ahda007 comments on Teaching in Bogota. That doesnt sound too bad Serious_JO. I know the money is nothing compare to TESL in many of the other countries, but the comparison of the living standard seems to be similar ( if your scale of ableling yourself to rent, eat, go out every weekend and a little of savings here and there). Seems like a normal living :).

ahda007 comments on Can some Native English teacher in Medellin share their experiences to the rest of us? I am actually planning to live in Colombia for life, if is somewhat the kind the living could enjoy. I do know spanish, since I was born in Panama and raised there till I was 8. However, I know my grammar is poor, but I know wont take long before I can be fluent (my accent to spanish is fair). I do hold a TESL diploma and have taught more or less 30 lessons ( I don't know if you consider that experienced). The dollar value on the salary don't mean much to me in comparison to what living accomodations I can do with my salary. By saying I meant: $1500 us/per month might be good in colombia but wont be sufficient in Canada. I am hoping to get an amount of pay in $ that can provide for a rent of a single room appartment, essential grocceries and some allowances ( I consider myself frugal ). Would $1000 or $1500 or $500 provide me that?

ahda007 comments on How does a divorce granted by a foreign court effect a wedding that took place in Colombia. ? Hi esteban. I have a few questions questions i need to ask you for your proffesional advices as to how to get a proper divorced paper now that I am in Canada and she is in Colombia. Firstly, I will like to let you know that I am Canadain and not American. Does that same laws apply? Secondly, I have cancelled the sponsorship and sent my consent for the divorce to take place by getting a stamp from the embasy of colombia in canada to my ex-wife in colombia as she requested to then get a legal divorce paper from the same notary that we married in Medellin. Does that sound like the right way to do it? Thirdly, what lost can I possible from the draq getting a divorce paper? we verbally and mentally divorced a year ago but the papers have never been done, and everytime I rushed for the papers, she always had some other legal papers to require from me to make in Canada to send to her. Any advice will truly be appreaciated.

ahda007 comments on Asians in Colombia? Hey Bogobobo, don't worry so much. I am chinese/panama (asian appearance) and I have traveled and married a colombiana. I had some experiences there with people starring in all sort of ways, but never have I been attacked or verbally assualted. I guess it helps to have a Colombian wife and/or my inlaws to be around for most of my time in Colombia. I never had one bad experience in Medellin during my 2 visits in 2 different year.

|
ahda007 comments on I would like to you your detail too. I can share my divorce experience as well. Probably felt similar to your experince as my marriage felt somewhat like a stalemate for 2 years... and maybe even ongoing... We still love each other ( I guess ). Alexis

ahda007 comments on i want to know Medellin Hi all I visited Medellin 2 times in my life. First time was to get married. The Second time is for divorced. I have done things in between those time in Medellin, but I have also regret that I haven't exactly satified with exploring its culture and places. Often I remmember bits and pieces of happy moments and fun places I have ventured while I was there with my ex-wife (which we both still love each other till this day). I still hope I will have my 3rd chance to be there. One of my most memorable memories was wacthing a futbol game of "national athletico contra Medellin" (rojo contra verde). The atmosphere, the people, the chant, the noise, was something that I never seen or felt in any other part of the world. sigh.... its all just memories now....

ahda007 comments on AnYoNE know the area of Caicedo Carrera 13 area is located in Medellin Colombia board: you sure you know what area i am referring too? I ve tried using the Yahoo navigation and typed the address I had, but somehow it seems to be too far to the Centro from what I remmembered. Just so that I dont confuse you here is some additional info - I lived there 2 years ago for 2 month. - At that 2 month I did not spend time on getting to know the area - I recall it being 10 minutes cab ride ot 30 minute walk to the center I hope you are talking about the same area Colombiaboard. If you are, do you know a good area to buy a condo that is closest to the area of the address above?

ahda007 comments on Teaching in Medellin Colombia hey wjp0180. I've tried to write you an email with the one you post on above, but it said to be an invalid email address. Perhaps, is a "typo error"?!
|
|
Hey wjp0180 (from PBH): I have tried sending you the message below thru the email address you post on for me to reach you, but it did not seem to work. So I guess I would just leave you the message here. My name is Alexis ( ahda007 ) from poorbuthappy.com. Thanks for all those usefull information. I am liquidating my business here in Canada so that I can live my dream to work in Medellin. Please dont get the impression that I am doing only for love. However, it is a long story as to why I came to conclusion that I want to try everything in my power to live there. I would tell you, but for now I would asume that that might not be in your interest. It has been a long struggle for me to find people that may help me out and I hope that it won't make you feel like a bother. I would really like to know how you did it there. Did you get your job placement before you flew there? Did El Colombo Americano help you get your visa? I am pretty sure you probably have much more credential education or experience than me, as a matter of fact, I've never expect the salary that you have said to expect. Would you think that I would have a good chance of getting a job with El Colombo Americano? Aside from the job, how is your social life there. Are you a spanish speaker as well? Having a great time? I am in a rush for work now... hope to hear from you or catch me on msn with this same email address. Just simply add me up if youdo use MSN. And yeah, if you are open to meet new friends, please leave your phone number so that I can call you with my calling card (a lot cheaper ). Alexis

ahda007 comments on Defenition of "Gringo"? haha, I guess i might have been too spoiled living in toronto where there is alot of oritental communities. But I dont see any complications of me adopting to any society. However, has anyone life in medellin. And if so, had any of you found much of asian community near centro? Here in Toronto where I live, walking down to downtown in 15 minutes, I would at least see 20 orientals. Is that the case in Medellin downtown?

ahda007 comments on Teaching in Medellin Colombia I would say I am a hard working person which would not mind working lets say 8 to 10 hours a day. But I would need some guidance at first, since I am not an experience teacher. I am just hoping that the standards in Colombia University/School/Instistute, are some what considerate and welcome newly graduates from TESOL, and are willing to allow us to adapt. Philly, are you in Medellin now? maybe we can chat some day.... ill add you to my friend list
