acpm69 comments on Colombian changing her name after the wedding... how to do it? Oh by the way Silvia, if you decide to change your Colombian last name, it is FOREVER, according to Colombian laws you can change your name just once in your lifetime... There is no problem whatsoever to get in and out of the US if your passport and green card have different last names, they just check that the photos are the same. I don't know what kind of documentation you had before your marriage, I changed from a tourist visa to a permanent resident status, didn't need any additional documentation to change my last name, just filled up all the applications with my new last name, no deed or anything else was needed.

acpm69 comments on Colombian changing her name after the wedding... how to do it? Hey Silvia, What did you finally do? All my American documents have my new last name but my passport still has my maiden name. I was planning on waiting the 3 years to get my American citizenship because it sounds like a pain in the a** to change my Colombian passport. However, I was curious to know if you did the stamp thing and if it is valid to travel... I would like to have everything set up with my new last name to take advantage of my frequent flier miles. Let me know... would ya?

acpm69 comments on Girlfriend denied visa and was told she can not get any other type of visa! oh, BTW, I did lie when applying for my tourist Visa!!! I said I was going to visit my "aunt" even though I didn't have any relatives here and they granted me the visa!!!

acpm69 comments on Girlfriend denied visa and was told she can not get any other type of visa! It is better not to say you have guy friends in the US because they'll automatically assume that she wants to marry you. As a matter of fact, when I came to the US to meet my husband, even though I already had my visa, everyone advised me not to say I was coming into the country to meet my single friend, because they would not let me enter the country!!! It will be better if you ask for a fiancee visa now, you have 3 months or so to make up your mind.

acpm69 comments on Religious Marriage Ceremony in Colombia 1. As Tom says, be sure you're Catholic. 2. If you both are, get your baptismal certificates, they must say "HE/SHE HAS NOT BEEN MARRIED BEFORE" this is called "marginal note" (notas marginales) 3. Find the Church you want to marry at in Colombia and make sure there's an English speaking priest (if you don't speak Spanish), that also will help so you won't have to translate the baptismal certificates. (I have a bunch of priests/nuns friends if you don't know anyone) 4. Go to your local US church and get the pre-marital preparation. Here in the US they'll call it a CONVALIDATION, not a wedding since you already have the Civil wedding done. Your local priest will send a note to the Church down in Colombia saying you have that you're ready to get married. 5. Find out where you want to make the reception, those places usually have wedding planners. 6. Your friends can be the Godparents, as long as they are Catholic too. In Colombia it is usually done by a couple friends of the Bride & Groom. 7. You'll find any kind of cheap plans to San Andres, it is awesome, if you're going out from the US Copa Airlines will be your contact, if you need it from Bucaramanga, I usually use a travel agency called OTUR they're pretty good but not the only ones. This is my travel agent contact info "JIMMI JAVIER SALCEDO BARRIENTOS" jimmi-salcedo at h**tmail Good luck!

acpm69 comments on 10 impressions of my trip to Medellin Hi Harley, I'm glad you had a great time in Medellin and have nice things to say. Just a thought... most of us Colombians, just hang out in the nice areas, there's no need to go where the "guisos" (lowlife) go to try to be authentic!!! My paisas friends who have lived there for 30 years spend most of the time in the Poblado/Envigado area. I just went to Medellin for the first time this Christmas and loved it!!! Took the TURIBUS and gave us a nice tour around the city! Definitely a MUST SEE city!!!
