adela comments on Hola Cucuta ??!! I don't live in Cucuta, but stayed there some years ago. Cucuta is hot, but not that much this time. I bet could be better booking in a good hotel. I dont find so many but one: http://www.hotelcasinointernacional.com/ Try to see any Estelar S.A chain of hotels. Even dirty and small, my advice : "Just enjoy Cucuta, Bob! what else could you do? Could be better than you imagine. Try informal wear and some formal.

adela comments on Salmon Phenomenon:Increasing Numbers of Latinos Returning To Homelands To Retire Well, If I would be on a retired age, I surely look for my county to live in. The ideal to me is to live in Colombia and travel a lot. I got the first thing...not the second I wish to. Hey, Miamimike, are you sure Italians are better lovers than latinos? Perhaps, but I heard Italians are also not that loyals...;)

adela comments on Freedom of Expresion in Colombia and at PBH Interesting point, Webmanco. Colombians are been abused by the privated media ant their owners. RCN, Caracol, El Tiempo and other canals of information are just sending the info according to president mind every day. For example: why they just covered the info of 4 th Feb march against FARC and did not do the same at all about the 6th March march against paramilitar march? I try to read and attend all the points of view, but often I see most media are showing partial information. We hope here at PBH have democracy.

adela comments on i just bought these COLOMBIAN books in "El Centro" for 15k.has anyone read them?Elmo? It was part of your skills in US working closely with that kind of women as you do in Cali since I received you two years ago? Are you doing exactly the same as some of your gringo clients do in Cali picking all this women at 6th! Poor Cali, poor but not happy Colombia because we have every time often foreigners like you that also tryied to sell my husband a refurbish laptop as a new one! How you dare!

adela comments on Spanish for your Nanny I know sound funny dear Mr Hollywood but...I didn't expect that XXX words that my husband and daughter listened.

adela comments on a few books that should be read Right: there are a lot things to know about Colombia even for Colombians travelers and great readers. Elmo would use some words in Costa region that I don't know what is that (I'm not talking about his burra or his pretty girls ha). Do you ever read "La bruja" from German Castro Caicedo (translation: something like "The witch"); The book of Antonio Caballero that contain a lot of his posts in Semana. Excellent. Yes, of course that Alfredo Molano could write. Dont forget the optimistic writers!

adela comments on PLEASE HELP!!! Dear Jessi, I've read about this subject many times. This behaviour is every day most common in the work, not only in Colombia. I know a close friend from my childhood that confess me that he spend aboyt 60% of his salary in games and adult places. Efectivelly he is loyal, phisically to her partner and he said "I'll die if she left me". So what's going on? As my friend, I think your boyfriend has become a sexaddict. He should ask for therapy, specially focus in sex addictions.

adela comments on Eso or Ese Different uses for "eso" and "esto" - "Qué es ésto! " or "Qué es eso! ": What is that? or What's going on here? Sometimes I said any of this sentences when I found that my daughter have a mess on her room. It's also for a good and unexpectable situation or thing. Ex: while somone sorprise you with a dinner or a gift or anything good, or anything extrange also. -In general if you dont know if the subject is masculine or femenine, I would recommend "eso" for an object or animal: "Viste eso? Creo que es un pajaro" (did you see that one, I think is a bird" -"Ese" for anything about a man "ese caleño baila salsa".

adela comments on Learning Spanish in Cali Hi Englishhunk. Here at PBH we have some guides about studying Spanish in different places. I created a list of some good choises here, but, if you really wish to have contact with people really talking more than street Spanish, the USC could be the first one on the list: 1. Universidad Santiago de Cali- USC- is the fist possibility. Here is the link(the info is in Spanish): http://virtual.usc.edu.co/espaextranjeros/index.php?option=com_contact&Itemid=3 This is a format to fill and it goes directly with the director of the program. Well, hopefully. 2.Universidad Javeriana Cali- http://www.puj.edu.co/english_home/8955.htm METHODOLOGY The Functional Spanish for Foreigners Program works towards proficiency in the language skills within a cultural and linguistic Colombian framework. The program emphasizes day to day situations through exercises and activities which use the language as a functional method of communication. These situations meet the course´s objective, which is the development of personal expression so vital to interaction with people in the hispanic world. STANDARD PROGRAM Levels offered 3 (two stages each) Length 64 hours per level 2 months per stage Intensity 2 hours daily 8 hours weekly Tuesday to Friday Beginning Dates The first Tuesday of every month Requirements - Placement test or previous level certification - Student visa - Health insurance - Photocopy of health insurance guide OUTINGS The program offers guided outings. These outings provide direct contact with the culture, help students to learn the languages, and create new experiences for them. Optional trips to other parts of the country are also offered. FREE TIME Students can enjoy artistic shows, special events, art exhibits, and a video club. They may also register in all the workshops which are offered in the Cultural Sector of the Javeriana University. Among these are painting, ceramics, silver and gold work, batik, glass, and plasticine. There is also a gym for students and aerobic classes are directed by experienced instructors. All workshops and activities are available at no additional cost. Students staying six or more months are invited to join any of the university sports teams, the university choir and/or the various theatre, dance and music groups. UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE CREDITS Students can take courses or seminars from the academic majors offered by the University. To take these courses students need previous acceptance from the Language Department and from the directors of the different majors. These are official courses. Most of them are valid for 3 (three) university credits. AIRPORT PICK - UP IN CALI Javeriana University offers airport pick - up at the Alfonso Bonilla Aragón airport. Hours of pick -up are from 8 AM to 5 PM daily. A one week advance notice of complete flight itinerary is required in order to meet your flight. CERTIFICATE OF ATTENDANCE At the end of each course the University will give each participant an E.F.E. diploma specifying the hours taken FURTHER INFORMATION AND ENROLMENT MarÃa Consuelo MartÃnez mmartine at puj.edu.co Language Department Pontificia Universidad Javeriana Calle 18 # 118 - 250, Avenida Cañasgordas 3rd. adela comments on What does it cost to study at a Colombian university? Well, I'm not sure about the range of prices you, guys, are talking to. We all know public universities, or colleges have lower rates per semester than anyone. Also, the quality is used to be better than the private ones. However great public universities set the rates of payment based in two important things, remarkable the first one: -how much the kid/parents payed monthly on the previous school during the last course(11o. grade) -what is the stata of the neighborhood the kid lives. Also, the price depends of what undergraduate program you choose. Medicine, Ingeniery, Dentistry, etc are expensives than mathematics or philosophy. In Cali, a semester in Medicin could cost between 80,000 COP(40USD) and 4'500,000 COP (USD2000) for two classmates in same class, same university, same program. The private universities have the same price for everyone in the program depending of number of credits.

adela comments on “Until Death Do Us Part: My Struggle to Reclaim Colombia~~Ingrid Betancourt Exactly, Desi. Ingrid was aware of the danger BUT she wanted to show how important for her political movement was one single, poor, lost, region in Colombia. She counted with military scourt, yes, that Pastrana's goverment promised to every candidate. She was also participating into peace conversations between goverment-guerrilla, so she possibly tought she was not that profile to be kidnapped. She pretended to take the elicopter but Pastrana avoid it. That is what she said on the first video.

adela comments on Looking to Volunteer in Bogota Some places Hi Meghan. I have a list of reputable foundations in Colombia that are having social work with children in Bogota. I specially touched by Fundacion Ninos de los Andes and also, Hogares Juveniles Campesinos. If you need any translation Spanish-English, email me, I’ll do my best: a_dentro at yahoo.com.mx . Oh, I forgot to say something important: in Colombia is hard to get a response soon by email. Try by phone if is urgent or repeat your message constantly.
