Adanimal comments on What type of question is this? How generalized and ignorant. Moral Standards are like asses in that everyone has one and they all are different.

Adanimal comments on R.I.P. Brava New Flash! All Colombian beer is crappy. From what I've tasted Colombian beer tastes like mineral water for the most part. Tastes like nothing!! Even Coors light has more flavor! Why do you think they don't import it in the states or Europe (as far as I've seen). Not terrible mind you. Just no taste. And no I don't smoke so I still have my taste buds. Or as my Colombian friends tell me... 'Here in Colombia we like things to taste suave" Maybe my Spanish is bad but I thought Suave meant smooth. I think in Colombia Suave means "sin sabor". Colon is the only one that tastes like anything and It's way over priced for Colombia. Exito sells Negra Modelo though. That's kinda cool.

Adanimal comments on "Americanos all look a like" It's funny...I joined this sight a long time ago before I was coming to Colombia the first time (different name ..lost the password info) got a little info then split. I'm coming again and got some info and brought up some thoughts. (this and the Gringo offensive one) and man, these 2 threads really kicked off! I've really gotten an idea of how the community works. It's nice to feel part of something even if your a spectator. I'm sure there are twice (maybe more?) as many readers as writers. From what I've read some of the writers seem to be real celebrities here (or want to be anyway). I see now that verbal sparring is the name of the game. Kind of reminds me of the brown cafes in the Netherlands where they drink (mostly beer) and try to trump one another by commanding the conversation. Interesting. I don't know if I will write enough to be "accepted" but thanks for the education. It's nice to know people still like using there brains by interacting with one another, other then sitting passively infront of the computer or tv. Cuidate

Adanimal comments on "Americanos all look a like" Gabolicious...Maybe I will ask the woman when I see her. I'll post her response here. I'd be curious to hear the response as well...

Adanimal comments on "Americanos all look a like" I was too dumbfounded to say anything really after it was said I just went silent. Unexpected. Really I was kinda disappointed I thought I made an impression...Good, Bad...at least something. Oh well.
Adanimal comments on "Americanos all look a like" I in general I could see why people would assume that of americans.

Adanimal comments on The word Gringo...is it offensive or not? So what about the the countries Niger and Nigeria in Africa? Does that make another certain word ok to use? Hmm I think not. The word has changed into something else. The origin is one thing. What it means to the individual or their people is another.

Adanimal comments on Leticia Colombia- how come ignored here? Ha ha bartolo..."Oh and malaria" funny. You'd think getting a bite would be a little less worse the malaria..like it's and afterthought....cheers!
Adanimal comments on Leticia Colombia- how come ignored here? Yeah I'm told Alaska is insane! I saw a National Geo photo where the guy took his socks off outside in the summer and in 1 minute his feet were covered with big mosquitoes. Although I went into a flooded part of the Amazon Jungle in a Canoe and the mosquitoes were pretty big. They were yellowish and could bite me right though my shirt. My back was covered with bites. It's pretty surreal! Leticia is nothing compared to that.
Adanimal comments on Leticia Colombia- how come ignored here? Lisa, The mosquitoes aren't as bad as you'd imagine. It is really humid though. It's the real jungle that's for sure. It's green like you've never seen!

Adanimal comments on Leticia Colombia- how come ignored here? maybe you should have articulated your point better as should I You never stated Santa Rosa either. I love peru. It just seemed more "gritty" I don't know. Maybe I used the wrong adjective but I didn't know what city you were talking about you never specified. Also you were mind reading about the "help" outsiders felt they needed to give. Life seemed simple and reasonable from my perspective. I never felt sorry for them. I took advantage of the tri border. Drink in Peru "the cheapest of the 3 towns" Party in Tabitinga. The best place to disco. Slept in Leticia. Quieter and more secure. Plus it was a nice place to wake up in that sleepy downtown and get fresh baked pastries every morning. The locals in Letica started to know who I was and they were all super friendly. I felt like Letica was my home base. It's a great place. Yes I agree. I don't want the tourists to find out about it and ruin it. That would be a shame.

Adanimal comments on Leticia Colombia- how come ignored here? ahhh..did you read the "poor" comment. I didn't say that about Letica. I swear people skim over these posts sometimes. I was referring to the Island in the Amazon. Santa Rosa Peru. Not Letica. I never felt Letica was poor. Geeze. Read more carefully next time.

Adanimal comments on Kinda funny about the photo issue jay but I found this to be the case anywhere in Latin America. I got a few of these type of pictures but you have to be slick about it. I got a machine gun pointed at me in Cusco Peru for taking a picture of a pro hoja de coca rally. It's better to just not take these pictures and piss people off. You'll cause problems for yourself. In Iquitos Peru they have an Amazing tile building but it is an intelligence HQ. I was told if you took a picture of it you could be brought in for questioning. I also read somewhere up until about 10 years ago in Paraguay that if you took a picture of a soldier or certain government buildings that you could be shot on site. Also think about it. It's not good for tourism is it? Furthermore they could think your casing them. What's ironic is the title of this post is Freedom. Yeah as long as you don't take pictures of police or military. Adanimal comments on I think Bogata is under apreciated. Flying into it the first time I thought it looked like Austria..really beautifully situated. Wasn't what I expected from what I read and was told. Look at that vista behind those two chicas. Amazing!

Adanimal comments on Leticia Colombia- how come ignored here? .I saw some amazing Haciendas...It is really safe.

Adanimal comments on hey u guys...i been here quite a long time now (COLOMBIA) but i still dont get used it..do any of u feel the same way? Dude I don't work for internet babes. I have real life. Just being honest and lucid. I have no Plans to go to Cali or New York.

Adanimal comments on hey u guys...i been here quite a long time now (COLOMBIA) but i still dont get used it..do any of u feel the same way? Puddin, I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm American but I'm envious that you have family and opportunity to stay in Colombia and I don't . I would love to have that. When I see something that I would appreciate and you don't it just makes me kinda sad that you don't see it from my perspective I guess. You can pick between the two Countries I can't. I don't have any special talents or extra money so that I could stay in Colombia. So I guess what I'm saying is that if anyone wants to offer a poor talentless Americano a gig to stay in Colombia. Send me a message! I'd work hard to be able to live down there I don't think I'd miss the States honestly.:)

Adanimal comments on hey u guys...i been here quite a long time now (COLOMBIA) but i still dont get used it..do any of u feel the same way? I've never talked to any man who was in a hurry to leave Colombia. I panicked last time when I realized I was actually getting on the plane back for this hum-drum life. Ever since I made my plans to come back I've got that spring back in my step. I feel like electricity is in my veins when I'm in Colombia. What a great place! I went to Mexico 3 weeks later and Colombia ruined it for me. I was always comparing and as I said in other posts the only thing I liked better in Mexico was the food. Not saying the food is bad in Colombia but there are more Mexican restaurants for a reason. I was dueling with myself trying to rationalize how long I could stretch my plans this next trip. This post is upsetting to me:(

Adanimal comments on another problem with my trip..what's new? Santa Marta is booked! Totally it's fine to stay. I have a friend in Tagaga too. I'm kinda partial to the old city for some reason. But with this lodging situation I'll take what I can get.
Adanimal comments on another problem with my trip..what's new? Santa Marta is booked! Thanks Gator...I'll do the research..I'm curious about the Guajiara Peninsular. Minca sounds like a sleepy little place. I'm totally ignorant to Cienaga. I don't know anything about it..How do you get to these places and what am I looking at in terms of cost from Santa Marta? I wonder what New Years Eve will be like in these places. The locals from S.M. told me not to peak my head inside Venezuela they told me it's Dangerous at the boarder. Any thoughts on this? I've never been to that country. I didn't check the visa requirements. Is it an issue for yankees?....Last time I was in Taganga it was like little Israel. They had some signs in Hebrew and the Israeli military women with the shaved heads. Curious place but I agree, I can't imagine making a whole 9 days out of that place. I was even spoken to in Hebrew more then once. I guess I kinda look Israeli or something.

Adanimal comments on Medellin Sports Bar looks like Santanas going to Boston. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news;_ylt=AjhxaYh38Wdm2StVUc0efWYRvLYF?slug=bostonstandsaloneinsanta&prov=tsn&type=lgns Aren't all the Colombianos Detroit fans now because of Edger Renteria getting traded there?

Adanimal comments on another problem with my trip..what's new? Santa Marta is booked! The place I'm staying when I come in is already 3 times the price that I paid in June and July. I didn't think about the high season I guess.

Adanimal comments on another problem with my trip..what's new? Santa Marta is booked! Are there any little towns outside of Santa Marta that may have a hotel? Maybe I can make lemons into lemonade and find a quiet little place.

Adanimal comments on another problem with my trip..what's new? Santa Marta is booked! Actually Gator I was Speaking about Santa Marta Proper. Rodadero is a little too slick for me but I'd take a room anywhere in the area at this point. I hope I don't have to go back to Barranquilla to sleep for a week! Thanks for the depressing thoughts...ugh...What do you think of Taganga? I'd even consider there? I"m only one person.

Adanimal comments on Dwmte7 Wow. What a crazy interesting story!...I'm impressed I love a good story. Kudos!

Adanimal comments on Visa stamp question (90 day stamp) Yeah..I just know I'm not going to be over 90 days. I just don't want to deal with the hassel of a new stamp if I don't have too. Just easier is all..thanks though.

Adanimal comments on Getting organized before I get out of here (gym and book question) Yeah I like the idea of running. It's beautiful there...but as you stated..the cars and buses..yikes! Also if you didn't notice..ITS CRAZY HOT IN SANTA MARTA!!! I would be insane to run in that. I"m a northern midwesterner and I can't run the summers here even. I make it a mile and I'm toast in the heat and humidity. I guess if I got up before dawn....Maybe. I'm not that commited though. I'm not one of those Kenyan guys who always wins marathons. Those dudes amaze me. I saw footage of them training in the Sarangetti. Why does everyone else even bother running when those guys always win?

Adanimal comments on Did everyone forget about Vegas? You can drink in the street 24 -7. Too bad I hate Vegas.

Adanimal comments on Getting organized before I get out of here (gym and book question) Thanks SG..That's in the old city right, or is it Rodadero? Also do you know the cost per month per chance, or have a guess anyway? Actually I don't train HEAVY everyday. I have light, medium and heavy days of lifting and always mix up the body parts.

Adanimal comments on A word of advice about Avianca domestic ticket prices Good info! I take many domestic flights. Thanks!

Adanimal comments on Getting organized before I get out of here (gym and book question) I'm so glad you guys are worried about my work out schedule. To be honest I jacked my left shoulder up a little so it's slowing me down a bit but I can't stop. Have you ever seen during the olympics? Those athletes train way longer than I do and I'd say they're ok. I'm a big boy I can handle it. Thanks for the concern though. Any word on that gym in Santa Marta let me know.

Adanimal comments on Getting organized before I get out of here (gym and book question) Read the recent FREEDOM!! post by Gringoinbogata. I love that dudes perspective. Kinda sums me up too!

Adanimal comments on Getting organized before I get out of here (gym and book question) I go to the gym for my body and mind. It keeps me balanced and lucid. I do weights for 60 minutes to 90 minutes and cardio for and hour to 90 minutes or so and sometimes I work on my martial arts a little. Unfortunately I have a slow metabolism and I like to eat but I don't like being fat. So really I have little option. I'm only 40% man the rest is animal:). I feel better when I'm not here. The Midwest is a sad boring place if you ask me. I like to tear though life but I was unfortunate enough to be born and raised here. My step brother has been staying with me and all that dude does is watch movies all the time. Of course he's out of shape (and he's only 19!). What's sad is that he is more the rule than the exception out here:( I'd rather experience life that watch it though a TV screen. When I see his big DVD collection it just makes me sad to think of all the time spent sitting in front of the boob-tube. How many times can you watch the same movie anyway? I understand music but Movies? Silly. Thanks for the book ideas SG I hope Amazon can deliver before I leave! I hope I answered your question as well.
Adanimal comments on Yeah it's so regulated here in the States. Try to explain this life to someone whose never been in Latin America and the are either Scared or they just can't comprehend it.

Adanimal comments on How safe are valuables in budget hotels? I'd use the laptop because I'm a writer....that's why..I'd just be pissed if I lost things on it. I also know they place where I would be staying my buddy brought his laptop and nothing happend. We tipped the maid very well everyday (it helped that she was good looking too!). I don't know if the same people will be doing the maid service though.

Adanimal comments on The word Gringo...is it offensive or not? Colombiche, So your saying that I don't care when other people get called derogatory names? You don't know me. I don't like anyone getting called names. Yeah it's more personal when it's me but I don't like it all the way around. Thanks though for kind of agreeing that it's not right to refer to me as gringo.
Adanimal comments on The word Gringo...is it offensive or not? I don't agree that mssaucy is correct. Gringo is not a "nickname" to me. You cannot convince me otherwise. The people that use it without knowing the origin are just ignorant. Yeah I agree so be it. Those who do know the origin should no better and I will never refer to myself as a gringo and perpetuate ignorance. So should I be able to call people SPIC, Camel Jockey, Chink and they should get over it because they are in my country. I disagree. I know better. Sorry..You can't convince me otherwise. Respect my position where I'm coming from even if you don't think it's valid. That's enough for me. I just don't like being discounted.
Adanimal comments on The word Gringo...is it offensive or not? Right on ...at least Morphus gets where I'm coming from....Geeze...You know what I tell my friends in Colombia? We are all Americans..South, Central, North ..doesn't matter. We are all from the new world and brothers. Why do all the haters try to separate us? That old world mentality has to go. I judge a person by their actions not where they came from...it's ignorant to have these stupid labels to ostracize one another..Who wins that way? Sorry everyone..Diana boiled my blood a little. Telling me to get over it, discounting me like a child.
Adanimal comments on The word Gringo...is it offensive or not? Diana It's funny how everyone else is allowed to be offended unless your a White American Man..your just supposed to deal with it. If it meant anything else other than "we don't want you here" I wouldn't care. As I stated it only means this in MEXICO! I have heard Mexicans use it as nothing but I have also heard them use it in a derogatory way and I don't like it. In other Latin Countries I never felt it was used negatively. I travel a lot and try to respect everyone else's customs and taboos. Why can't I get the same respect? If you read my post it clearly states why I get offended in Mexico but not South America. It's obnoxious to discount other peoples perspectives especially if they feel that they are valid.
Adanimal comments on The word Gringo...is it offensive or not? Diana.(Mononoke28) Did you even read the post? I said I was not offended in south America.. Only in Mexico!
Adanimal comments on The word Gringo...is it offensive or not? Only hear Guero in Mexico that's for sure. Did you ever notice Lonely planet has one phrase book for Latin America and another only for Mexico. Man the Spanish is waaaaay different in Mexico. Although the South Americans love learning the Mexican slang I taught them. Really Mexican Spanish is just barely Spanish anymore. It seems like 50% of it is Slang or made up words. Especially in the North.

Adanimal comments on Any ideas on how to get from BAQ to Santa Marta? Hey I contacted Invertours and they told me 120K! for pick up at BAQ and delivery to Santa Marta. That seems really high. Or am I wrong. I know it's between 90 and 120 minutes. Here in Chicago I paid 60 bucks for a half hour ride so I guess that's cheaper than here but I really expected much less. In Guacharacas post he said 35K. Something doesn't add up. Discuss......
