Thanks for the heartfelt sympathy Portena. I really am scarred for life...got the X on my ass to prove it...jejeje...I get nauseous still when I see a needle. I think I was sad because I left my birthplace to come to Canada and there were so many pale looking people I didn't know where the hell I was. I was really scared. Back in 1973, we were one of the first filipino families to arrive here out west. I know I went through what most immigrants experience when they land on some foreign soil- the people, the food, the houses, the streets, the trees..I felt alienated. I wonder if others felt this way when they left Colombia and moved to US for example. But back then, I guess integrating into society couldn't have been that hard because there were enough of Latin communities to blend in with? Does this make sense?

"Colombians don't really wear shorts unless they're at home kicking it. They look down upon the people who do or they automatically assume they're foreigners, which is the case for the most part. It's rare to see someone wearing shorts in El Centro of most cities unless they just finished working out or playing soccer or if they're gamines or... if they're foreigners." But it's more okay for a man to wear shorts than a woman, correct? I didn't hear the end of it when I put on my "trekking" shorts. Everyone in the family, even the neighbour, kept going on and on about why women can't wear shorts in the city. And I'm thinking, "Yeah but they can wear short, short miniskirts?"

They care because Baltaazar, what could you possibly know about my experiences in CO and, most importantly, outside of Colombia?! Paleo, amen to that if you contest that most Colombian men aren't metrosexual! My experiences with such men have not been positive. How ironic, however, that the men I met who weren't metrosexual were the nicest to me and those that were, talk about arrogance!

My life seemed mundane, living day to day like a robot when, all of a sudden, out of nowhere I bumped into this woman who happened to be from Bogota. We've been inseparable ever since, visited her country and loved it of course. Dreading the day she'll have to leave Canada and may not be permitted to return...unless she gets married. If only her boyfriend would make up his mind!

Thanks all for the videos. I'm sure this will make my friend more homesick than she already is. Last time I tried to cheer her up, I took her to a Colombian restaurant and she cried more not because she was really missing her mom's homecooked meals but because the food was sooooooooooo bad.
