in hearing your thoughts about this since some of you may have more knowledge of how things are over there. COLOMBIA: The Food Basket Is Running Out By Helda Martínez TUTA, Boyacá, Colombia, Mar 18 (IPS) - Boyacá, known as the "food basket of Colombia", is currently the country’s second poorest province, and small farmers there say it is mor ...

A Colombiana told me that most men are "metrosexual" (a HETEROSEXUAL male who has a strong aesthetic sense and inordinate interest in appearance and style, similar to that of homosexual males). I am assuming that she means men who have money, of course, to afford fine things for themselves. Anyway, considering that Colombia is one of those countries that likes to display personal wealth, is there validity in this statement? ...
Does anyone know how to save all the videos kindly posted on this site onto a disc? I'd like to compose a dvd and give it to someone who is homesick at the moment. (She doesn't have access to a computer.) Thanks! ...
I had a knot in my stomach all day today when I found out my little "Tatiana" is having sex at just 15 years of age. Her mother works for peanuts in Bogota and Tatiana is left at home with her 13 year old sister and baby brother most days & nights in Madrid. Father is long gone-sounds all too familiar, doesn't it? They return to school next week and I hope, while I'm writing this, her mom is at Western Union picking up funds that will put the girls to school for another year and to buy Tatiana b ...
My friend and I were helping a Colombian family with their packing and they asked me, "Tienes afan?". I have heard my friend use this word "afan" with her boyfriend several times but as always, I assumed I understood. I replied, "No...no estoy bien..." Well, I was mistakened and it cost me. What I thought would be a 30 mins. task turned out to be 2 1/2 hours job! During that time, my friend sent me a text on my cell (and I was standing beside her!) saying that I should've said "Si, tengo afa ...
My mom, God bless her soul, has left behind 14 industrial sewing machines...the ones that are used in factories making clothes, etc. In addition, we have countless threads and an enormous stock of materials (everything from cotton, linen to vinyl and leather). I've had no luck getting rid of it here in Canada. So I was told to send it to a foreign country. Well, Colombia immediately came to mind. So can anyone send me any contact info as to who I can donate all this stuff to? Thanks in advance f ...
I'd like to know more about this special occasion that's celebrated when kids turn 15 years old? Is it equivalent to "sweet sixteen" or 19/21 when they can start voting? What are the expectations when one turns 15? What are the various festivities that are held? Formal/informal? What are the presents given, etc.- Thx ...
I've summed up a thought...and it's not my belief...just my biased opinion.
I only noticed that in the past posts that have been written here and from meeting Colombians here in my city that people of their own kind avoid each other. Hence, the gringos want to avoid others that visit CO, the Colombians prefer to be with other non-Colombians and, as for myself, I don't hang out with other people from my own country.
Kat, when you first moved to the UK, did you gravi ...
I mean the photo! This is still a Colombian topic moderators!
The hole is found in San Andres. I forgot the name...someone here will know the place I'm talking about...it's where the ocean waves crash into this cave and the force of the waves emit this mist out from the hole. It was really awesome. Apparently there have been some fatalies because the waves were giant and it swept some tourists or locals out into the ocean. ...
I feel like a broken record when I tell folks about why tourism is supposedly good in CO. Yet, PBH posts (some) tell the other side of the story. (I just won't tell them about PBH, then!)
I'm running out of good things to say! Please share with me what your passions are of Colombia so I can reiterate your words that may otherwise fall on deaf ears!
Please share specific examples and no generalizations please. (ie. good music, best salsa, etc.) I could use these esse ...
I didn't get to write up about how my weeks 3-5 went but I will summarize how I felt about staying there. I loved the food (gained 12 lbs and now can't fit into the tightest jeans I've ever bought-what was I thinking?! BTW, I only mentioned this first only b/c really, all I did was eat and drink!)
I love the families and friends that accommodated me in Mosquera. I preferred staying there than in Santa Barbara and north area of the city. The people of Mosquera, Madrid, Facatativa ...
Hi Everyone! I'm having way too much fun out here! Don't have the energy to write in details but I'll throw out some names and places I've visited and emphasize on some personal experiences I've had so far.
First and foremost, I've never prayed so much in my life! I pray before and after I ride the buses and taxis. I don't know who's crazier out here- the drivers, the cyclists or the pedestrians. I feel like I put my life in someone else's hands every time I leave Mosquera and fo ...
Hi Everyone (Kat, Desi, UC, etc.)!! I'm having a fantastic time here in CO. I've been here a week and I'm just exhausted from lack of sleep. Staying in Mosquera (strato 2) and I'm sooooo comfortable with the folks out here in the barrios. I played futbol with the locals and felt like I was having a heart attack. Harder to breathe out here! I've visited 11 barrios already...the farthest was out near La Catedral de Sal. All the barrios were pretty similar except some distinctions like who had the ...
Just feeling anxious about my trip. So let's hear what you all have to say about what you do know about Colombia in today's day and age.
Thanks to PBH, I've learned so much about Bogota! I feel like I've been there already! 31 days and counting...
My girlfriend has been quite impressed with what I tell her. Just to name a few:
1. prepago mujeres
2. Sin Tetas No Hay Paraiso
3. Joropo
4. Estratos (if you drive a car you're from 4-6?)
5. los discotecas
6. ATM
7. common phrases (I didn't tell her about the bad words I learned. And there were many I wouldn't know when or ...
I'm interested in seeing concerts, live bands in clubs (but not techo/rock music pls.), live shows (not stippers), bull fights, soccer games, parades, religious ceremonies, etc.
Also, are English subtitles included in the movies? ...
I've visited the websites of the 2 Deaf schools in Bogota: INSOR (Instituto Nacional para Sordos) and Fenascol. I'd like to know where Deaf people hang out.
I've noticed some similarities between ASL (American Sign Language) and LSC (Lengua de Señas Colombiana) but I want to learn more!
Has anyone seen any Deaf people gathering on a regular basis (ie. cafe, mall, clubs)? Pls don't list if you witnessed only a single interaction in LSC.
I'm seeking for places that are frequ ...

I was surprised to learn of the high percentage of plastic surgeries that women have because las cirugias son baratos. My best friend tells me it's the "moda" and that there's a saying in Colombia which translates to something like "if you don't have big breasts, it's not paradise for men." We were MSNing so I wasn't able to copy the quote down. Does anyone know the saying? Anyway, I told my friend that here in Vancouver, Canada it's the opposite. It's a turnoff actually for men here. Then my f ...
