Nice Picture Well, I wouldn't get in the Amazon anyway with the huge snakes, crocs, piranhas, and the little thing they say swims up the guys willie. I like to see nature but not too up close and personal. The boat is the closest I get.

aluheln comments on For those that get pissed at the Spelling of Colombia

Colombia It isn't so bad when they spell it wrong and you can say that is C.O.L.O.M.B.I.A. What is bad is when they insist that it is spelled Columbia. There is no way to convince them that it is wrong.

aluheln comments on Immigration procedures at the Bogotá airport

Advice Did he make the connection? Were you worried for no reason? The good news is if you miss a flight they put you on the next one. They don't leave you in the airport forever.

Pico and Placa I think it is a great idea. Boca Grande was made for walking. Strikes are okay too. People should walk more.

I'm not Lisa Lisa left me years ago....such a sad song. Makes me cry every time I hear it. It is never a good idea to agree 100% with what anyone else says. I personally believe that it not possible only maybe with wives who are scared of their husbands or ?????? My eyes are not blue but they won't leave you.....

aluheln comments on Visa To another Countries

Visas The best thing to do is contact the consular office of the country you want to visit in the United States closest to the city you live in. You can usually find the e-mail on the website and most answer right away. If you don't get the answer soon contact others furthur away.

Japan changed it in 2005 that a Colombia does need a visa. Unless they changed it back. Check with the embassy for cost.

I...S...S...L...I...ROCKS I So Surely Love Igneous...Rocks. Colombia has some very nice igneous rocks. As I was researching ideas of sites in Colombia to observe some very nice igneous rocks, I was shocked to learn about the tragedy in Armero, Colombia in 1985 when the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz, erupted and the ensuing mudflows covered several towns killing an estimated 25,000 people. I know that has happened several times in history but it is still shocking when you hear about such a large number of lives lost. I wonder if they had any warning and just ignored it or if they didn't have any warning and were completely surprized. It is my understanding however that the only way to get lovely igneous rocks is from lava flows therefore something interesting and beautiful is created from the destructive and deadly force of terrible volcanoes. Obsidian is my favorite igneous rock. I would like to visit Armero in the future if there are no signs of volcanic activity of course.

Disrespect LISA.....I take offense to you calling women in Cartagena a HAREM.
If a group of women in the U.S. teaches a foreigner to dance the local dances are they a HAREM. What is the definition of HAREM?

har·em (hârm, hr-)
n.
1. A house or a section of a house reserved for women members of a Muslim household.
2. The wives, concubines, female relatives, and servants occupying such a place.
3. A group of women sexual partners for one man.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[Turkish, from Arabic arm, forbidden place, from arama, to prohibit; see rm in Semitic roots.]

Facts or Opinions? The negative criticisms here presented are only opinions and biases and not facts. This is a re-post of a letter that the same individual wrote on another post in July. http://poorbuthappy.com/colombia/node/19673

You should change your User ID if you don't want to express opinions and only give facts.
This is a continuing vendetta by a person who wishes to damage the reputation of an individual who, according to the writer, is a good teacher. At the end of the third week of a four week class, this individual dropped out of the class and demanded their money.
Individuals who wish to withdraw from programs usually do so at the beginning and not at the end.
In the letter the person fails to mention that the director of the institute spent countless hours planning and hosting this person and fellow students in activities that would enhance their learning of Spanish and their comprehension of Colombian culture solely because of his dedication to the students. The weekend excursions are for the enrichment of the students for practice of the language while exploring Colombia and coming in close contact with the real Colombia and its people. It is every weekend that the director devotes to the students to ensure that they receive the best possible experience and maximun practice with the language. These negative comments fail to mention what they got extra such as one student who received three days free stay in the director's home because the student arrived early and four days in the director's home during a weekend visit to another city.
Students make their own choice as to whether they will be in an apartment, hotel or with a family.
I suspect what happened with this individual to make them so bitter is like so many young people, they went to Latin America with an attitude that everything there has to work like it does in their home country: that everyone has to be obsessed with time like in the U.S., that young girls can make decisions about who they are going to date without the families approval, and that a language institute is not a real place unless it is a huge, shiny building with all the comforts of home. ISSLI is a part of Cartagena International School which this individual has judged by their U.S. standards and not by Colombian standards.
Who is the person who has an attitude, the director or the student? What makes a student a quitter, the teacher or the student? My advice is: Grow up and stop whining and crying when things don't go your way.
Feel free to contact me personally if you wish to talk to someone who has ahd a positive experience with ISSLI, its director, Spanish, Colombia, and its people.
