ACBlessing comments on How Common is WIFI in Bogota There's ten Internet cafes on every block....no need to drag around a laptop

ACBlessing comments on debit cards Perhaps its time to look into Banco de Bogota then, not sure about the details though. I never got charged ATM fees at the Citibank in Zona T even though my account is was based in the US
ACBlessing comments on debit cards I've used my Bank of America card many times in the past and always got ripped off with ATM fees and transaction surcharges. Even when the ATM was out of money, I'd get charged $5 just for trying. Also, not all ATMs give out the same maximum of money. That's why I use Citibank now...it's in the U.S. and Colombia and I can get a million pesos for the weekend when needed. I was also considering Banco De Bogota as well because they have an office in Miami to open an account but I don't know enough about it to advise. I think economic sense comes down to how long you plan to stay in Colombia. If it's just for the weekend or a month, ATM fees and/or currency exchange fees won't amount to much but if you plan to live in Colombia for awhile, best use a bank with a presence in Colombia.

ACBlessing comments on ANY MAKEUP COMPANIES IN CALI COLOMBIA?? Just a tip but you might want to hit your caps lock key again before posting. Looks like you're yelling.

ACBlessing comments on Colombian military in Egypt? I met a few Colombians when I was in Iraq and Kuwait in the military then later for KBR. You can't go anywhere in the world an not bump into one of them. At least they're cool.

ACBlessing comments on Bogota this weekend ? Damn! I didn't know Citibank gives you $800,000 at a time! Thanks Bickerss. Is that just with a Citibank card or do you know if my BofA will work for that much?

ACBlessing comments on Hotel & Saturday nightlife in Bogota WTF? Let me get this straight...you're arriving Saturday night and you think you're going to get a hotel room, on a weekend...with no notice, for $45?? Good luck dude... Funny thing is, some friends of mine (whom I had already made reservations for) are showing up at St. Simon tomorrow night (Friday) so when you get to town, look me up by my last name you see at the bottom here and you can join us.

ACBlessing comments on Translation in English for this slang Ahhhhhhhhhh Hunjb just confessed to his knowledge of 80s music!

ACBlessing comments on Bogota this weekend www.xe.com is good also. I just wouldn't come down here with a bunch of cash...it's not safe on the street or in the hotel. A debit card makes the most sense because the banks handle the exchange rate automatically...it gets locked in on Friday until Monday. You get what you need (really just enough for taxis) and use the card for paying everything else. If you end up with too much Colombian cash you didn't use and have to exchange it back, then you're going to pay a second time no matter the exchange rate. I'd just take out $500,000 pesos and that lasts me more than a week, much less a single weekend that CDY is going to be here. Tell you what CDY, for 500K pesos, I'll pick you up at the airport myself and be your guide. ;-)

ACBlessing comments on just back from bogota! What's love got to do with it? All I can say is Cali Vea servicio domicilio and a fridge full of Bravas...you only need to wait 30 minutes instead of six months and you can have as many Bravas as you want as opposed to spouses.
ACBlessing comments on Bogota this weekend Don't exchange your money Save if for your flight back. Go to the taxi counter like suggested and get the paper....if you look directly to your left, you'll see a Davivienda ATM booth with lockable glass door. This is good because first, you don't have to go back into the airport to the second floor and all that. Second... Davivienda lets you take out $500,000 pesos at a time unlike the other ATMs. Since you'll be paying $5 per ATM withdrawl, get as much as you can per ATM visit.

ACBlessing comments on Which is the Best airline Avianca Or Copa ? Don't forget TACA... brand new Airbus A320s and the headphones are nice, not the crappy clip-on earmuffs that the other airlines charge $5 for. Seriously though...was very impressed.

ACBlessing comments on Fire North of Bogota Oops Sorry guys.... after a few Bravas, I couldn't tell East from West... just meant I saw that plume to and since Salitre is so far away, I saw the plume extend across town.... hey, is there servicio domicilio this late? I'm out of Bravas

ACBlessing comments on Importation Tax on Personal Effects I thought it was DIAN Unless your bringing in a bag of diamonds, don't declare anything on the form they give you on the airplane. Besides, for what is costs for extra baggage or to ship a container here, you're better off just buying new stuff here instead of hauling your old stuff all the way down.

ACBlessing comments on Looks like I missed the party today, but want to also resoundingly...re-iterate: I can't believe they told me to jump... I'm offended now. Thank you though.

ACBlessing comments on US / Colombia PreNup Saw that.... I went from Bellevue, to Spokane and back to FL. Still loved Seattle but after grad school in Renton, work in downtown Seattle then the drive to Bellevue, I just got pretty much burned out. Liked Spokane but too far from COL. ;-)

ACBlessing comments on US / Colombia PreNup You're right I changed it today to Florida because I left WA a while back and forgot to change my profile here. Actually, I left Florida last year for Colombia and haven't left yet. I guess I'll wait for the DAS to kick me out before I'll claim FL... good eyes though

ACBlessing comments on Setting the record straight about DonGringo and Gringoinbogota Gringoinbogota is in a Colombian prison somewhere in the Amazon near Leticia. DonGringo is short, fat old, smokes cigars, wears a nice pinstipe, zoot suit and always walks around with a group of Colombian models hanging on to his arms.

ACBlessing comments on Craig's List now serves Colombia :) Yeah, but can they cook?
ACBlessing comments on Craig's List now serves Colombia MIA If I can just find a used Colombian wife, fat and dumpy but cooks really well, for free, I'd be happy.
ACBlessing comments on Craig's List now serves Colombia Craigslist, Colombia I know. I just meant for whatever it's worth. I haven't used because much for Colombia because it's been so sparce. Who knows, maybe it'll catch on as a free dating site here instead of Match.com. Better yet if it were also in Spanish. Can't beat the price though. P.s. I love the "Free" category too! I haven't new bought clothes in two years. (j/k)

ACBlessing comments on DonG, Pod Podborski, welcome to Colombia.
ACBlessing comments on Craig's List now serves Colombia I hear you I know what you mean... I guess it would take a lot of word-of-mouth but at least it's established. I was thinking of putting ads there for bringing things back from the US for a fee... Sony Playstation IIIs or Apple iPhone (when it comes available). Still, it's a great online classifieds site.

ACBlessing comments on DonGringo Alright man, sounds like a plan, BBC Andino tomorrow (Thur) night about 9-ish, same place we were sitting before...if there's room.

ACBlessing comments on Please help - anyone... Find a Colombian gal already in NY or Miami. Just kidding, yes, research Visajourney.com and search this site. There is no quick way but you can avoid it taking much, much longer by reading as much as possible about this before you file anything.

ACBlessing comments on US / Colombia PreNup Affidavit of support How does a prenup, either in Col or USA affect the affidavit of support you have to sign for the visa?
ACBlessing comments on Agree Caught this thread too late and I can't add anymore but to wholeheartedly agree. I am nice to everyone here almost to a fault and it has kept me safe and informed. By the way DonG, you up to hooking up at BBC-Andino again? ...feelin the beer urge for Thursday night again

ACBlessing comments on Fire North of Bogota Another view From my balcony here in Salitre I saw a huge fire in the mountain west of the city center. I called a friend in that area and she said it was a forest fire. Huge plume of smoke made it all the way across town. Today is finally nice though...kinda hazy and windy but sunny and warm at least.

ACBlessing comments on looking for room or apt. Tell me about it I didn`t want to leave that great apartment Lostgringo! Feels like I`m homeless now but it was great while it lasted. I especially liked just hanging out on the balcony and admiring the city landscape. Too bad that guy wants the whole place to himslef for a month. Demmit. ...and yes, I am currently in a hotel in the heart of the Zona Rosa... How`d you know??

ACBlessing comments on Accomodation Bogota September 1 week Dominic, what is your email? Dominic, I would like more info but I need your email or please write to mine. Thank you,

ACBlessing comments on San Andres Island?? Agreed I agree...this thread took a half-assed route. I also want to know if it is true about getting married in San Andres with only my passport and her with only her ID and a birth certificate. It just doesn't make sense when Colombian law dictates strict procedures for civil marriage.
ACBlessing comments on OAS blunder Wait! Whatever you do, write anything other than N/A. The assholes sent my whole stack of paperwork back after three months simply because I wrote "N/A" where it asked if she was divorced. She was never married.

ACBlessing comments on Attn Peter: WAY too much of this lately on PBH list and the list of topics on the left looks like one run-on vertical sentence...

ACBlessing comments on Anti-Spanish sentiments in Bogota I thought the same At first I was a little confused what town in NJ they were talking about because they pronounce it like "buh go da" The whole thing was stupid I agree but I don't think the government outlawed Spanish...McDonalds pulled it because of pressure.

ACBlessing comments on Need help in getting my original birth certificate from bogota, columbia Uh oh... Now you did it...here comes the ColOmbia crowd...with an "O" that is...

ACBlessing comments on Cingular roaming in Colombia Unlock You can buy an unlocked Treo 650 but not the 700 since that one is unlockable from Verizon. Perhaps the new Motorola Q is unclockable? Not sure.

ACBlessing comments on Advice on driving in Bogota - rental cars and insurance Insurance I used to rent a car from the airport in Bogota but everyone is right about the hassle. I had Allstate insurance, full coverage but by Colombian law or rental terms, my insurance would only cover 60% and no more. I could not even buy full coverage from them (Budget). They wanted my credit card, not just to pay but also to cover the remaining 40% out of pocket in case anything happened.

ACBlessing comments on Kevin Mitnick a hacker, Bogota may 17 Mitnik I actually heard him last night on Art Bell's Coast to Coast radio show interviewing Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and I couldn't believe it.

ACBlessing comments on Where are we? Please put your "pin" on the map Cool Well Gringo, just head up here and we'll start our own Colombian embassy...not too many hurricanes here. And Platano...I love BC, been there many times and took the helo to Vancouver

ACBlessing comments on Where are we? Please put your "pin" on the map Brrrrr Hey now.....I'm starting to feel pretty isolated up here.....anyone else in the NW?

ACBlessing comments on Best Way of Calling the US from Colombia? Mario I hear you about audio quality... I gotta confess that I have 6Mbps broadband and tweak the QOS in my router for VoIP giving it priority. Since I use Skype mainly to call a land line in Bogota, it has been working pretty good.
