Albatross comments on Are Ingrid Betancourt and the Three Americans Free Oh, so I suppose Frances Gary Powers was a 'Spy"... OK, maybe a little.

Albatross comments on Are Ingrid Betancourt and the Three Americans Free Great... the Statue of Liberty with a smiley face.

Albatross comments on Betancourt running for PRESIDENT Well, she's smart enough to realize that now is her moment, so I'm not surprised she's making the most of it. I would also not be surprised if she runs for President in '10... or if she wins.

Albatross comments on Ingrid's Husband Well, she's smart enough to realize that now is her moment, so I'm not surprised she's making the most of it. I would also not be surprised if she runs for President in '10... or if she wins. (Sorry, duplicate, I meant to post this in the other thread.)

Albatross comments on Ingrid to leave Colombia within the next few minutes Yeah, speak American... but what makes you think I'm from Philadelphia ?
Albatross comments on Where are all the Uribe haters now? By the 'left" do you mean the left in the U.S. or the left in Europe or the almost whole of South America ?

Albatross comments on ABCNEWS.COM On Colombia Rescue Mission--Why such a lack of Interest?? NBC Nightly news (w/ Brian Williams) covered it more or less first thing last night. It's big news today, but it won't last, tomorrow it will be gone.

Albatross comments on Ingrid to leave Colombia within the next few minutes 'provenance"... what, is she a painting ? Actually, I agree with Elmo on this one, what is her big hurry to go to France ? (On second thought... who can blame her for wanting to get the hell outta there)
Albatross comments on Where are all the Uribe haters now? Uribe o no, ayer fue un buen dia para Colombia.
Albatross comments on Ingrid to leave Colombia within the next few minutes Jesus, Elmo... what the fok were you doing in the Congo ?

Albatross comments on Colombian's life not worth much in the US Yeah... don't mess with Texas... were all fuckin' Rambo down here. If you're caught shoplifting, we just might shoot you for that. Think it's OK to drive over the posted speed limit... well you just might get shot. (And we won't have no sympathy for your ass, 'cause you shouldn't have been speeding.) Fuckin' Liberals with their damn constitution... I didn't see no Texan sign it. "Due process"... "cruel and unusual punishment"... fuck that shit. Fuck with us, we'll fuckin' shoot you. God bless America

Albatross comments on Colombian's life not worth much in the US In the (Horn's) 911 call, the dispatcher urged Horn to stay inside his house and not risk lives. "Don't go outside the house," the 911 operator pleaded. "You're going to get yourself shot if you go outside that house with a gun. I don't care what you think." "You want to make a bet?" Horn answered. "I'm going to kill them." This had nothing to do with protecting his life or property, it was murder, plain and simple.
Albatross comments on Colombian's life not worth much in the US Texas 'Law" notwithstanding... Yes, you have the right to shoot someone entering your house... No, you don't have the right to go 'round your neighborhood looking to shoot people. That asshole (Horn) should have been convicted of two counts of second-degree murder... or manslaughter at the very least. (God, why can't we just give Texas back to Mexico ?)

Albatross comments on Colombia: A culture of violence? Equating freedom with violence is tenuous. True, sometimes freedom must be paid with blood. But most violence has absolutely nothing to do with freedom. Most revolutions have started with violence in an effort to secure freedom, but ended with violence for the sake of violence. The Colombian "Revolution" is no different, perhaps FARC did have freedom in mind in the beginning, but eventually it became just violence... nada mas. El Che never advocated violence, though he knew it was sometimes necessary. In the same way, Malcolm X knew... "(Freedom)... by any means necessary"

Albatross comments on The gringonazation of our youth in the interior of Colombia Actually, I don't think that the youth of Colombia embracing gringo culture (if that is actually happening) is much to really worry about. Anyone heard of the "British Invasion" of the 1960's ?... The Beatles, The Stones, The Kinks, The Who, The Yardbirds/Cream, Led Zeppelin, ect, more or less obliterated American Rock 'n Roll, but I don't think the U.S. is any worse off for it... better, in fact.

Albatross comments on Colombian Grirlfriend, travel restrictions Help Please! Cambodia is one of the coolest places I've ever been. Unfortunately, I didn't learn one freaking word of Khmer... and it is sooooo damn far.

Albatross comments on How to tell when Colombia finally reaches economic might Words of wisdom passed down through the ages... "Doody is the sublimest word in the language. You can never do more than your doody. You should never wish to do less." "Never step over one doody to perform another." "Do the doody which lies nearest to you, the second doody will then become clearer." "The most beautiful things in the universe are the starry heavens above us and the feeling of doody within us." "Do something every day that you don’t want to do. This is the golden rule for acquiring the habit of doing your doody without pain." "Without doody, life is sort of boneless - it cannot hold itself together." "Let us do our doody, in our shop in our kitchen, in the market, the street, the office, the school, the home, just as faithfully as if we stood in the front rank of some great battle, and knew that victory for mankind depends on our bravery, strength, and skill. When we do that, the humblest of us will be serving in that great army which achieves the welfare of the world." "How can we know ourselves? Never by reflection, but only through action. Begin at once to do your doody and immediately you will know what is inside you." "The reward of one doody is the power to fulfill another." "I slept, and dreamed that life was beauty - I woke, and found that life was doody." "The sense of obligation to continue is present in all of us. A doody to strive is the doody of us all. I felt a call to that doody." "When a stupid man is doing something he is ashamed of, he always declares that it is his doody."

Albatross comments on The gringonazation of our youth in the interior of Colombia I'm sorry, but some languages simply don't work for Heavy Metal. Spanish, French, Italian... they just don't cut it... they don't sound tough enough. English is good, I think Russian would sound good, but German is the best. There is just no way Latin Metal will ever sound as good as Metallica, Pantera, Tool or Rammstein.

Albatross comments on Colombia: A culture of violence? What has made Colombia "different" is not the violence, per se, but the organized violence... FARC, ELN, ect. There are plenty of countries in the Americas that are just as easy to get robbed or killed in, but none of them had such a notorious guerilla presence like Colombia, and no other country had so many people held captive in the jungle as Colombia became famous for. "Europeans are very rude with each other."... sorry but I lived for years in Europe and never noticed... there were times when people were not especially friendly, but I don't remember anyone ever being rude... not counting all the hotties who blew me off. There is one notable incident in Bosnia I happen to remember where some younger guy was ready to beat the crap out of an older guy who cut him off in traffic, but stopped just short of physical violence. (Come to think of it, I did get my nose broken in Prague by some dumb Czech... I never did figure out why) But I think if you spit in someones face in Europe, something would definitely happen.

Albatross comments on going to cartagena hopefully this week!! There are no pre-pagos in Cartegena, as a matter of fact, they're all pre-pagos.
Albatross comments on Switching languages can also switch personality: study Interesting theory, Desi... I think maybe it works on a physical level as well... I'm pretty sure I've become better hung after all the Snoop lyrics I've busted. And whenever I sing along with Rammstein, I'm overcome with a strange desire to kick the shit outta Poland... or just about any other country in Eastern Europe.

Albatross comments on How to tell when Colombia finally reaches economic might The Colombianas in Queens are just pissed off that their new shithole is just like their old shithole. Its hard to blame a girl for being unhappy after coming all the way to America just to work 12 hours a day cleaning toilets and still live in a dump with their lazy Novio... hell thay could have had all that back in Colombia.

Albatross comments on Small code update today But can I post pictures of girls I don't think are "hot"... like Sofia Vergara, for example ?

Albatross comments on FARC at 4 Kilometers from Parque Tayrona! Shit... I've been planning to show my novia Santa Marta, Taganga and Parque Tayrona in a few weeks.

Albatross comments on How long does it take to process a K1 Visa, Fiance I-129F??? Thanks... I guess I'll have to come clean with my novia. I just hope she doesn't get pissed 'cause I lied and dump me on principle.
Albatross comments on How long does it take to process a K1 Visa, Fiance I-129F??? What are the chances of getting away with a false birthdate on a I-129F ( K-1 Visa) application ? When we first met, I told my novia that I was 5 years younger than I actually am... and would rather she didn't find out. I assume she will get a copy of the visa paperwork, so I was thinking about using the fake birthdate.

Albatross comments on Parque Bolívar, Medellín I've never stayed anywhere else BUT El Centro when I'm in Medellin. After dark, it quite definitely turns into a seedy area... but for me, that's the part of the charm. And so far at least, I haven't gotten robbed, knifed or shot. But I'm always aware that it's a possibility. If dirty, homeless drug addicts are a real problem for you, you'd better stay elsewhere.

Albatross comments on Colombian Department Store Wage What does "needn't be taken as picados, final" mean ? The problem is that after awhile, the "little white lies" about the small things become so common that you begin to wonder it they're telling the truth about the big things... do they love you ?... are they being faithful ?... ect.

Albatross comments on Continental service to Cali is no more. With fuel as high as it is, look for more airline route cuts and less flights on the remaining routes. And much higher fares... industry "experts" are predicing airfares to double or even triple across the board over the next few years. Better buy stock in Greyhound, 'cause thats how we'll all be travelling soon.
Albatross comments on Colombian Department Store Wage Actually, I'm a little suspicious that my novia might be stretching the truth. She lives with her mother who doesn't work... she said that about 50% of her salary goes towards the utilities, food for her family, ect. I told her that when she comes to live with me, I would give her the same amount to send to her mother for the house (until she gets a job here). But then when I asked her what she makes, she said 900,000 cop per month. I know the minimum is around 500,000, so I'm wondering if she padded her salary to get a little more from me. Not that the difference is going to break me, I just want to be sure I'm not getting played.

Albatross comments on A Debt of Honour "What fucked Germany in the end was basically that they ran out of oil and gas more than anything else, all silly romanticism aside." Actually, what "fucked" Germany is that they allowed a nutjob who wanted to rule the world the chance to try.

Albatross comments on Chavez calls ethanol production 'crime' P.S. Fuel Cells do not combust Hydrogen, but combine Hydrogen and Oxygen to produce electricity.
Albatross comments on Chavez calls ethanol production 'crime' Hydrogen is, in theory, the perfect fuel... Hydrogen combusted with Oxygen yields energy and water (H2O). However, air is not pure Oxygen (only about 21%), but contains Nitrogen as well as other gasses and chemicals. So in practice, Hydrogen combustion in air produces pollutants such as Nitrides of Oxygen (NOx) as well as trace amounts of Carbon Monoxide/Dioxide (CO, CO2), Sulfides of Oxygen... ect. But even so, Hydrogen is still, by far, an environmentally superior fuel to Hydrocarbon or Alcohol fuels.
Albatross comments on Chavez calls ethanol production 'crime' Here's an idea: people could stop spewing out children and walk more.

Albatross comments on A Debt of Honour ... Barney is homosexual ?... who's next, Big Bird... The Teletubbies... Mister Rogers... ?

Albatross comments on Toilet Etiquette in Colombia A bear and a rabbit were taking a dump in the woods. The bear asked "Do you have trouble with crap sticking to your fur ?" The rabbit said "No, not at all" So the bear wiped his ass with the rabbit.
Albatross comments on Toilet Etiquette in Colombia 2 & 3 are just plain gross... period. Also, since we're on the subject, If Colombia EVER expects to be taken seriously, they better start putting T.P. in the bathrooms... at least in the major places. I'll never forget my first time in Medellin... when I couldn't find a stich in the whole place. I kept thinking "This is a goddamn International Airport in a major Colombian city ???" Of course, they're all smarter than us stupid Gringos.

Albatross comments on Career Opportunities I've just begun looking for Engineering (Mechanical) positions... so luck so far. Anyone know of a decent search engine or website for ex-pat jobs in Colombia ?

Albatross comments on Ask not what Colombia can do for you - ask what you can do for Colombia Are you actually comparing an Internet site to the love of one's country ?

Albatross comments on ISN'T IT ABOUT TIME, TO OPEN THE FORUM UP TO NEW MEMBERS? As my college advisor would say when I proposed a radical redesign: "Evolution, not Revolution". (I still prefer Revolution)

Albatross comments on k1 or k3 visa? please help. I'm sure I already know the answer, but is there anyway to chose your own date for an interview ? It will be difficult both for her and I to get time off of work (and for me to buy a last-minute airline ticket) if the Embassy notifies her of the interview date a week or two before the actual interview.

Albatross comments on Another one bites the dust.... "otherwise the US would be filled with polygamists"... I guess you've never heard of Utah... or Texas.
